He has always had a howler in him (see Ajax V Tottenham...) and has played for teams who don't face many shots so would never have really got exposed. Can remember a similar thing happening with Valdes at Barcelona, take him out that team and he was a bang average goalkeeper with world class distribution, may get to a point where this happens here.

Just seems to be a bit over dramatic with everything that he does and over exaggerate his movements. The second goal yesterday was like he was trying to punch the ball clear as far as possible instead of a two handed parry to the side (or even try and catch the thing!)

Will make the occasional worldie but in terms of basic goalkeeping very poor! Compare him to Vicario at Spurs (who cost about 1/3rd of the price I believe) and only one of them looks close to being a world class keeper. (Which at the prices paid they both should be!)

    Spot on 👏🏻

Is it me or does our new stadium, from the outside look grubby? I was working down there yesterday and noticed that all frame work is either rusty or covered in green grim and dirt and even inside the roof supports could do with a touch up.

Also I hear that the sporting qtr seems to be going to the courts, I guess this means another 2 year delay?

    Agree. Needs a good clean.

I always thought the ceiling of the Dolman still looked like it needed a lick of paint after the re-fit was finished

Agree, always struck me as cheap that we just let the red paint fade to pink, and the pink faded paint steadily fade to the weird pale colour it is now.

  3. This is what happens when you prioritise ability with the feet over the core fundamentals of goalkeeping. Onana is a fantastic footballer. But a truly league 2 standard goalkeeper.

Very unfair. In my opinion, DP hosts the show excellently, and although IG isn't everyone's cup of tea, a pod like FBC needs differing views otherwise it would be too samey. Carry on Headhunter, I find it very enjoyable.

Agree with this. I believe Headhunter used to work in the local media? It shows. His hosting is much better (imo) than 3PIP and OSIB.

Also agree on your secondary point. FBC works because there’s a mixture of views. Not just the same old pro-club, pro-regime nonsense.

I'm probably in the minority but would love to see a remake of the red with blue shorts - or even the blue away kit for the cup final

Not alone, but think the opportunity has been missed. The 100th anniversary would’ve made sense, but we’ve well passed that now.

Of course, and so do I. But I don’t think that precludes valuing the role of players like James, Skuse, Pack, dare I say Johnson.

I loved watching sides we’ve had that have been full of entertaining players. The side with Cole, Jacki, Rosenior, Atteveld, that would win 4-3, but lose 3-4 more often! Terry Cooper’s City.

But they’ve rarely achieved anything beyond league 1!

For me, that has often been due to poor culture (drink), bad managerial choices, or board mismanagement of the club as a whole.

It is very possible to be attack minded and “on the front foot” in this league, and challenge for promotion. I’d much rather see that style of play, and the players that demonstrate it, than passive and ultimately safe sideways and backwards passing.

I won’t slate James for being a “safe” player. He puts on a red shirt, he gets my support. But I’ve never got out of my seat watching him play. He’s alright and that’s about it.

It's not just the initial save, what you can't appreciate from the clip above is he still had the presence of mind to stick his leg out to stop the Wednesday player getting the rebound.

Atkinson was also complimentary in his commentary about how well Max helps them defend crosses.

Perhaps he needs some more established competition, but I still think it would cost a lot of money to get a significant upgrade, whether it's transfer fees or salary.

Which would be money well spent, IMO.

Isn’t that sometimes exactly what’s needed though? And every side needs a player like that. It’s a balance, of course. I’m not one for the stats and the heat maps, but I wouldn’t mind betting that those cautious, conservative passes, that secure possession, go on to result in an effective attacking move just as often as the quick forward pass. It’s what players like him, Skuse, Pack, dare I say Johnson, do well.

Perhaps, but ultimately I pay my money to be entertained not to watch safe and conservative play. Football is a game of opinions, I will always prefer to watch a midfield player capable of taking the ball, turning, and driving at the opposition. TGH does this, he gets my support wholeheartedly.

TBF, the trumpeter had finished several seconds earlier. I was wondering why the referee hadn’t blown his whistle as I thought he would at the end.

Downsy had said that the reading would take place, followed by the last post, followed by a period of silence which would end on the referee’s whistle.

Just my opinion but the Sheff Weds fan who shouted out after barely a few seconds didn’t show much class or respect.
