    His role in the team isn’t to be the one looking to make “the killer pass” thought, is it?

    If you’re unable to see what MJ role is and what he brings to the team I dunno what to say

    I see his role and what he brings. It just doesn’t cause me to get overly fussed by it 🤷🏼‍♂️

    Perhaps I have a tendency to favour the more advanced lying midfielder, for their creativity and ability to run at defenders.

    Having said that, as deeper lying midfielders go the best I have seen at AG (in recent memory) in a red shirt is easily Paul Hartley. Such a shame we got him at the end of his career. But he was a prime example of someone who kept things ticking over and was capable of spreading the play and getting us in on goal.

    What did you think of Wade Elliot ?
    All he did was be available , get and pass the ball t a Red shirt and keep us moving.

    It's not all about killer balls or Hollywood passes , the game is much more than that.

    Didn’t mind him. Played a pivotal role in the team of that era. Complemented our style at the time nicely.

    Think we benefited massively from having him and Freeman though. Elliot deeper, keeping things ticking over. Freeman pushing forward running at defenders or playing that killer pass.

    Maybe that’s the issue now? We lack not the Elliot-type player (MJ) but the Freeman-type one.

    If ever there was a more over-rated player than Trundle...

    I like MJ, but certainly don’t buy into the hype in this thread.

    Keeps the ball moving, granted. But I don’t see enough of him playing the incisive or “killer” pass.

    Favours the safe option far too much for me (though you could argue that’s the tactics we set up with I suppose also).

  4. Sorry Mark but he’s still got an almighty job to do yet to convince me that he’s the right man for the job.

    I really enjoyed today’s match, I want to see more of that. Yet, why do I feel we are massively going to revert to type against Plymouth?

    No polls. No hoping for the best.

    He’s either hopelessly out of his depth or he’s just not cut out to be a football manager at this level.

    I can only agree.

    Honestly **** this board sacking NP and bringing a total novice in.

    In midweek Ipswich were able to make a quadruple substitution & bring on 4 players who had a massive impact on the game.

    A great point made here. For me, we do not have any subs who I would define as “game changers”.

    If football’s expansion of substitutions is leading towards a system more like rugby union, where you have “starters” and “finishers” then you have to expect that your “finishers” are both capable of holding a lead or turning over a deficit.

    We just don’t have anyone who falls in that bracket for me.

  7. It’s a no from me. Numerous reasons really but I think another poster (I can’t recall who) summed it up nicely by saying that at the moment other things in life have become more enjoyable (and therefore feel like more of a priority) than watching city play 🤷🏼‍♂️

    Makes me wonder if some of the players have since been told they won't be staying and things have gone tits up in the dressing room.

    Wouldn’t surprise me tbh.

    Ed and Gary were discussing this on Radio Bristol. JL created the pressure on Manning from the get go.

    Ed Hadwin has a really strange love-in for Manning. Gary Owers was 100% right to challenge him on it. Hadwin keeps pushing his own personal agenda every time he hosts and is very quick to shut down fans who he doesn’t agree with.

    Bring back Geoff, so much better than Hadwin, Hoskins or Ray.

    After todays “performance” the stats now read -

    Played = 21

    Won = 6

    Drew = 5

    Lost = 10

    Points per game = 1.09

    Over a 46 game seasons that’s 50 points and relegation.

    Win percentage = 28%

    Summary

    Top 6 squad (so were told) playing bottom 6 (possible relegation) football

    It’s not looking good brev.

    People showing they know literally **** all about goalkeeping, sweet **** all.

    I’m not convinced MOL should be number one long term, but I do also have to agree with this comment wholeheartedly.

    "Lads, if you keep playing like that I'll get very cross"...............

    Yeah this exactly, sorry but LM doesn’t look like he could fight his way out of a paper bag let alone fight for his job.

    It’s not what his narrative was though.

    He’s changed.  We all know why.  He’s compromised himself.

    You have long time mentioned him as a Piers Morgan type, and I've often said you need someone like him on the pod.

    But I’d currently argue he’s lost objectivity, he’s lost his edge, he’s lost relevance in his angle on the current debate.  You could also argue the pod has moved forward with the likes of @TomSutton on giving a different angle.

    It’s interesting to watch it / listen to it play out.

    +++++

    @Countryfile you put it better than I did.

    I have to agree - think Tom has been an excellent addition to the pod, and in general the pod is much better when Neil is on the pannel as well.

    If someone would like too correct me. But I believe it's to create space slightly further up the pitch.

    This was the original intention behind this goal kick routine. However, virtually every team in England has sussed this now and so it doesn’t work anymore. Especially if your keeper’s kicking is a tad inconsistent.

    Let’s rewind 2 years ago - if you search the historical posts on OTIB - there were posts saying NP out?
    Are we blaming 2 managers or should we look at players? Just a thought.

    Players are certainly not at the required standard, but then you have to ask who is recruiting them? (Presumably Tins)

    And who is coaching them? (Presumably Manning).

    And who believed that the players were a top 10 squad? (JL).
