I have given him stick but the guy was fantastic tonight. Worked his socks off and the finish was class. Really well done to the lad.

+1 I too have given him loads of stick last season. He deserves alot of credit for his great display tonight, worked hard, passed confidently, scored and got stuck into the tackle. MoM in my opinion. Well done Martyn Woolford!

May all you Woolford bashers hold your head in shame. Some us, those who know their football predicted that Woolly would show what he can do this season and tonight he was fantastic.

Good job that McInness knows a good player when he sees one.

The people that thus far commented have quite clearly stated they have previously slated him and have openly ''taken their medicine'' so to speak. Why do you have to antagonise AGAIN on such a brilliantly positive night? Bore off!!

I was the main wolly basher. Did he ever prove me wrong tonight. He had a good pre season too. Like a different bloke. Well done wooly.

Just pointing out that I (and some others) told you so.

Its about recognising a good player when you see one, even if they are going through a dip in form.

That's nice and smug of Robbored, next time instead of eating humble pie I will just bow down to your superior (if not condescending) knowledge of all things BCFC.

MOM by a long, long, way tonight. Was everywhere and involved with everything that was good about City. Full of energy, his movement was fantastic and only one misplaced pass all night plus he took his goal brilliantly. Hopefully some of the boo boys will be converted. Well done to the lad and more of the same please !

Why not have a mass head hanging session the Foster doubters, the Carey given another year doubters, the Skuse doubters, the Albert doubters, the Pearson doubters, the Taylor doubters, the Stead doubters, the DMC doubters, the SL doubters.......................................................

Name a player they have NOT slagged off over the past year?

I'll hold my hand up to being a bit of a Wooly basher. Couldn't make it tonight (typical) but so glad to hear he's had a good game. He's clearly a nice lad and I'm pleased he put in a good performance for us - lets face it he's had a fair few bad ones. Let's hope he keeps it up consistently for us now, I'll be delighted to be proved wrong about him!

Always. If I'm wrong I have no problem admitting it, although its hard to remember the last time I was actually wrong.......

If you can't remember something that happened recently and so often, you probably should go straight to the GP. It's probably early onset dementia, which would explain quite a bit.

I really doubt he gives a toss what you think

Tell him on Twitter, fella!

Nice to see the lad live up to what we know he could do. And Mo Farrah probably ran less than he did tonight. Back and forward - even Albert was several kilometres behind, I reckon.

He showed signs at the end of last season, and at Birmingham in particular he was very impressive. He then followed it on in the friendlies this season and in the few I saw he looked extremely promising. I don't want to go to over the top as at the end of the day it was only one game, but he was fantastic. Never stopped running, looked quality when he had the ball and what can you say about his goal? World class finish!

I love Wooly! Such a great guy when I've seen him around Portishead and in town and I think these 'haters' had really got to him. He was the best player on the park tonight and proving how good a player he is, can float around more than an out and out winger like Albert. Chuffed for him, hopefully he'll be able to keep it up and keep the confidence going!

As a BCFC fan I hope any player that we sign, turns out to be everything we hoped for and the manager obviously expected they would be. One great game and now we need more and a consistency throughout the season, a few more goals.

Fair play to DMC for persevering with him even when his improvement appeared to be only fairly modest until now. I suspect that Woolford last night was more like the Woolford that DMC sees on a daily basis on the training ground and I also suspect there must be more to come, like pushing himself forward to take the more dangerous free kicks (after all he did arrive with a reputation as a dead ball specialist) something we are crying out for.

Hopefully the confidence will return and that will bring consistency.

Again hopefully not only Woolford but also the squad as a whole will gain that consistency if they are looking up in the league rather than always looking down it will allow them to play without nerves.

There are some idiots on here.

Woolford was excellent last night and the fact that he features in an all time S****horpe 11, would suggest he has something about him.

But lets not act all pious and hollier than thou. From the moment he arrived, i'm afraid he's ranged from average to down right awful. If you've knocked in the past and said he was sh!t, it's because he genuinely was, so don't feel bad as i certainly don't.

I hope this is a turning point and that someone i initially had high hopes for, does come good.

But i will certainly not be eating any humble pie.

'He used to be sh!te, but now he's alright......'

As you've just unintentionally confirmed.

Genius! Shall i type the same or is that just a really old forum joke? All i'm saying is what's the point of pretneding you are in some way better than other people? If before Woolford signed, everyone slagged him off, but he was amazing then you have case. If he signs, is then useless on many occasions, you can hardly be surprised if people don't rate him. When some 18 months or more later he appears to perform to his potential, it doesn't prove anyone wrong.

Perhaps I'm missing your point, and if I am I apologise, but equally I don't think you understand what I'm saying either.

The issue is not whether or not Woolford's performances in the past have been disappointing - which they sometimes have - or whether criticism was valid - which it was, some of the time.

It's the tone of the criticism that has often been deplorable. Some of the posts about him have been quite unnecessarily abusive. Unless I've read you wrongly, you appear to be saying this is a perfectly OK thing to do and nobody has anything to apoligise for. I'm saying it isn't OK and that it typifies much that is wrong with the forum, which is why I thought your opening remark was unwittingly ironic.

The thing is Woolford has looked this good all pre-season!! This isn't just a one off game. He could of had a few more vs Bournemouth. Well done Woolford, I've not really said anything on here, but I did gave a bit of a groan about him at the ground and he looks a different player this year.

He fully deserved to cup his ear against the EE, and it shows that the comments that we make on here, twitter, or wherever it may be does actually affect the players in question. So in turn, I think we should all, as fans maybe take some of the blame for his bad form last season. Just another reason for us to get behind every member of the squad whether they're on form or not. We as fans hold the key to success.

I'll take the hook and bite........

Probally about this time last year when you continuously supported Teflon.....
