  1. I go back a very long time & I’m not sure Humphries was ever charged with anything, though am fully aware of the rumour. I don’t think it can be seen as a one off here (even if it was, as was evidenced by Danny Simpson I’m extremely uncomfortable with it), Barton surrounds himself with these types & it doesn’t take Inspector Morse to work out why.
  2. Spot on. Good luck to him, I’d have loved to see him back but it wasn’t to be. Can’t understand the criticism, it’s a short career & he needs to do whatever is best for him. According to some on here he isn’t very good, anyway..
  3. Thought a few (Bajic is another) will be off because they are either at or have played in, internationals recently. King is certain to be there, he signed his contract extension last year on June 30th & I expect him to follow suit this year. Hopefully Benarous is fit enough now to be fully involved. Can’t see any point in Kalas being there if he’s signing for someone else this week, so agree, if he’s there then he’ll be sticking around.
  4. https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/ex-footballer-accused-calling-pc-neil-9600614.amp Small world, isn’t it? Was just looking up something about their Chief Scout Christopher Spendlove & the court case that saw him get off & Barton’s good mate Andrew Taylor sentenced to prison for the manslaughter of a policeman, and you’ll never guess who appears as a defence witness? Eddie Jennings.. Lovely people. Not a Merseyside crime syndicate, no, not at all..
  5. Being reported at the Bolton end that the delay is over the fee, nothing injury related, he’s passed his medical. They reckon it will still go through but not immediately.
  6. A chief scout who got off a charge of murdering a policeman, whereas his two fellow defendants, one of whom is Barton’s mate, got convicted. A manager who has served a six month prison sentence for common assault & affray, got a further 4 month suspended sentence for ABH, was charged with assault & clearly got off because he wife wouldn’t give evidence & so wasn’t a credible witness. 18 month ban for betting on 44 matches whilst he was a player, too. Now signing Brown, who pleaded guilty to assaulting one woman in March & goes on trial in 4 weeks accused of assaulting another. For balance I really didn’t want us to sign Danny Simpson & still wish we hadn’t, but this is off the scale criminality in comparison, which will of course be ignored by the local media. Truly vile outfit.
  7. Don’t you worry, someone at BCC is working incredibly hard behind the scenes on their behalf to try & make it happen.
  8. Seeing as it starts with the fantasy that Matty James is on more than Kalas ever was, I fail to understand why anyone would believe any of it. As for the point about Vyner & Pring I think the poster above is spot on, both feel that their offers don’t reflect their contributions so either we increase them or they will leave in time. Understand both would prefer to stay though.
  9. That’s abysmal. As someone who manages a team that is in excess of 100 I always strive to treat everyone well & the same. That shouldn’t be seen as some sort of achievement but standard. How anyone can think behaving in that way is right or can possibly make the recipient feel anything but anger at their employer is beyond me.
  10. I know relatively little about him but he cost Chelsea £71m & so they are selling on at a loss. Arsenal have absolutely no incentive here to help Chelsea out from an FFP perspective so I don’t think it’s “dubious” at all, just like so many, one where it seems a rather high price. Dubious to me is where Saudi Arabia is helping a major investor in the country like Boehly to get around his FFP issue or where Arsenal are selling someone rumoured to have a potentially very serious court case on the horizon.
  11. Would that be apart from last season, when they started at home to Forest Green? Great start they made then, losing at home to the side who finished up miles adrift at the bottom. ******* idiots.
  12. Completely true. I’m interested to see how we do in the away games, difficult to improve on our results against Preston & Birmingham at home but evidence of being harder to score against away would be encouraging.
  13. If you do make it up basically the Prem doesn’t give a shit, so you largely get away with it & I can see how that appeals to someone like Ashton. However this season sees the 3 sides who have come down plus Norwich & Watford all with an enormous financial advantage over everyone else, so not the best year to gamble, I think. In hindsight last year was, but unlucky Mark, you were in League One. As others have said Ipswich already have a large squad (imagine my surprise) & let very few go this summer. My guess would be if Knight doesn’t join us he’s more likely to go to Stoke, much nearer to where he is now, established Championship club & historically large wage payers, but it’s all a guess at present, isn’t it?
  14. Clearly loads of moving parts to this but saw this morning that Wolves are selling Nathan Collins to Brentford, & read last week that Everton haven’t taken up their option to sign Conor Coady so Wolves will be integrating him back into their squad as his replacement. With Neves sold too this sorts their FFP & gives them the funds to buy. Might not be them of course, but know they were very keen in January & no reason that should have changed.
  15. Interesting theory. Would just say though based on their recent injury records the likelihood of all of those others being fit at the same time is on the very slim side of remote. Atkinson is definitely out until around November, Kalas was available only 12 games out of 46 last season, Naismith for just 26. Dickie does have a pretty decent availability record (last two seasons 43/46 & 38/46) but Vyner’s last 3 seasons have seen him being available for 46, 46 & 45 games respectively. Even if he isn’t our best central defender that sort of reliability is invaluable when you look at the record of some of the others.
  16. His contract expires in 10 days, so I’d be very surprised if we don’t know one way or the other in the next few days. As a comparator last season Robbie Cundy turned his offer down & then signed for Barnsley on June 22nd.
  17. Very convenient, isn’t it? Looks like Arsenal are also going to use it to make a problem go away & I’d be gobsmacked if Newcastle don’t take advantage here at some point. Modern football, eh? What a disgusting place it is sometimes.
  18. Spot on. Was told at the end of the season we’d informed him that he wasn’t in our plans & by someone I respect that he was consistently poor in his U21 appearances to the extent that we stopped picking him. Pearson is big on expecting players to battle back from adversity, he’s tested the likes of Vyner, Pring, Sykes, Atkinson & Wells to see what they’re made of, those are the ones who have come through it & stayed. His comments in press conferences towards the end of the season about him needing to be fitter & do more were obvious signs he was off, whatever some on here thought. I have been saying since he signed that we see McCrorie playing there, that seems even more likely now.
  19. Really impossible to judge too much on tonight, he was definitely one of Ireland’s better players but they were up against a side that wouldn’t win too many games at National League level. Mark Sykes must wonder if he made the right international choice too, he doesn’t even get sub appearances in games that are won with a long time to go.
  20. He’s kept his place in Sheffield but now has one down here, too. I think we’re his last job in football, he’s 60 soon & reckon that when his time is over with us that’s it. No disrespect to Wednesday, who are a massive club, but I honestly don’t think it would matter who it was. Seems obvious your owner has someone lined up anyway & that won’t be Nigel Pearson.
  21. They don’t understand what a free agent is, it means he is free to move on, not that he can do so for free.
  22. It was “Scott Parker to Leicester” the other day, that didn’t happen either. Absolutely no chance.
  23. This was always going to be the way Wolves solved their FFP problems. I think Scott is very high up their list of targets, Lopetegui’s description above of the type of player he was interested in is an exact fit. No way will we drop the asking price to £15m & I can’t see any likely Wolves players who they would want to shift that we could also afford & would want to make up any shortfall. Their move, I think.
  24. Abysmal, on a par with that vile urine colour away kit we had that time.. I know it isn’t a popular view but I actually like our new home kit, can’t comment on the quality (or lack of it) though, as I never buy or wear football shirts. Really didn’t like the Arsenal one we started the season with & don’t mind the 3rd kit, though the Robin badge is truly embarrassing.
