  1. It’s up to Nige now to force SLs hand by pushing us towards the upper parts of the league during the season. He has no choice if NP does well really.

Its quite clever on SLs part because if we finish lower mid table, SL can sit back and say I was right not to back him with funds.

It is all very strange though as the job he’s done under the circumstances I would imagine any other champ club would have offered a new contract by now.

It was massively fascinating, I really didn’t know what to expect. Lovely guy too.

The big takeaways for me that are shareable (not that he told me anything top secret either), paraphrased a bit were:

    • they are massively into data, everyone is bought into it.  They don’t knee-jerk on anything, they confirm  good and bad with data.  They wouldn’t tell a player he was poor on Saturday without being able to back it up, that might be running data, touches in areas of the pitch, performance data of his opponent, etc.  And conversely they wouldn’t blow smoke up a players arse for having a good game without showing them data as to why too.  Hence no feelings of favouritism, a lot of trust as a result, even if there is obvious banter around teachers pets like Jamo!
    • how insular football / pro football can be and that they sometimes miss stuff because they are used to looking at things.  As Rennie isn’t from a football background originally, he can give a different perspective.  Nige will ask him what eleven he’d pick, it’s not just Fleming and Euell, ditto Tinnion.  He might not change, but he is keen to understand “why” they might choose a different line-up to him.  It gives him another perspective.

@Nuno Gomes He certainly didn’t think Nige was old-skool, said he was very modern in his approaches, both coaching / tactical and medical.  I guess the FoxPunter video sums up where his focus is and that’s getting the foundations laid first.

When are we gonna see chaos!!! ???  sounds like it could be fun.

Well done Dave, great to see some recognition from the club for all your efforts.

I know we all massively appreciate your time and opinions on this forum.

Was there any hint of maybe a job or some sort of consultancy type role for you at the club in the future, you’re obviously on their radar…..

A page on the Wolves forum is quite interesting, read for yourselves not copy and paste as that is multiple posts.

One says we are playing a stupid game of chicken with Wolves..wonder if this will drag late into the summer window.

Supposedly we are mucking them around, any insight or thoughts?

Haven’t read it but mucking them around ?. Typical prem club arrogance because we aren’t bowing down to them.

I would suggest they’re mucking us around with these pointless offers. The starting price is 25m so stop “mucking us around” and pay it or F off and find someone else.

Either pay the asking price or dont if they pull out now we aren’t gonna cry and say we should have taken 18 or 20.

We keep him for another 2 seasons.

Trying to think how these scenarios may work.

Not even talking the top of the top but forget Bournemouth, Brighton ,West Ham even.

If tomorrow Borussia Dortmund with their record with giving Bellingham, Haaland and Sancho and they are still looking for CM number 2, anyway they gave the platform came in with a £23m bid and we stuck rigidly then Scott may not be too happy. Inter likewise, European Cup finalists and of course a big history similar number- came back with a £22-23m bid, and we said "£25m and we'll talk"- I expect it wouldn't go down well.

Let alone the big clubs over here or the top 5-10 in Europe above those I just listed.

Lansdown is a very honourable bloke, he never has and never will stand in the way of a dream move as long as it’s fair for everyone.

How Bristol City would it be to reject an £18m bid for him to then walk away on a free.

On the flip side we would get 2 attempts at promotion to the premier league with him in our team, presumably improving along the way.

if and it’s a big if we were to be successful in promotion over these two seasons that would be worth a hell of a lot more……

Historically, Derby are a bigger club than us, shits given =0.

At present we are higher in the food chain and a club moving in the right direction.

We know what we are, possibly Derby fans should be content to still have their club rather than the bitter comments we are seeing.

For our Derby viewers of a certain vintage, don't forget we looked oblivion square in the face many years ago as well.

I wish Derby well but as things stand, we are in the stronger position.

The other point I am happy to make is that we've seemingly got this done before Scotty goes so can't be held to ransom. Good work to all involved.

    This ? !!!

it’s like us selling Semenyo to Bournemouth, we are the bigger club but at this moment in time they are the more “attractive” club.

To be honest, at that price(says £18m I know euros has been out there too) you have to start the discussion with Alex himself I think. I always looked at the 25m as the max. 20-25m and I don’t think we withhold the move from him. That would have to be guaranteed 20-25m though. Then some add ons and sell on.

It isn’t an easy line to toe. Being ambitious and keeping our best but also providing a platform for players to move on. At 18m quid it becomes a negotiation imo not just a flat out rejection.

    18 million fine

50% sell on clause too then

Are you referring to Roberts or Massengo?

If Massengo, please read my reply above.

If Roberts, as far as we know Brighton did not offer him a contract, so he has just left.  We should have no ongoing liability to Brighton.

In that case I stand massively corrected, was sure sell ons wouldn’t apply. But happy to be corrected Dave.

The extra million or so obviously comes in handy,, do you think if burnley was to be the club we have any power to add a sell on clause as part of the negotiations?? It would make sense that brighton did this with the roberts transfer, ie free transfer but with a clause on future sale?

id be surprised if we spent anymore money on fees now unless some more money comes in,,, do you think theres still some left in the pot?

He’s not a free transfer he’s out of contract. There will be no sell on clauses or any bonuses.

it will be a fee paid for compensation

I think Kalas will not be the same and his injuries will continue probably. His age is not 20 anymore so his recoveries it seems are not for long term. I like him but not for 25k week.

And for top league scorer, yeah but I still fele that we need a good striker.

He won’t be offered 25k a week mate. Probably less than half that.
