No I’m not and and it was poor on the day , but I have been watching city for about 50 years ( I’m no happy clapper ) but things have been much worse but I agree things do have to approve but manning out brigade need a reality check , he needs a preseason and a few of his own players see where we go from there , and for what’s it’s worth I was a Nige supporter ( well most of the time )

Not a dig at you Red Kev, but merely using your post to pose the question as this is something that other posters have brought up about preseason. What additional magic do you expect him to find in preseason that he has not been able to do since November? I’m failing to see how a week in some Bavarian resort with the players cycling to training will suddenly transmit whatever style he’s trying to put out on the pitch….

What we are currently getting is functional but really not entertaining, and it appears we’ve already had our one shot on goal in this match now.

He isn't out of his depth

Nothing more than a glorified academy coach that was once employed by the City Group, and given his perceived lack of interest in our academy players, I’d even question that. Not even close to being a championship standard manager.

It’s not instruction. That’s a terrible excuse. You can’t blame a manager for a player taking 6 touches to think about his next move. It also happened under the previous manager. It’s not instruction, it’s the players speed of thought.

Disagree with this, he’s definitely regressed under whatever system is being imposed at present, it’s almost as if the spontaneity has been drilled out of the team. I see him as a player that can keep things ticking over with an eye for a pass, Manning has turned him into some sort of drone.

Fans are fickle, they are easy to lose and win, win 10 on the trot a d most will be happy,

I wouldnt read too much into it at the moment

With the level of football being played at present there’s more chance of losing 10 on the spin than ever coming close to winning that number.  The quality of football that the current head coach is presiding over is dreadful, it’s not entertaining and has very little to get enthused over.

I was going to post last week, but since TGH’s permanent move he seems a lot less attacking.

When he was signed (under Pearson) he would receive the ball in midfield and look for a forward pass; or he would drive into space.

Since signing, and under Manning, he seems to receive the ball and his first thought seems to be to turn and pass back to defence. It’s a shame, because when we signed him permanently, I was excited. I saw him as the slightly more attacking of the midfield two. The player to receive the ball from defence and look to bring is forward.

As others have said, he is still young, but I’d like to see a bit more bravery both in attack and defending.

I think he’s stymied by Mannings way of playing, the majority of City players receiving the ball tend to look to play backward , I guess because the are looking for the “trigger”, I don’t think this is anything to do with bravery more being over coached. Add TGH to the ever growing list of players who have regressed under super coach.

  6. I wonder if the coaching staff are holding their handbooks and clipboards the right way up during the coaching sessions, this might explain the urge to pass back constantly..

Lads you know the wooden frame with the net that’s on the training pitch that you kick balls into during the Robins uncut videos, perhaps have a go doing that during the game, preferably the one that does not have Max in it

Manchester United lining up Gareth Southgate after the Euros 😮

I think I would prefer Mannning to Southgate!

Errr.. no you’re alright, I’d take a manager with international experience at the highest level over a glorified academy coach, but thanks for trying.

But that’s a view based on four games. You wouldn’t have been saying that four games ago. This is talking next season/four years!

Clearly there’s a scenario where we simply lose the next four then the next four but a) I don’t think that will happen and b) I’m not convinced that yet another change at the top in the midst of that would really help.

it’s not a view on the last 4 games, look at the trend and the form table for the last 10 games, it’s only Rotherham that has are worse than us. The only reason why our league position is not worse is partly due to the starting point that Manning had and the fact the Sheff We’d and QPR had dreadful starts. The Cup games, Boro and Southampton merely act as the icing to disguise the shit cake.

The problem is now that the damage is done.

I said they are a League 1 squad with a few key additions. If I’d put a ‘League 1 promotion winning squad’ would that make it better? I thought that was obvious but evidently not! It’s what they are.  It’s factual.

True, but they’ve definitely got something about them as a collective, and pace too. The generally accepted view was that they’d fall away just after Xmas, if anything they’ve got stronger.

Yes I did wonder why McCrorie was so far in field challenging for a header which left such a big gap in the right back position

I’ve watched him to it a lot, he is a ball carrier and drifts in field a great deal, but he’s not pacy and when he invariably loses it he’s so out of position. Not overly impressed

That’s a whole different debate which I cannot be arsed with tonight, but just to say they are a league 1 squad with a few key additions.   It’s not an excuse.

I think you do them a disservice, the sum of the parts is much much more than a league one squad, as much as it pains me to say it. I’d say that Leeds and Ipswich have been the 2 best teams at AG this season. It might be league one recruited players but they do have a thing going for them. Reminds me a bit Cotterill’s promotion team, they just know how to win and have huge belief that they will regardless.

Yes, I was thinking McCrorie would be an upgrade on Tanner, but on the last couple of displays you would have to say Tanner is a MUCH better defender at RB than McCrorie is.

Absolutely, McCrorie is better up the pitch, but does not convince as a right back regardless of whether he thinks that’s his best position, he’s not the quickest and then gets caught out of position meaning that someone has to cover. A half fit Sykes is not the answer there… I’d be starting Tanner if fit
