Red Robin
When you look back over the years the money that has been wasted is huge.Players purchased and hardly played, players on loan hardly played. It must be a mind boggleing amount of money. Players like Stewart,Hunt,Cisse,Stead, all earning vast amounts of money, yet not playing regular football. Players who have come on loan, that have not ,or are not playing. Any other business could not afford to run their operation in this way,You can see why so many clubs are on the brink of collapse. SL must have deep deep pockets, simply without him backing the club,I am sure we could end up like a pompey.

Riaz
Not to mention Lee Trundle! Never rated trundle - but he was a key player towards the end of the play-off season. His goal against crystal palace alone - paid for his transfer fee.
redcherryberry
What about the 600k on Sproule & 800k on Clarky? Makes me cringe.

Red-Robbo
Trundle wasn't utilised by Johnson properly and that's why he wasn't a huge success at City. He was at the end of his career. That's why he was playing in the League of Wales a few months later.
Jordan Tansley
What about the 600k on Sproule & 800k on Clarky? Makes me cringe. Sproule was a good value buy, lot of games and some important goals
Riaz
Trundle wasn't utilised by Johnson properly and that's why he wasn't a huge success at City. He always looked over-weight to me.... apart from that run of games where he played well - he looked in good shape and fit.
22A
Thats football! Tis true! Spending works both ways; 1989 Carl Shutt was transferred to Leeds and for an extra £175,000 their Bob Taylor came to Bristol. The following season, both players scored vital goals that helped their new clubs to promotion. Bob Taylor left at the end of January 1992 for £300,000 1990 Mark Gavin went to Watford and City received Wayne Allison plus £100,000. In December 1991 City signed Mark Gavin for a second time at a cost of £65,000.
Sniper
What about the 600k on Sproule & 800k on Clarky? Makes me cringe. We have a very big (average) squad and it's buy's like these that are the reason. Instead of wasting 1.4 Million for these 2 bench warmers, we should have spent the 1.4 Million on 1 good quality player and paid them the joint salary. If we'd had done this a few more times we'd have a smaller squad with the same financial outlay and maybe some players that can actually play a bit. It's QUALITY not QUANTITY that's needed at the end of the day.
