Let’s get this straight, we have “no recognised CB” in your words, yet you expect us to play the same formation as Wednesday….which would’ve required an extra CB…..nice work mate.

We had one "recognised CB" Vs Blackburn .

With Vyner out we had none, but we could have played JKL an academy player and CB .

That would have meant the same set up with one change, let me know if I've lost you mate.

The ref applied the rules on time wasting/injuries after 90 minutes. Good, although I'd not guessed it was going to be quite that much. And as the pen delayed was delayed for 2 minutes I really don't think the played time was too much over the 5. But I expect Huddersfield will attempt to time it and make a point if they feel hard done by. The cheating barstewards.

I saw the BBC gave the time as 90+10 , the added time was 5 minutes so as we were so shite 30 minutes before the end of the 5 I felt safe to leave

Williams was clattered several times. Memetti was about to come on with Wells when Williams was injured so the bench delayed the decision until they decided what was happening with Williams. They gave it a few minutes but then subbed him off. I'm positive Williams was injured.

OK,  if' that was the reason , but I thought he had run it off.

  4. Well , talk about after the Lord Mayors show .

2nd best across the pitch, 2nd to every ball , 2nd to the loose ball and created virtually nothing.

We could have made one change and kept virtually the same team and shape as Vs Blackburn, but like the ghost of Lee Johnson was overseeing the game ,we chose to shuffle the entire pack .

We were awful in the first half, but no changes until that magical 60 minutes has come and gone , ever !

I know Williams got a knock , but he seemed ok so I wonder why he came off and not James who had a stinker .

Let's not kid ourselves , that should have been two or three nil. not a draw.

Having to start a game with no recognised CB is really unlucky , but we didn't need to set up like that , and we sure didn't need a manager to stand hands in pockets and watch it passively .

LM was pretty clear pre match with Ed or Richard when asked about having used Andy King at CB in the past - “that was previous to my time here”.

That doesn't change the fact that
    1) He has played the position
    2) He did well when playing the position.

Roberts playing CB happened before Mannings time , Tanner playing CB happened before Mannings time .
He is not doing a lot to prove he is a good fit here , not in my opinion anyway.

  6. I said for years I don't like it, I have mates who leave early and I've seen mates leave at half time when the team were giving more entertainment than today .  But they have the right to leave when they want . I usually stay until the final whistle, today I left with 30 seconds to go, but typical woman , she was late and that 30 seconds ran into 5 minutes :rofl2br:*

  7. I left with 30 seconds to go of the 5 added minutes , who knew She meant 10 ffs

But looking at the highlights , the guy doesn't complain much , the Ref gives it straight away and every City player appeals . It seems a good shout , even though I still can't see it.

The only possible rationalisation I can offer, hopefully Manning was asked post game I haven't watched post match yet..

*Only realistic CB options being McCrorie, Tanner, Roberts means a back 3 is a must.

*To do that you require wingbacks.

*Who else on the right but Sykes.

Could, perhaps should have gone 3-5-1-1..Knight, James, Williams- Twine behind Conway in a freer role. Maybe??

Certainly not a Plan A, or even a Plan B but trying to think how you get the best with so many CBs injured.

The starting line up to me looked like a back 4. Why ?
Because Sykes has never really looked comfortable at RWB , Knight has played all his best football in CMF and it seemed obvious.

If we were going to play a 3 , in a game that meant nothing why not give Knight - Label a run ? The "Pathway" remember , though that doesn't seem to exist any more.
JKL plays and it's a straight swap for Vyner, King would be the same, everyone can stay in the same positions as Wednesday when it all worked so well. But no .
To avoid playing a kid ...
We move Sykes, Knight , McCrorie, Tanner when one Player in keeps the same shape and system .

Everyone around me said it, but it took until Williams came off to drop Knight deeper. Another thing , why Williams off ? He was much better than James and he didn't look tired.

Sykes looks much better further forward , he is not a WB and doesn't look comfortable there.

He can bring in any players he likes, it’s his brand on football I can’t get behind.

People around me said the Blackburn game wasn’t great, they just made mistakes that lead to goals.

    1) The players brought in will be from the same group as any other manager here , the final decision will be Mannings, the type of player, but they would have been scouted for some time by the Club.

    2) Blackburn was good , very good. The press, the attitude , the intent , passing and movement was all good . Blackburn were shite and their Captain had a mare and a hand in3 goals, but that doesn't take away from the fact we played well. Possibly we even caused them to make problems by playing well .

That was utter utter uttter utter garbage and to be frank so much of it has had to have effected season ticket sales, otherwise we would be hearing about it.

Im pretty sure I will renew my two but have held off. But that didn’t help. However what was obvious to me was how much we miss Vyner pinging diagonals.

Vyner is rubbish , my mate told me

  10. I thought at first she was picky/petty , but over the game she was good and played the advantage well. 2nd time in a week I've seen advantage played really well, though if I was being very picky , she didn't make it clear all the time she was doing it. The chap Wednesday seemed to make it clear he was playing advantage , which stopped the cat calls from most fans.
Few things I didn't agree with, but that's normal. If she wasn't a woman we'd be saying they were one of the better Refs this season , I like to think we will take the performance on it's own. It was a good Refereeing performance .

But it was a dive when she went down.

It was our ball from the drop ball

and her Lino on the Lansdown side was a clown.

    Huddersfield:

They are fighting for Championship survival.

This match is designated ‘Community Day’ to celebrate the work of the Robins Foundation: https://www.bcfc.co.uk/robins-foundation/

City supporters will be able to take part in an interactive penalty shootout game by PIING.

Fans attending can take part in the PIING Pen-Kick, the interactive penalty shootout game via their smartphones, without the need of an app. To join, you will need to scan the QR code that will be on the in-bowl screen. Once scanned, you will be taken to the PIING Pen-Kick webpage and should follow the instructions to set up and take part.

You could own a signed match-worn City shirt. The auction will go live at kick-off (3pm) Saturday, April 13th and end on Saturday, April 27th (3pm). The shirts will come with all the mud, sweat and any other elements that you would expect from a shirt sourced straight from the pitch. Each shirt is personally signed by the players. All proceeds raised from this shirt auction will go towards supporting the life-changing community work carried out by the club’s official charity – Bristol City Robins Foundation.

Placing a bid is easy. As soon as the first whistle is blown get involved in the auction and bag yourself a piece of Bristol City history.

We won 2-0 the last time they were at Ashton Gate, https://youtu.be/Gk1AapSZSnY

At their place, in atrocious conditions, back in December it finished 1-1 highlights: https://www.bcfc.co.uk/video/highlights/extended-highlights-huddersfield-town-1-1-bristol-city/

Their forum makes for  grim reading: https://downatthemac.proboards.com/thread/119751/bristol-city-htafc here’s an example: ‘Our only hope is that Bristol City are on the beach.

Problem is that Town are so accommodating that even if they are on beach, we'd be rubbing sun cream on their backs and bringing them pina coladas.  Then, in the evening, we'd happily let them ahead of us in the queue and give them have first dibs at the all inclusive buffet; leaving us with all the unlabelled shit which no-one wanted and looked like a dog had sicked up.’

In early June Neil Warnock agreed to stay on as manager for the season despite the fact that he will turn 75 halfway through the campaign. However, they appointed former Sheffield Wednesday boss Darren Moore as their new manager in September. The 49-year-old replaced Neil Warnock after the veteran departed. In late January they sacked DM after just three wins in 23 matches in all competitions.

In February they appointed former Schalke and FC Zurich boss Andre Breitenreiter as their new head coach. The 50-year-old German has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract.

How well do you know Colin? https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/61073905

They signed former Blackpool goalkeeper Chris Maxwell on a two-year deal.

In mid August they signed Mainz forward Delano Burgzorg on a season-long loan deal. The 24-year-old has had spells in his native Netherlands with Heracles Almelo and De Graafschap and a loan spell in Italy with Spezia.

In January they signed midfielder Alex Matos from Chelsea until the end of the season. The 19-year-old moved to Chelsea in the summer from Norwich City and has made two senior appearances. They also signed forward Bojan Radulovic from Finnish champions HJK Helsinki on a three-and-a-half-year deal, for an undisclosed fee. The 24-year-old scored 19 goals in 29 league and cup games last season, and scored a further six in their European outings between the domestic seasons.

They also signed Groningen defender Radinio Balker for an undisclosed fee on a three-and-a-half-year deal. The 25-year-old played in the Dutch top flight last season.

On Tuesday they were away to PNE although they were leading it finished in a 4-1 defeat, thanks  to a late Milutin Osmajic hat-trick. They are 21st in the table on 43 points and are also 21st in the form table based on their last six results, while we are second based on the last six results!

In January Ollie Turton was ruled out for "a number of months" after undergoing knee surgery. The 31-year-old had returned to training after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament against Wigan in February 2023.

Referee is Rebecca Welch, who was the first female ref to take charge of a Premier League game in December 2023. She became a football referee in 2010, but continued to work in her NHS post until 2019, before turning her attention to officiating on a full-time basis.

In 2021 she became the first woman to be appointed to referee an EFL match, when she took charge of the League Two fixture between Harrogate Town and Port Vale.

During her career, she has also officiated at games in the Women's Super League, and was referee at the 2017 and 2020 Women's FA Cup Finals. In December 2020 she was added to UEFA's elite women's list, joining other female football officials to referee at international games, including the Women's World Cup in 2023.

Among those who have played for both teams:

    Marcus Stewart

    Nahki Wells

    Andy May

    Phil Jevons

    Andy King

    Junior Bent

    Kasey Palmer

    Robbie Turner

    Famous fans:

Sir Patrick Stewart - Stewart was born in nearby Mirfield and is one of the most notorious and famous Town fans around. Stewart has been the president of the Terriers’ academy since 2010 and when they were promoted to the Premier League in 2017, he was seen celebrating at Wembley Stadium after the win over Reading in the play-off final.

Jodie Whittaker - Best known for being the 13th incarnation of the Doctor in Doctor Who, Whittaker is another famous face from the world of television and acting to come from the outskirts of Huddersfield.

Ryan Sidebottom - Huddersfield has produced an England international cricketer in the form of Sidebottom. The left-arm bowler played for his national side between 2001 and 2010, playing in 22 test matches, with him also playing for his county Yorkshire.

Bobby Madley - Born in Wakefield, referee Madley was officiating local sides in the area at the start of his career before rising through the ranks.

    Fun facts

Huddersfield has been a settlement for over 4,000 years and can be found in the 'Domesday Book' of 1086 under the name of “Oderesfelt and Odresfeld.”

Huddersfield is the birthplace of rugby league with the local team, Huddersfield Giants, playing in the Super League. It also has two Rugby Union clubs Huddersfield R.U.F.C. and Huddersfield YM RUFC. When it comes to the round ball Huddersfield Town were the first English team to win the league three times in a row.

Staff at KD Decoratives, famed for making Christmas decorations, were once commissioned to make Britain’s largest nodding dog which stood 11 feet tall.

According to Kirklees Council, there are over 3,000 listed buildings in Huddersfield, the third highest number in the country, and over 200 of them are in the town centre. The railway station is one of the more beautiful specimens dotted around, and there has been an inn on the site of the George hotel for hundreds of years.

Top punk band the Sex Pistols played their last two British shows at Ivanhoe’s nightclub in Huddersfield, on Christmas Day 1977. This included a matinee for the children of striking firefighters. They then embarked on the fateful tour of the US that led to the bands break-up. The facade of Ivanhoe's, the former Grand Picture Theatre, is still standing at the very end of Manchester Road behind Lidl.

Aren’t they the same thing, generally speaking?

Or do you mean pre and post-Easter?

I hope LM doesn’t revert to pre-Easter “style”.  I hope he continues with the current intent.  I think it gives us better chance (because we are inconsistent) of both results and a bit of excitement.

Agree, to get some consistency in results it surely helps having consistency in intent and plan.
Those poor games came from using some sort of hybrid low block stand off ( hoping the other team nod off ?) . I know it depends on who we play, but trying to win the ball high, starting the press as a team , meant we played quicker and everyone was "at it" . When we stand off we slow down and get scrappy .

I won't quote your 2nd post Dave , but will add pace and tempo . We seem so much crisper in passing when playing a press, it seems to get everyone in the right mindset instead of sitting and waiting for things to happen.

Same here, great to see the same style threads are still popping up so frequently

I nearly ignored the thread but thought decided to ignore the bait .

  13. Talk about build it and they will come. When the Fishponds Lounge "Porto" was in the smaller site by the park , we could get in a lit more often than now, usually rammed.  The food and service is usually good.

I would say the bigger building isn't so great for acoustics , you can struggle with conversations at times .
The big one in Keynsham hasn't got the same homely feel as the smaller ones do and loses something from the experience. Be interesting to see what happens with the Harbourside site.

  14. Ignoring the 🎣

I think it could be a test. They are hardly likely to be playing open expansive football when they need points. I imagine they will be compact and pragmatic , just the sort of set up that gave us so much trouble a few games ago.
If we don't get an early goal , it could be a long day and a tough game.
The difference from those borefests is a teak in system . I like Sykes and Twine as a 2 behind Conway ( Wells) , Sykes adds some intensity and energy and Twine looked as sharp as he's been here. I thought rotation and movement was good the other night , passing and control really good , a polar opposite to Saturday .

1 win in their last 8 with 3 draws , they have conceded 14 but that looks a little odd ,as 11 of those goals have come in 3 games. The others have been one goal either way.  We should have enough to nick a win, but I'd be very surprised to see us go goal mad again.

Dickie was listed as too early for the other night , I guess that means he could be back. Same with TGH . I think it would be a surprise to see changes , unless someone breaks down . No need to rush players back with nothing on these games , but if he's fit it would be interesting to see Dickie in a 3 and how it effects Vyner if he moves right , not always done well with those positional changes.

  16. I am willing to overlook it seems to hit his head, his back arm is raised and the ball was travelling . Yes he should only give it if he's sure, but it's Eltringham.

What I like is the defender doesn't move and good old Geoff walks past him to give it.

Should be struck off, at least not selected for several weeks .

Bet he does us within a month .

  17. 1 hour ago, Clevedon Red said:

He made it look easy although it was a straightforward game to manage liked how he took his time over the pen and just kept out the way. Contrast that to Geoff Eltringham who gave WBA a penalty for handball, hit him on the head, whilst standing on the edge of the D.

That is the worst decision I have ever seen .
You wonder what the Lino was doing, he must have seen where the bloke was . But even so , it was so bad I expect him to be doing Parks football for the foreseeable .

  18. I thought it was a decent game, with luck they may upload the full 90 at some stage.
We started well and all through the game our press was good.,Knight in that deeper role makes a difference . I thought Twine had his best game by some way and Sykes in the team improves us and our press / closing. McCrorie looked back to something like his best , Tanner was very good again and Vyner too. Tommy lead the line well and the service meant he was much more involved and he started the press well. Williams and Roberts were outstanding , but Blackburn were poor and allowed us so much room that Roberts could move into "overlapping centre back" mode with very little threat of getting caught out.  Mehmeti must have been begging Manning to get on against a struggling defence . Nice to see Wells get goals and a good assist by Cornick.
Pleased that JKL got on , but it also it says something that even in a game we are cruising in Mebude isn't given a run.
All round good day , we do need to show consistency and back it up on Saturday . It won't be as easy , I see Huddersfield being much more compact and similar to those sides we struggled against not that long ago.
