M*ynard In Today's Football League Paper

It's a bit unrealistic for any player to be expected to give a MOTM performance and be the catalyst for City every week.

Especially when Albert played through injury for several weeks after he was hacked down at Coventry.

As for Maynard, the dream sold to him by GJ was the exposure of playing in the Championship along with a huge hike in wages.

In return City hoped for promotion, and if not, enough scoring success for Maynard as an individual so that we could sell on for a good profit.

If you're asking me to defend the manner of Maynard's departure, or agree that it was entirely understandable, then forget it.

It's not going to happen.

As for Albert stalling or being completely selfish when the time comes, indeed we will see, and I'll be happy to continue the conversation then.

With the service Maynard got at this club he has an amazing scorer record, agree or disagree

Or did he score so many great goals by making them him himself?

Good record, agreed.

If he'd scored a few more of the many easy chances he contrived to miss it might have been 'amazing'. As it was the only amazing thing is how he missed some of them!!

After giving Maynard his chance to progress his career and escape lower league football and hugely increase his wages, and with a stated aim to change club policy to take a chance on younger players with sell on potential, City have every right to feel aggrieved at the way Maynard exited the club,

Agree or disagree?

Crewe are who i feel sorry for they produced like many a good footballer Maynard, he owes us nothing, we paid what ever for him he has done a job in a City shirt with limited service, we did not but him at 18/19, big difference there. Your comment of how he missed them easy chances sums you up.

:dunno: No real need for that comment.

Maynard scored some wonder goals for City, no argument, but there's no denying he missed easy chances as well.

Crewe did miss out - and you seem to agree that Maynard should feel guilty about that - but so did City, so if you feel sorry for one it stands to reason to have sympathy with the other.

Crewe at least received a bigger fee than City and they didn't pay him the enormous wages that we did.

One party did exceptionally well out of the transactions and for some reason you seem to have sympathy for him.

You think he 'owes us nothing', however the club expected to make a profit if they ever sold on this unproven young lower league player, that's one reason they were willing to take a huge gamble on him in the first place.

We are both Bristol City fans so it's surprising that one of us is arguing from a position of supporting Nicky Maynard first and foremost, rather than having the best interests of BCFC at heart.

Apologise for that sums you up comment, not supporting Maynard putting it from the other side, which makes a good debate imo.
