Anyone on here REALLY shocked by how the season has kicked off?

To be completely truthful, I would have been staggered if today I was listening to commentary describing where we are creating tons of chances, cutting their defence apart, making runs down the wings and sending in crosses from the touchline and busting the onion bag.

How could it be any different? Just because Maynard had a preseason people thought it might be different.

Shame I'm going to be out tonight I love the optimistic posters putting a whole new glaze over the inefficiencies of the team. I wonder what it'll be tonight, probably something along the lines of we have had to travel more miles in our pre-season friendlies than Ipswich and we look tired.

I am not asking for much, just a new centre back or two... please.

So did Keith until he suddenly decided he is in fact happy with what he has but is just short of numbers. No connection with his inabllity to sign anybody of course.:innocent06:

Some fans will always have blind faith and regard anybody with doubts as a traitor. Much more worrying when the manager is similarly blind.:disapointed2se:

Yeah good one Millie....wait until 3-0 before you make a change.

Midfield over ran and bossed all day before he finally makes a change and brings on our new midfielder.

Watching this, no wonder Maynard won't sign and I don't blame him. The powers that be will not free up any funds for new players so he can clearly see we have no ambition.

Pathetic City. Absolutely pathetic

Come on, if anyone is surprised by this then look at the line ups of the two teams! If you're still surprised then maybe football aint your thing!

Why was the elusive, ages to wait for, creative midfielder, Kilkenny, not on from the start? Sometimes mind games are just a load of tosh and leaving this guy on the bench is because, he is not our best option? so why buy him when we hear it week in and week out.. we will not bring players in who do not improve what we have. strange one that for me.

Not Keith's fault the tap has been turned off but selection, tactics, organisation and motivation are down to him. Not a promising start and pretty much identical to our first home game last season. If he is the great coach he is said to be it is about time we started to see the evidence surely?

Is this a case of the manager allowing his heart to rule his head by his loyalty to Marv and Cole, instead of using his head and selecting Kilkenny from the start?

So with the next 2 games Cardiff away and Leicester away, we should'nt expect anything from those games?, so when should we expect a result?.

Don't expect anything from those games at all, mind you thought that before today's debacle. Probably expect a result against one of the division's very poor teams, but only if they're having a bad day!

But if we are going for promotion as Keith claims should we not be able to match them? Surely Keith meant what he said?:innocent06:

That may be the case but nobody should lose 3 nil at home in the first game of the season. These are usually close tense affairs.

As I said when Millen was appointed, he's an assistant manager at best, he doesn't have the connections to make decent signings and he's not tactically smart.

I'm expecting relegation battle this season and if I'm told "oh stop complaining" then I'll simply laugh off the fact that whilst some say our fans are moaners, some would say our other fans are happy to go no-where.

Not sure why Keith, or we, would expect the same bunch of players to have turned into world beaters over the summer.. Strange that the one substantive signing we have made does not make the team mind you. More of the same seems to be the master plan then. If you always do what you've always done you'll always get what you've always got. :disapointed2se:

I was going to write something along these lines but this guy's absolutely nailed it. Anyone who expected anything from this fixture is completely deluded. A) we're as shit as ever and B) they're not. We need to be looking seriously at beating teams like Doncaster and Peterborough (forget their performances today) for the points that keep us in this league, not competent teams like Ipswich who will be comfortably top-half/playoffs come the end of the season. Anything else is a bonus.

The problems are the same as they were last season, no new players = no different performances. You can't polish a turd.

We will win some and lose some, I fully expect to be safe this season and see where Keith takes us next season when he will have chance to get his squad together. I can't blame Millen at all until he is picking from his squad, end of this season there will be somewhere in the region of 8 players out of contract, we will see what sort of team and playing style he can bring to the field then.

Are you telling us we've been lied too?

Haha! To send out essentially the same dross as last year with the aim of promotion would only be spoken of by a madman!

no offence mate but thats off the mark - the squad and wage bill is too big. its 100% correct that the board want the dead weight gone before millen buys yet more players. we needed to get 3+ senior pros off the books this summer, haven't managed to offload a single one, and still got 4 new signings. no blame to be aimed at the money men.

3 defensive mistakes, yes - but clearly they're not playing too badly with these stats?. Opening day lads, jeez- we're not 9 points adrift with 3 games to go.... lighten up (it's borderline 'prozac required' in here)

You build from the back first. Instead Mills went out and bolstered the other end of the park, now his tap has been turned off he will have to reap what he has sewn.

two tough away games coming up... we'll be bottom all month now you wait. Maybe this is player power.

Your stats wrap up what we all know.. we are fine up front and crap as horse dung at the back.

The most problematic player today seems not to be in defence but between the sticks.

Of course, we dare no criticise him because "we're lucky to have him" "he was England's number one" etc etc.

Maybe we should sign Shilton...

whether you like it or not, without money men dipping into their pockets, we will have to shift Maynard and buy some defenders... the fact that we are still talking about the same deficiencies a year on is unbelievable ... poor, poor, management at all levels...

I cannot imagine why Maynard would sign a contract when he knows the same old dross are going to be automatic choices this year and there is no chance of fulfilling his ambitions here. No good the club saying stay, we want to build a promotion side around you when you cannot back that claim up with action to improve the rest of the team. So yes, stop trying to con him, sell him and use the proceeds elsewhere.

3-0? Fo0king hell, deep down i new we would get a hiding today dont know why i even tryed to join the happy clapping brigade..

Personally and yes im going to stick my head on the line Millen is not the man. Time for a change, not a knee-jerk reaction just the cold hard truth IMO.

....yet he gave a one year contract to a disabled 34 year old?

The powers that be need to invest or we will go down. Lansdown is still owner and if he wants to own a championship club he is going to have to free up the funds.

This club is a shambles, from top to bottom

"David James is Past it" Shock Horror Headline.....................He should be down on his retirement farm in Devon feeding his chickens......... could have let young whippersnapper Henderson start between the sticks........but theirs no fool like an old fool..........pack up your Zimmer David, and thanks for the memories

Certainly has been heart warming to read all the optimists in the close season. Never enough to change my view though. Such a damn shame we have to start off with such a shambolic start to this season. There are NO excuses.

millen has never been the man for me and im sticking to it, should have left with johnson when gj was in charge how many goals did we conceed ...lots regularly then for months on kept letting in goals in the last 5 minutes , has had all summer to replace caulker sticks with jamie mac who gets outpaced by an opposition attacker then brings him down resulting in a yellow card, carey should never have been given contract extension and whilst james makes a couple of worldy saves comes out when he really shouldnt sometimes !! and then first game comes around and its the same team from last year who couldnt defend ggrrrr

sack millen after one game isn't a knee-jerk reaction then?

So you think he is the man then? Todays result is largely irrelevant to what i just said ive thought this personally ever since he got the job, i dont think he is good enough and nor do the majority of us if we are truly honest.

Says it all really doesn't it, 4 shots on target, 3 goals, Bristol City have 5 on target and not a single goal, I'd say it's not just our defence that is crap.

I never did think he was the man for the job. As someone else has already pointed out, he's an assistant manager at best.

All he is capable of doing is sending 11 men to kick the ball about aimlessly (which i could do) with no real tactics, and on occasion something will happen where miraculously it all comes together and they win the odd game. Nothing gets learned from one game to the next.

Folks on here posted that Hunt was one of the best (sorry BETTER) defenders during pre-season. Where is he today? All I heard commentary-wise from today's shambles of a defence was long aimless hoof-ball clearances and huge mistakes.
