  1. Host of reasons why crowds fell surely. On pitch considerations- two relegations followed by a third year of struggle. Economic climate was difficult or choppy. The whole hooligan issue. Perfect storm and the worst possible time to get relegated- attendances were down at many clubs from eaely to mid 1980s, the sharp decline on the pitch only compounded it.
  2. Yea, I came across an interesting YouTube cut across 2 documentaries which I shall post. One of the lines then was that football couldn't take the wages being paid! The wages sounded like peanuts compared to now even for top level players, even factoring in generalised inflation or wage growth. Would lobe to know, maybe I'll research it a combination of: *The average UK wage *The average Football League ticket price *The average Football League wage *The average Football League season ticket price. *Now you have PL too. Then v now, say 1982 v 2022.
  3. It could certainly, marginal gains and all that. Can't see it happening personally, surely club would have made a decision by now but still a week of course.
  4. Nixon has covered it in the last day or 2- Lewis O'Brien I think is one, loan with obligation for £10m if promoted.
  5. Fair. If it's a good turnout then definitely woukd be nice if the club considered it, get as much home support in as possible. The two Manchester games and then Derby at home in a late season play-off pushing clash 2019 were the last two I remember.
  6. Has this been floated as a possibility then? Source?
  7. Agreed. Do have to say although may be it's false memory, newspapers or a lot of them x over.snd report on EFL games a lot less than even 20 years ago-, an sure The Game in The Times for example used to have more comprehensive coverage in the Monday not too long ago. It's now a few paragraphs round-up a lot of the time.
  8. I mean, the two goals we conceded were very poor. Wr dominated certain aspects, did Stoke really outcreate us? Hit woodwork at 1 up, score that and we quite likely win- no it wasn't vintage.
  9. ...Bury and Macclesfield- very sad. Then Blackpool under the Oystons untik they left- Coventry under SISU for years, how far back do we want to go? Bolton for about 4 or 5 years from the mid 2010s. Birmingham and WBA look in a precarious position, how on earth have Sheffield United managed to steer themselves into an embargo for non payment given Parachute Payments in Year 1 and 2, 2 x £100m of TV money resulting in profits and a wage bill by PL standards of £56m is very low indeed! Derby nearly went bust- Carragher really doesn't look far does he. Shocked at WBA in particular needing MSD given not exactly major spenders and PL or Parachute cash every since from 2002-03, to present.
  10. Well to be honest they're not. By Premier League and their rarified standards, perhaps but they're not.
  11. I hope the 72 collectively tell them what they can do with this concept.
  12. Has to be done. Line in the sand, very much a hard no- yeah thin end of the wedge as you say.
  13. Football Insider is hit and miss, seems alright for financial related issues. The price itself wasn't so well written, think what thst bit means is an appetite from PL clubs for EFL clubs to do this, doubt there is a great appetite from EFL clubs however. Sure this sort of thing was mooted a while ago, a big NO hopefully.
  14. Dunno if it's worthy of a thread in itself but... Wonder if PL clubs are trying to tie this to extra revenue.
  15. Okay this could be kind of relevant. Sheffield United subject to approval and ratification, takeover sale price a reported £90m. A) What would be part of the package here and B) What would SL be looking for? Sheffield United like us own their ground, unsure what their training set-up is like but both will now be part of club ownership. Otoh our ground is more recently redeveloped, has more off field revenue and the HPC is very new. Like us, they have a Category 2 academy. Plus PL x 2 and again in 2006-07, looking a decent bet to return this season- what would we go for once our books cleared somewhat ie what would SL be looking for?
  16. Well yes very true. Bennett goes off and we won but we had to absorb some pressure but then again like I say how many points has dodgy officiating cost us this year- that possibly more than offsets some of the individual away games.
  17. I mostly agree with your post but by the same token were we lucky to get a point at Wigan and indeed at Middlesbrough. Then again deserved at least a draw at Norwich. Cuts both ways- while in a strict sense an error cost us, they also had their chances, otoh Stoke at home...hit woodwork at 1 up, we really earned our goal as well but 2 errors cost us. Swansea in the League not sure we deserved more particularly. West Brom away we had to absorb a lot of pressure 2nd half although being 2 up enabled us to protect a lot more. Did we deserve more at X9ventru? Had to absorb some pressure, at home perhaps but then again at Rotherham we won with less xhsbces and possession- perhaps we were more effective on the break 2nd half. XG fwiw has us about 5 pts worse off than what we're on now massive improvement in the last 2 seasons and maybe best since 2018-19 but it cuts both ways. The big intangible of course is officiating- for the deserved more/less based on performances how many points has this cost us?
  18. Wages, amortisation. Until Semenyo went no fee for 18 months paid out, no PL loanees for 5 windows and counting. Not only that but the football is now drastically better than when he joined, some bad days of course but in the main. Far better bang for buck than before and in general terms at home especially in terms of performance plus on the road in terms of at times, resilience we are a lot more competitive than we were on much less cash.
  19. Some of it will be academy, community and women's football- a few clubs ironically Derby initially under Mel Morris broke some or all of these down separately in the group accounts. We do not which is fine but we don't. Obviously cost of staging events, football in this instance, non football would be covered by AGL. Still doesn't explain it all however, we can extrapolate for some of the areas above but still doesn't square the circle properly.
  20. World Cup Fan Village such as it was being deferred this season- usually in the summer- will help. The small Cup runs albeit dunno prize money for the League Cup will help, any half season ticket or membership take up will help- but Cup runs you can't budget for, nice bonus all the same. We may have got there in slightly different ways but I post Semenyo roughly agree with the £13m pre tax loss. Maybe a bit less.
  21. Maybe was a bit less but not vastly so- £20m perhaps prior to January of course. Unless you're Reading of course who seem to have some sort of tieup Chelsea but in general yes it certainly seems to cost and or comes with game time demands. That said presumably even if not the financial aspect, Reading would have the game time demands. Marina Grankovskaia - Kia Joobrachian - Dai Yongge.
  22. Some mutual respect IIRC reciprocated when Preston won the title and we were top ten/midtable on the final game in 1999-00.
  23. Was a rainy day as I recall. Was there with some friends who were living up North at the time. Went up from Kent, a long Saturday morning journey that. Important gdown the bottom, we put a bit of daylight and it pushed 6jrm further back into the mire, Phil Brown had not long taken over there and it ended a winless, goalless run for us iirc Yes a good debut by Clarkson as OLL mentioned, Caulker's long passing was very much on point in fact Caulker was verbatim. Had a quick look and all the strikers had a good.day- Andy Keogh scored, Pirman too. Was actually going to go again this weekend as have a friend who lives on Merseyside but he was rostered late.
  24. Been leaked or maybe 'leaked' to The Sun a document for it. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11703467/Government-football-charter-LEAKED-owners-unable-prove-source-wealth-BARRED.html
