gater2
Was just wondering if there are any other non-Bristolian City fans out there? Having grown up in Oxford, my dad took me to City when I was growing up and the doomed love affair began. I would say I was just as passionate as most City fans, but I often feel I might have missed some of the experience having never lived in Bristol myself. Does that make me 'less of a fan' do you think? I must admit, although I love going to games (can't make as many as I'd like unfortunately), I always feel like a little bit of an outsider. Would be interested to see if there's anyone else here who's a passionate City fan, but has never lived in Bristol?

Ison
I was born in Chelmsford and moved to Bristol when I was about 7. I don't think it matters where you're originally from - once you get the bug that's it for life as far as I'm concerned. I should add that I think you have to start supporting a team for the right reasons rather than just glory. I both dislike and feel sorry for people from Surrey and supporting Manchester United. On the one hand they're tossers and yet on the other it's kind of sad that they'll never get that thrill of supporting a real team. Anyways I digress, I consider myself to be as passionate and have just as much right to be a City fan as someone who's lived in BS3 for their whole lives. CiderEagle
Sarf Lunnon born and bred, grew up supporting Crystal Palace, a club I understand many City fans now rate as their second favourite team. Worked in Bristol for a while, went to both City and Rovers and there was just something about the atmosphere at City I really liked. I live in North Devon and with two young daughters with an interest in footy, the nearest decent club to take them wasa toss-up between Plymouth and Bristol - and the missus is from Exeter so it could never have been the 'muff. As to being a diehard - well, possibly not as much as those who are Brizzle born and bread but I AM going to see the Wurzels play at the Birdman Festival in Ilfracombe on Sunday if that counts ? http://www.ilfracomberoundtable.co.uk/

AshtonTate
Born and raised in Toronto. Moved to Barnstaple, Devon as a latter day school boy. Father is a die hard Man U fan but made a mistake taking me to my first game at the gate and I've never looked elsewhere since. Dad bought more than a sensible number of Man United shirts with Cantona on the back for me but I only had eyes for Leroy Lita. Am now living in London and get to maybe 15 games a year COYR

gater2
I think the real test will come if I have any boys, if I'll be able to get them to be City fans.. Moved to Cornwall when I left school and carried on getting stick from argyle fans. Now living in Taunton. EmersonsKev
I am Bristolian by birth but was brought up in Lancashire however my old man is a Yorkshire man. My father and I get funny looks and comments in the pub usually along the lines of "your not bristolian" to which I fiercely rebuff. I am a very proud Bristolian. As for the old man his usual comment is, Yorkshire man by birth, Lancastrian by upbringing but Bristolian by choice.

Tim S
Im not Bristolian - born in Leeds, grew up in Essex and moved to Bristol when I was 7 (so I guess Im more Bristolian than anything else as Ive lived here the longest). Was never really into football when I moved to Bristol then my dad took me to a City game and a Rovers game because he was trying to decide which team to choose. Initially he chose Rovers because they won and City didnt - so I chose City just to annoy him! As it was his duty to escort his son to matches he had no choice but to come to City games, in the end he saw the light and decided to support City and the rest as they say... is history! ralphindevon
I have supported City from Minehead in West Somerset when growing up and I know what you mean about being a bit of an outsider. I then lived in Bristol for 20 years and I can tell you it is different. Things are a lot more intense when living and working in the City, I would have City and Rovers friends and the same with customers and so would be talking all things Bristol football most days. I now live in southern France and once again feel a tiny bit of an outsider when I'm at games, even though I know I've watched City on more grounds than most people around me. My advice would be to be make sure you start your day in a pub near the ground, that way you pick up the gossip and vibe. At the end of the day you are as much a City fan as the rest of us. COYR.
