Oh the good old days....

I remember the forum with all that yellow text on it.No user names just type and go!!! Then we got upgraded to a similar format as this. Then came the post Death threat to Pullis era of PM's and More than One forum.Thats when it all kicked off with the very first forum meets in ashton park.

About ten of us went to the first one,had a few games of footy then pool in wedlocks.Ted Pitman,FKR,Red Gal,Big red Rich,Loud and Proud-they were the days.

Anyone got a copy of the photos that were taken back at those original meetings?

I can remember the tremendous "rows" between Richieb and the OFP. - Old Forum Police... :PC_Plod:
I can remember an unsubstantiated and ultimately totally incorrect rumour from the RMU - Rumour Maker Upper...

I forget his name, but his RS ('reliable' source), turned out to be full of BS.

My memorys are as follows being asked why I changed my first user name

to something different that was november 2000

One of the forum members asking me why I had changed to a different name

The person concerned still posts on here

I was on the twentyman talks back show with Scott davidson and asked why the radio Bristol LIVE match commentry could not be broadcast around the world on the interenet

An audio tape I still have, how the paceof the world has changed

On the same show I asked Scotty how he managed to get BCFC as the the sight address for Bristol City

He said that he asked his friend/agent/mate to get the domain name of

BCFC.co.uk

His friend/agent/mate said the domain name had been allocated

Scotty said who has the domain name?

His mate said some one by the name of "Scott Davidson"

Seems as if Scotty had registred the user name BCFC.CO.UK and had forgotten about it

Ah. The early battles of words with some who still post on here and the battles Richieb had with just about everyone

There were some good fights on here in the old days (sighs) - but you try telling the kids of today that..

Yeah, the kids would never believe you, would they m.8.? :sad56:

The thing is, I can't even remember which side I was on. :)

And what happened to that Ted Pitman? He never posts on here any more.

Edit: Aaaarhh. The original forum never changed your words for you!

Oh yes. I remember those 'good ole days'.

Rather nostalgically, and with no apologies made for sounding like an old fart ( I am 33), I recall:

Proper debate - sometimes carried on over the course of many days.

No stupid catagories

No need for stupid catagories because we never had questions such as 'what colour hair do you all have'

No posting of replies such as 'I agree'. If people had something to say - they said it. If they simply agreed, they shut up.

Many of the old characters - too many to mention.

Correct grammar. No bloody 'text' vocabulary i.e. c u tomorrow mate aaarrrgh

I also used to greatly look forward to some of the 'rows' that took place. Particularly those that involved Richie B. You may not have agreed with him, but boy, was he prepared to fight his corner.

Happy days.

Talking about Richie B, I think the first time that we crossed swords was in the good old TFG vs. 'brand name' row....

I see what you mean about debates lasting ages. That one went on for weeks (even culminating in Richard Gould having to confirm that the kits are produced just outside of Glasgow and not in sweatshops if I remember correctly  )

Come to think of it there is something that doesn't seem to happen any more - thankfully.

Some of you may recall that quite a few of the forum members quit in a huff, over rather stupid disagreements with other forum members.

Strangely they would announce their retirement.

Two days later - they were back.

P.S. We all knew that they hadn't really abstained from the forum. The lure was too great. They were all secretly looking at it without posting.....see....we knew all along.

I remember that!!

All those, I'm going to leave now messages, hoping for sympathy or something. But they never got it, did they.

Luckily, and hopefully, we don't seem to get any of those posters anymore.:huh:

I think that's common to all forums. There's always those that seek attention, and they live for people telling them not to go because they're a really valued member

Must kill them when nobody does  :P

Still happens occasionally on here as well

As for the old days, I can't really comment as I've only been a regular for 2 years or so. The furthest back I can remember is the board that eventually ended up being "hi-jacked" every few weeks, and everybody moaning because they lost their post counts and some of the ratings from others.

Thank god that bit isn't incorporated on this one

I can remember back to about 1998, the days when no username was required and all sorts of ridiculius rumours were circulated through people claiming to be associated with the club. In particular i seem to remember being continually told via the forum that Mickey Bell was off in a big money move. 6 years on, he;s still here!

We've got a few updates planned for early June, which will see the long awaited threaded mode kick in

That's good news Tom.

As for the back-up of the original forum, I believe snapshots can be accessed via archive.org

Folk are nostalgic for the old forum because there was a frontier feel to such things around five years ago. Also there was a lot more to argue about!
