  1. Those modern-day ‘greens’ letting down car tyres of vehicles with emissions that are generally far less damaging than 70-80-90s camper vans that are currently in vogue with their mates make I laugh. Setting aside targeting the wrong vehicles, they remind me of stewards on the Titanic re-arranging the deckchairs. Well-meaning but as much use as chocolate teapots What they don’t get, or ideologically don’t want to see, is that the main contributor to Climate Change and, Biodiversity Loss is human population growth. That’s the iceberg. Mind you, the religious/political extremists of the ilk of Brexit-Moggy and Bunter are the worse culprits with their 6-8-10 children. The Green Party needs to re-invent and purify itself and get back to when it was a genuine Environmental Grouping, based on science and fact as it was in the early 80’s. COYRs.
  2. Don’t think it’s a fluke. The skill was amazing. As a keeper, you’d be getting ready for the next phase of the attack. Even by remote chance you were expecting a back heel, the most difficult ball to stop is between the legs. As near perfect a back- heel as I’ve ever seen.
  3. The speed of control and ball release, plus accuracy is pretty impressive. They work space well and play positive, expansive football. Let’s hope Mr Southgate is watching. and it’s 4.
  4. As a former keeper, there ain’t much you could do about that frankly.
  5. Agree with general sentiments, however, stock replenishment is a bit iffy. Was in two minds about one of those black t-shirts, but the bloody great badge put me off. We don’t do subtle do we - except on the eye-wateringly expensive track suit tops , which has the better-sized badge. Pre-season optimism, however, got the better of me. Went to the on-line shop to buy one and it seems that all sizes have sold out apart from a couple of baby-grow ones. Hey-ho.
  6. Good tune, but can’t help but hear ‘Banker’ spelt with a ‘W’ in that version personally! Could well have numerous versions. The Referee and could also do a nice one for the Sags Manager, the list is endless. All round a very catchy and flexible little ditty that.
  7. Yep, that was one of the main things I took from the piece. Wants to build a team, not collect individuals. That’s a significant change in the Club’s/ Ashton’s approach and about ******* time! Pearson was/is absolutely the right choice. Smart, with a clear plan and ruthless when needs to be. I like. Nearly all issues I had under LJ/MA have been or are being addressed. Great foundation being constructed on which we can move forward. We may surprise a few this Season and more optimistic about things than I have been for years.
  8. Now then, top 5 favourite pitch invasions:- Coventry A 2-2 Sags A 5-0 Portsmouth H 1-0 Rotherham H we won Chester A 1-0/2-1?
  9. Devastating news. Part of the Ashton Gate experience and Away Day adventures. His enthusiasm knew no bounds. A real loss of a true Club Legend. ‘The Gate’ will never feel quite the same place again. Rest easy.
  10. Anyone read this as ‘Moving to Hull’ and thinking, poor sod.
  11. Hope he does make it with us. Seems a talent and looks an exciting, entertaining player.
  12. Actually, looking at that Dutch pundit I think we ought to rejoin the EU without delay.
  13. Shoot me down - but credit to the women, the technical ability from the elite teams is on a par, if not exceeding that of top men’s teams. Even some of the keepers are pretty decent…in fact that Dutch keeper save was a worldie. Have really enjoyed this tournament. Put me down as a convert. So that’s Brexit and Women’s football I was wrong on. Still waiting to be convinced that CoD should have been given that contract extension mind.
  14. Think there was a thread way back on City celebrities, several of whom are mentioned on this thread. From Formula One I think Jenson Button was/is(?) City, Lando Norris too but the later’s connection I believe was just between his dad and SL (did Steve sponsor Lando early doors?). Quite a few musicians and Banksy, having worked close to the Dirty Duck - despite what South Bristol people say about support north of the river - had to be a red. Somerset cricketers past and present are all over us. While Botham played for Scunthorpe spotted him at AG once too.
  15. It was a release that I found a little surprising. Nige seems to like playing a big, strong, bustling forward and there were times last season where we played Martin to a near standstill. A few 20 minute sub cameos would have been useful to give Martin a break and given an opportunity to fully appraise the lad. We still have no like-for-like back up for Martin, which given he’s a year older makes the decision to release even stranger. Behind most of Nige’s decisions (notwithstanding a very few questionable subs, tactics, playing people out of position and incomings) but this player release is one I can’t quite fathom.
  16. John Cleese - The Mighty Reds Helen Chamberlain - Torquay Chris Packham - Soton
  17. Impressive. They don’t half hit the ball cleanly, and a couple of superb flicks. Really enjoyable game.
  18. I’ve got a feeling we could have a ‘Europe in four years’ posting on this forum soon.
  19. Don’t forget, it’s pre-season for the posters too! Like the players, it takes a while for this forum to return to its usual match sharpness. Some good signs though, when we were losing we had a wafer-thin squad and will struggle improve on last season. Good rally at the end though, where we look to have a squad that should walk the Championship. Things you like to see.
  20. I like our direction of travel, and we will improve on last season’s league position. However, I’d like an under-study to Martin. Nige likes a big man upfront and it was proven last season that Martin is, at best, a max 2 games in 7 days forward. Also have a concern about the 2-3 forwards approach which is great to watch, but which seems to leave us short in midfield with large amounts of free space in front of our defence. Not sure we have the midfield players who can effectively fill that space, but maybe a re-designed defence can push players up to plug the gaps. If those two issues are effectively addressed, a pretty bullish upper mid-table for me, with a good start we could even seriously threaten the play-off places.
  21. Because you have a ‘community asset’ car parking facility with significant capacity sat a few hundred yards from the largest stadium in the region, which either stands empty on evening matches /events or with many unused spaces during afternoon matches. Meanwhile the streets around the stadium are clogged full of cars, much to the annoyance of local residents, and charges for any off-street parking rise at about two thousand times the rate of inflation every season.
  22. I’m looking forward to the zimmer range myself.
  23. Odd commentary for me, aside from the fact that JP didn’t mention City, there seemed a fraction of delay between sound and vision. I knew the penalty had been saved before the keeper saved it. Most bizarre.
