I think we might need to be careful with statements like the above.  Nigel spent plenty of time on the training pitches, just that a lot of it was observational, just like Dave Rennie did too.  What Nigel did was let his assistant manager (Fleming) and his coach (Euell) run the sessions themselves.  Nige was a prowler on the perimeter.  He wasn’t there all the time, admittedly.  He liked the players to hear different voices, so that on the occasions where he did speak it meant something.  He said he didn’t want to be in their ears every session.

Only the other day Gary Neville said Ferguson did very little coaching but employed the likes of McClaren and Queiroz to do that.

But what does Sir Alex know compared to Jon and Brian eh?

  2. On a side note, Premier League clubs have voted by 12 to 6 with 2 absentions to tighten the rules on associated party transactions (sponsorships and transfers).

One club is rumoured to be threatening legal action. You guessed it, it's Man City.

I never thought more people would get the Vampire Weekend reference than the Dexys reference today. You’ve restored my faith!

Though Come On Eileen came later their first album Searching For The Young Soul Rebels is a classic imo.👌

And who can forget The Nabob of Sob? Well most people actually apart from you, me and Kevin Rowland!😁

I did think he sounded particularly sad tonight - I was listening in mono and my heart was broken as I expect were those of millions of others. My mum was even crying - normally she sings along and I can’t blame her.

    Poor old Johnnie Ray ..

... as in the lyrics of this song?

    Top post if so. Bravo!

I wouldn’t go so far as to accuse BT of craving attention, rather that he isn’t trained or has sufficient knowledge to deal with matters that require a modicum of discretion and discipline when answering questions.

Absolutely. There's plenty of interviewing skills training available (though most interviewers in the media don't seem to have had any).

But what BT and JL both need is training for interviewees. That might at least stop them blurting stuff out without thinking like Tinnion did, as you say.

It might also have stopped Jon saying this was the first time in 20 years that they knew exactly what they wanted from a head coach, apparently unaware that he was admitting they had been getting it wrong for 20 years!

Hard to believe I know but it's just possible though that they would not be up to the job even with training.😉

A column from Jonathan Wilson that gives more detail on Chelsea's finances (sourced from Swiss Ramble).

It's hard to see how they can avoid sanctions in due course.

Imagine having a player in the building who knows what it takes to win promotion from the Championship and who knows what it takes to play in the Premiership. In short, a player who's already achieved precisely what we're trying to achieve.

But a player too closely associated with Pearson and who, because of his experience and knowledge, is seen as a potential obstacle to one or more of the hierarchy perhaps?

It 100% is protectionism to protect their currency. Money spent in India stays there

As I understand it a relatively recent law means the Venkys would have to apply for emergency permission to transfer money out of the country. Though I imagine greasing the right palms might help.

Personally think this has been a decent window certainly compared to a year ago, who had the bright idea of brining Cornick in and wasting a million on Memheti last January?

Your reply seems to be a response to somebody else since it has no bearing on what I actually posted.

For the record I have no problem with the latest window but that is not what I wrote about.

I said on another thread after Scott had been sold that SL was probably keeping the funds back for the next manager.

Yes it was so obvious at the time that we were lied to when we were told there was no money and we had reached the limit of our wage budget.

It's bad enough that they are liars but worse that they think we are so dumb that we will believe their lies.

Conveniently not mentioning Sunderland, Hull and Watford!

That was rather my point. I responded to cherry picking by cherry picking alternative games to suit the opposite argument.

Picking games and excluding others to suit a narrative, whether positive or negative, invalidates the person's case.

It’s aspirational bullshit!  Should be about way you play, not formation.

When I hear Tinnion say “we are now gonna play the same way all through the ages”, my first thought is - why are you starting now?

There should be an identity, not formation.

It's not yet clear what the "way" actually is. Though perhaps we're telling 8 year olds they should play this mysterious "front foot football" and building from there.  Europa League in 15 years then! 😁

Well, they are champions of a European competition

Granted, but it seems an odd time to start berating the bloke after a run of impressive performances and results

I'm not one to berate Manning as it wasn't him who made ludicrous claims when he was appointed.

But I would disagree that we have had a run of impressive performances and results in the league. There are differences in how we play but no improvement in either.

The cup run is fun but he wasn't brought in to win the FA Cup!😉

I thought we just beat European champions West Ham, drew with Forest and almost beat in-form Coventry away from home...?

What about Birmingham, Millwall, Preston, pretty wretched stuff eh? See, I can cherry pick games to make a spurious point too. 😉

Not saying it should be, just a gut feel. Don't think the Premier League handled the original case particularly well and should have had rules in place indicating what the points deduction would be per £5 million of breach (as per the EFL). They seemed to be making it up as they went along.

The Premier League Board proposed a sliding scale of sanctions. The clubs, including Everton, rejected it.

I'm no accountant but I thought expenditure had to be allocated to the accounts for the relevant financial year. So if a player is paid a sum next year that in respect of this year that sum should appear in this year's accounts.

    If that makes any sense!😁
