  1. Thinking purely of England, I wanted that game to be a draw - preferably with lots of cards for the Welsh players, to reduce the pressure on us. Iran deserved their win though - well played to them. Wales could still go through - if they beat us. I wonder if the Welsh fans will be hoping for an England win tonight?!!!!!
  2. Blimey - Schumacher makes it into the list. I know he was a pretty handy footballer in his day as well as a world champion F1 driver, but I didn’t realise he was into football management and I also thought he was still recovering from that terrible skiing accident?
  3. I did the stadium tour back a few years ago (when Thierry Henry played for them). Never attended a game though. A very impressive structure. They dug the pitch out to be below ground level. This was to keep the outside structure to a minimum height because Franco taxed structures that were above a certain height. Quite a simple but ingenious dodge.
  4. Do we know when Kalas is expected to be available again?
  5. Did people really want NP out? Plenty (including myself) were questioning his tactics - particularly sitting back on a lead and letting last minute goals in - but I don’t remember seeing any serious calls for him to be sacked. I must admit that I’m only an occasional visitor here though so I may have missed some threads……….
  6. I was sent this chart by a family member - it came originally from ****tter - I don't know the author and I have NO idea of it's accuracy, but if it's even HALF accurate it's shocking. It shows the number of minutes BETWEEN penalties for ALL of the current Championship teams
  7. According to BBC Sport, the EFLs Friday fixtures are postponed. A decision will be made on the Rest of the weekend’s fixtures later.
  8. He also took Yeovil to the Championship and managed them there. They were higher than any of the other West Country sides at that time - higher than us. Ultimately he couldn't keep them up there, but that was an unbelievable achievement. Look at Yeovil now.
  9. From purely a footballing league position achievement at BS3 taken in isolation, I think it's fair to compare Wilson with Cotts and possibly Gary Johnson, but not Lee Johnson, Dean Holden or Nigel Pearson. Using that criteria, Cotts was better than Wilson in that he achieved promotion with us whereas DW couldn't. Gary however, got us promoted from L1 AND continued the momentum with us challenging at the top end of the Championship too - something that neither Cotts nor Wilson could. Lee Johnson, Deano and Nigel Pearson only managed (NP IS still managing of course) us in the Championship, so it's difficult to compare IMHO - the jobs they did with 'debatable' success of a greater or lesser degree are too different from Wilson's. They started with us in the Championship and all kept us in the Championship - and were sacked without taking us down. It gets more complicated if you take finance into consideration - who gained the highest positive climb in league places per £1 spent across ALL the leagues with us - I think if that's the equation then Terry Cooper would be right up there and Lee Johnson would be way down the list - but if you do that then you will need to compare the respective player purchase costs and wage markets for all the different eras and the fiscal state of the nation in general - it becomes VERY complicated. This is of course only comparing managers' achievements whilst with Bristol City. It could be argued from a neutral fan or pundit's perspective that Danny Wilson is better than all the others I've mentioned (apart from Nige) on the back of his achievement in getting Barnsley to the Premiership. Nige of course did it with Leicester, but neither Gary Johnson, Lee Johnson, Cotts or Deano have EVER taken a team up to the Prem. It's all lies, damned lies and statistics - with a large helping of personal preference for one's favourite manager ?
  10. Which underlines my point - probably something personal rather than football-related.
  11. Somebody’s wife involved maybe? not condoning violence - and I know nothing more than what’s on this thread about the situation - but there’s an old saying ‘all’s fair in love and war….’ just suggesting it might be an ‘crime of passion’ - which might explain why the attacker would not care about getting caught and banned from the game.
  12. I’m glad we’ve offloaded him for wage reasons but I’m sure there’s a decent player in there somewhere. He had his own song when he was with us after all ?
  13. Conceding late goals is absolutely our Achilles heel - and opposition managers will know this and drum into their players that Bristol City is there for the taking after 75 minutes. There is a lot of psychology involved in football. When a goal is scored it has a huge mental impact and changes the dynamic of the game. For most sides, going 2-0 down would be psychologically damaging but when playing against us it doesn’t necessarily mean the same because everyone knows we concede at least one goal at the end of games so they will keep positive. We absolutely MUST kill this ghost - we can’t expect to score 3 goals every game.
  14. Great win and we’ll done to Nige and the lads Worrying to concede yet another late goal again though - I needed my adult pampers for the last 15 minutes and I’m pissed off with needing them in every game - they are expensive!!!
  15. I suppose a point away from home after going behind and unbeaten in 4 is not bad. However, it is frustrating to dominate games, get ahead, then sit back on a 1 goal lead inviting the opposition to attack. It’s the same old same old and that late goal monkey is firmly on our backs.
  16. I don’t mind Man U fans who are actually Mancs (yes there are some!!) it’s the ‘plastics’ I can’t stand.
  17. My son went to Uni in Wycombe. He played rugby for Wycombe RFC - and went to a football match when WWFC played the Gas - as a Wycombe fan!! does Akenfenwa (spelling) still play for them? He is an absolute beast! prediction 2-0 City
  18. I totally agree - but other teams don’t have the ghost to bury that we have
  19. Luck? Change of attitude?....... IMHO the luck (Cardiff missing 2 absolute sitters) actually caused the change of attitude. I was going to post this on the Matchday thread but decided not to because I would probably have been be shot down for 'negativity'. Firstly, I thoroughly enjoyed yesterday's game. It's the first time I've seen us so far this season and I thought we were excellent throughout. Great to keep a clean sheet too. Fantastic 3 points against a Cardiff side who are certainly no mugs. Now, here's the 'but' part..... We have made a habit of letting leads slip - which plays on my mind as a fan and I have no doubt that it plays on the players' minds too - it's bound to. Cardiff had 2 very clear chances to score, plus one (dodgy) penalty shout. Of course they didn't score and the penalty wasn't given - but we've seen games like this before SO many times where the opposition take their chances and we concede a dodgy soft penalty (Hull?). If just ONE of those Cardiff chances had been taken I wonder if we would have seen a VERY different game played out. Yesterday we kept the high press and the pressure - and we saw the game out positively which was great. For me, the BIG test of how we've matured as a side will be how we respond after conceding, given our (deserved) reputation for dropping points from winning positions. Would we panic and go to pieces, or would we dust ourselves off, believe in ourselves and get straight back at the opposition? IMHO mentally we need to bury this ghost - otherwise it will always be there lurking and gnawing at our confidence, which I think is still rather fragile. In the meantime I'm enjoying the 3 points - no negativity intended - just honest reflection.
  20. We've been on the receiving end of poor refereeing decisions for years - it makes me wonder sometimes if the Referees Association has a collective bet on us getting relegated!! There are loads of examples - Hull being one the other week, but the game that really sticks in my own mind is that game at Villa a few seasons ago where Weimann had a perfectly good goal disallowed (one of about 7 that season) and Villa were awarded a ridiculous penalty. We should have won that game, but lost because of poor refereeing - LJ received a personal apology from the RA afterwards but it was too late - 3 points lost. With those 3 points we would have made the playoffs that season. It happens to ALL clubs - but it seems to happen to us more often.
  21. Weimann is our saviour When we got him, I popped over to the Derby forum to thank them for allowing us to get him. Their reply was that he wasn’t good enough for Derby - he couldn’t take them where they wanted to go - but he’d do a job for little ole Brizzle. Fk them - and I expect Andi to feel the same.
  22. Nigel Pearson did great for Leicester Danny Wilson did great for Barnsley Neither of them have been able to repeat their achievements here - yet. I really hope NP does
  23. “atmosphere is caused by people, supporters. Back in the 70's and 80's there were no loud music blaring, no bloke on a mic, no need for outside intervention at all.” Back in the 70s and 80s, the ‘atmosphere’ was people taking bike chains and flick knives to games - or throwing cheap plastic-flighted darts, bottles and coins at the opposition fans!! I have no wish to return to those days of hooliganism. I actually agree with the rest of your post though - it’s pointless and dangerous taking flares into football matches so don’t do it.
  24. 58 is far too early. So sad. RIP.
