Putting a 6 ft 5 inch centre half like McCombe up front sounds like pure desperation for any opposition to see that we were clueless and running out of ideas. Trundle would have at least provided a creative spark up front, and would have tried to carve out a few opportunities for himself. Yet when he played in that role for us countless times over the previous 2 seasons it rarely happened. We were simply lumping it up last night and LT would have struggled as he always has done when we played that way. You're quite right he isn't going to play for us again, but I don't agree that McCombe would have been more likely to make something happen. We've seen with McCombe that as soon as the ball hits the deck he's utterly useless. Carlisle would have known that this was just a final roll of the dice.
