I seen somewhere (not sure where know) that the rules state that covers have to be off at least 3 hours before kick-off. Could be wrong though.

According to the deadsite the pitch was fine before it was covered:

'The coverings will be left on until as late as possible tomorrow, with heavy downpours expected throughout today and in the morning.

However, as things stand the pitch is in a perfectly playable state.'

as it says on the o/s pitch perfectly playable at the moment so as long as the covers do their job then shouldn't be any doubt

obviously that it is not pissing it down after the covers come off because forecast changing a bit

instead of stopping around 1-2 pm now gonna be showers after heavy stuff stops continuing but brighter also

We should be pleased that the MCC aren't running the show. I've been to cricket matches where there's been no play all morning, then the rain stops and the umpires decide to take tea at 3pm before inspecting the pitch thus further delaying the start of play. It's comical.

Indeed. A decision would be made based on the forecast. If no rain, covers would come off to allow pitch to breath. Don't forget the players will need to come out to warm up and stretch off
