Heaton To Burnley....

Awfully harsh. Had a dire defense in front of him and kept us in quite a few games (even if temporary) and kept the score down with a string of saves.

When he goes, good luck to him at Burnley.

Heaton's a tricky one for me. Definitely a very good shot stopper. In the air he improved after looking weak on crosses early on. His distribution was ok from hand but a poor kicker.

What none if us can comment on is how good he was at organising his back line and installing confidence in them. That's where the big question mark remains for me as we've never defended as badly as this season... Has Heaton played a part in that? I genuinely don't know.

This could well be true, maybe he didnt install confidence in Fonts and Co. due to poor organisation.

I just think it will be a loss to lose him as he would be a good player to keep in L1, be interesting to see SO'D replaces him with now.

I would be quite happy to see a completely different back 5 next season, in fact a completely different starting 11 would be good.

The people saying we should have tied Heaton up earlier are being a bit naive thinking he would signed anything before knowing what division we would be in.

A bit if a shame but it frees up some wages and allows O'Driscoll a bit more flexibility to bring his own players in. I suspect that with all the new FFP rules, clubs will try to manage with only 2 keepers in future rather than 3. Maybe a main keeper and a youngster on the bench. Should be plenty of options out there though.

In League one we will need a keeper who can command his 6 yard box and come for crosses.

Heaton is a good shot stopper but in no way a commander of his 6 yard box.

I lost count of the number of goals we conceded from headers inside the 6 yard box this season.

Which is why Flapper lost his place at AG, great shot stopper very very poor at commanding his area

Who organised his defence with tremendous efficiency and compared to Phillips, commanded his area like Seaman!!!

Was reckless at times in his attempt to command his area, came and missed to often for me, but a distinct improvement on Phillips. I believe there is a distinct lack of great keepers these days even Hart can be reckless at times in his 6 yard box and he appears untouchable in our international set up.

I prefer a keeper that comes and misses than one that dithers. At least the defence know what to expect, and defenders can try to accommodate a cock up.

I think Hart is untouchable, as you alluded to, the standard of keeping has been on the decline. He is head and shoulders above the other pretenders. And if I am honest, I'm not sure ability wise, he would have been 2nd choice 15 years ago, more likely 3rd choice. Sad state of affairs in a art form the English used to be great at.

i'm not so sure, there was a debate the other week after a match I watched and the decision there is a fine line, times to come times not to, but if you do come, come with conviction, I cannot recall the likes of Banks, Shilton or Clemence coming and mission too often.

Bud does that sound like the script of a porn film?.

This... Glad someone else spotted it. I think this could be blessing in disguise.

Were such a laughing stock. Surely you don't release the 2 back up keepers unless your certain the Player you want is going to sign.

Absolute Joke!!

Why do people insist on using this phrase?

SOD had obviously decided he didn't want the 2 back up keepers come what may and he offered Heaton a deal which he knew he might not accept. Do you seriously believe there aren't other irons in the fire?

We needed a centre back over 12 months ago, even SL alluded to it as a main factor of our relegation and we are still waiting, this is BCFC we are talking about.

That's the whole point of this new database, so when we get situations like this, we have a list of 3-4 players to go for. I'm sure Burt has been checking out people since January knowing that Heaton may reject a new deal if we went down.
