Gj's 'interaction' With The Crowd

Once more Gary gets involved with a face in the crowd.

Today it was the guy in the Atyeo at HT who was indicating that we needed to go 442 which seemed to rile our gazza.

Gesturing to him, and then instructing the stewards, who gave the bloke a talking to, seems rather pointless. (and frankly petty)

what does he acheive, does he get the crowd behind him? Gary seems to like building a seige mentality with the players.

He seems to increasingly want to play this card - 'a minority of vocal fans who disagree, but we'll show 'em' etc but today it just felt like the poor bloke was as frustrated as everyone else who watched us start with (what I saw) as the wrong formation and play with a confused lacklustre approach.

As a football manager you are in the spotlight and are judged on results, as paying customers fans will always sound their dissatisfaction when the performance seems to be lacking. It probably is a minority but as the saying goes 'I may disagree with what you say, but I'll fight to defend your right to say it'

We've introduced a new system this season eschewing the well loved 442 wing play for a 3-5-2/ 5-3-2 type thing that frequently needs adjusting mid match for it to work properly. IMO this isn't working and we are seemingly lacking the sparkle that we've seen in previous seasons. Yes, we are in a good position, Yes, we are unbeaten at home since the bronze age, etc etc BUT, where's the beef? where is that sparkle, that flair, the drive, that we know the team is capable of?

GJ seems to be searching for something and not finding it, but he keeps coming up with the mantra of 'Ashton gate being a fortress', and 'we're unbeaten in XXX' and that as fans we should really 'get behind the lads'. Here's the thing, WE ARE!

That bloke today paid good money to get in, he was probably as irritated as GJ was by Sheff Weds negative approach, but Gary, you need to handle this stuff better, you're not making friends by bullying the fans.

IMO, folks, IMO.

Johnson doesn't handle critism of any sort very well. Today was not the first time he's got into conflict with the fans. He should be more proffessional and ignore it.

Agree, pays his money and all that. Alright for him when hes taking us up and reaching play-off finals. A bit of criticisim and he has a hissy fit.

Come on GJ i know you're a great manager, sort it out.

Yeah, but it didn't stop there. The bloke was taken down the exit/entry stairs by the stewards - presumably ejected, as I didn't see him 2nd half. This is disgraceful - we live in a democratic land where freedom of speech is supposedly guaranteed (Red Goblin, your chance) - there wer no excessive (if any) expletives that I heard. The guy just said what any halfway-intelligent football watcher would say. GJ is totally out of order and has lost a huge amount of respect (not only my opinion).

The Stewards acted like complete tw**s and even their 'Assessor' acknowledged that perhaps they could/should have dealt with things differently.

Not a good day for GJ!

It that right? the bloke was ejected because Johnson ordered it?

If its true its a complete disgrace. Thats the behaviour of a dictator.

Agreed - totally.

That's what I saw.

if other fans hanging around the concourse under Atyeo Block E saw, or know, different then I would like to know. Maybe the guy (who looks about as 'harmless' as they come is a Forum member - let's hear it from the 'horses mouth). As far as I am concerned, GJ has just pushed it to a new, low level.

No doubt the Mods will be circling.

I sit a few rows above the tunnel. Saw GJ walking in looking around at the fans and pointed at what fan who was shouting '4-4-BLOODY-2 JOHNSON!' and he did the ol' two fingers up gesture too him. GJ then told a steward to kick him out the ground. I went down to see what was going on and lots of his mates were trying to protect him to let him escape but it wasn't happening. He got kicked out.

In football you can expect that reactions from fans. If you do well you get the whole standing up bouncing around 'ONE GARY JOHNSON' so you have to be able to take some criticism. Might have just lost a fan tonight from an outrageous babyish reaction. Hope he gets an apology from GJ although i doubt that.

I'm staggered. Mr Lansdown, if you or your family are reading this, can we have a club statement about this on Monday please? This is shocking, if true.

Im trurly shocked if this is the case.. I sit in the EE and didnt have a clue any of this was taking place, but i have been in the Williams on the ood occasion and have seen the way GJ reacts to fans, it baffles me that a proffesional manager who is payed thousands of pounds a week reacts to what a few members of the public shout at him.

For a manager to order somebody to be kciked out of the ground (dont forget this man works hard to line the pockets of GJ) is disgraceful IMO.

I saw the person gesturing with his fingers 4-4-2, I think GJ took this to be an insult & beckoned him down, The guy was on the way to the toilet/bar and when it appeared that he wasn't responding GJ talked to the stewards who then started discussing what to do. The chap then re-gestured that he was indicating 4-4-2, and not swearing. He then left. The stewards then got together and made their way up into the stand and were persuaded by other fans that there was nothing in it and that the guy was just indicating 4-4-2, they left, but the supervisor then decided he needed to act and again went back up and gave the guy a talking too.

Thats all I saw. so anything more we need to hear from the chap in person I guess.

Messy, and pointless.

not sure, but Iw as sat right behind it when he was shouting and when Gary pointed him out. Im 99% sure that was him I seen at the end though

Could well be, my friend. All I know is that I saw him in the concorse being 'escorted'. I don't know where he sits, so I cannot really comment further. However, GJ has lost some 'Browny points' today - for certain.

even if the bloke had been giving GJ the two fingered salute (which he wasnt, it was definately 4-4-2), he doesnt deserve to be ejected.

I'm not a frequent poster but am incensed enough by Gary's actions to feel the need to comment.

I didn't hear what was said but saw clearly Johnson motion to the guy to come down to the front of the Atyeo, the sort of 'signal' that our so called hard man fans might use to the opposition fans.

He then spoke to a steward. I asked a steward later if the guy had been ejected and he said quote 'the manager asked for him to be ejected'.

Gary you are as childish and unprofessional as the goalkeeper you've just fined, I suggest you fine yourself.

Agreed. We individually saw what we saw. If the guy is a Foeum member, then hopefully he will come on here to clarify - unless he was only allowed back in if he never. ever, ever mentioned it to anyone during his lifetime.

Making the 2 Central defenders, 2 attacking fullbacks, 2 holding midfielders, 2 wingers, 2 strikers formation gesture should not get a fan ejected.

Like the players getting stick is part of your job, and i think part of your job is not to react to it. I'd be quite happy for SL to discipline Gary publicly becuse this certainly isn't the first time.

Lots of huff and puff in this thread - but how can we find out what really happened?

GJ has really lost the plot on this one if he had a fan ejected - after the game even GJ said it was not good enough and during the game Hartley was f'ing at Haines to up a gear - so for a fan to be ejected for expressing the same view is simply not acceptable - as ever though we don't know if true or untrue?

Sounds to me that GJ presumed this fan was giving him the V's when all he was doing was a 4-4-2 motion with his hand (from what I can tell from this thread)

In which case surely CCTV footage in the Atyeo can clear this guys name and get him a swift apology and a free match ticket from the club

Must admit from our position in the Williams, Atyeo End it looked like GJ was requesting to the stewards that he wanted a certain spectator removed as presumably the FEE PAYING supporter (who incidentally pays your wages Johnson) was indicating that he was not to impressed with the first half performance or the standard of entertainment WHICH CAN ONLY BE DESCRIBED AS DIRE.

If as it presently appears that under Herr Johnsons orders one of our fellow supporters was ejected by one of our storm trooper friends then it is NOTHING SHORT OF A DISGRACE and I sincerely hope that GJ publicly apologises.

One of the same storm troopers who appeared to go and have a "quiet" word in Brian Laws shell like in the second half when it also appeared all he was doing was standing legitimately in his technical area minding his own business. Laws face was a picture.

Before anyone jumps on MY back I have been one of GJ's staunchest supporters through thick and thin but he must NOT be allowed to become bigger than legitimate criticism.

For the sort of money and length of contract that GJ is on he must be aware that WE THE FANS WILL BE SUPPORTING THE REDS LONG AFTER HE HAS GONE and behaviour like this will in the long term do him no favours.

Well to add my 2 pence worth. I saw it all as I sit just above the tunnel and the guy in question used to sit near me. He was shouting for 4-4-2 and Gary pointed him out to some stewards then he disappeared down the tunnel bellow me. The stewards didn't seem to know what they were doing. Saw him at the end in the ground so I guess they just had a quite word.

I will add that the guy shouldn't have been kicked out for that and wasn't but he is the only person that I have heard racially abuse anyone at the gate in the last 15 years. So in my opinion he walks a thin line at the best of times and hasn't sat near us since his racial abuse moment - I thought the club was rid of him until today.

Ignoring the racial incident as it's no way related to today's incident - If GJ ordered this guy to be escorted out because he had the audacity to ask him to play 4-4-2, then somebody higher up seriously needs to have a word in Gary's shell-like ear!

GJ isn't beyond critism and must learn to take the rough (constructive critism) with the smooth. I've also noticed that when we win a home match, GJ is always the last down the tunnel, milking the applause the from all four stands, but when we don't win, he makes a bee-line straight to the tunnel.

Yes lets ignore the racist incident because that is irrelevant today I just didn't like the way that everyone on here was talking about him like he was some timid young guy that has been really hard done buy - the guy isn't exactly the nicest guy in the world was what I was trying to add to the debate.

Anyway yes today Gary seemed to be out of line if he requested for the guy to be removed.
