Once again I find myself astonished by the hatred shown by Swindon fans towards us on their forums and other social media outlets. This isn't a 'wind-up' aimed at their fans, I just personally could not care less about this 'rivalry'. Obviously I want a win, but it's not different from any other game. Obviously it is a local game but no rivalry exists between the two clubs in my eyes. Cardiff and Rovers, that's it for me. Maybe it's because it's been so long since we played them, hence the reason why I don't really understand their hatred towards us.

Try explaining their rivalry with Gillingham then, another bizarre one.. they are a weird bunch.

It's the fact that they really believe they are the biggest club in this region

It's based on Don Rogers the odd Wembley jolly and their one and only top flight season when they didn't exactly cover themselves in glory by conceding 100 goals.

They kept forgetting that they've been close to or in administration so many times and had more owners that a second hand Ford fiesta, in a crumbling ground with a crumbling fan base

Each new owner comes along with their grand ideas which falls flat because the public of Swindon don't really want a football club and you can't blame them as Reading Oxford and Bristol are all close by.

I think their local media some them up by calling them "town" which sums them up really - small and inconsequential.

Massive club, big fan base but couldn't sell their allocation

You've never sold yours at AG as long as I remember, doesn't usually get past the 1500 mark... 2,483 is decent for tomorrow.

Edit:- And I am sure more would've turned up if it had been made POTD as well but it hasn't so that's the figure.

thats because of your history in the town otherwise you could have paid on the day, I disagree your following should have been better considering the size of the club and that we haven't played each other in the league for seven years. As for the numbers we take to Ashton Gate have you ever thought they may be put off because of the hooligans that follow your great team as the numbers we take to other clubs much further away are alot more and with the trouble recently against Rovers just adds to it

300 less than the allotted allocation isn't actually bad in all honesty.

And lets be fair now, you droning on about trouble?? Been to 600+ City games in my lifetime and have rarely seen trouble whatsoever. A very small percentage so that's just absolute drivel. What trouble with Rovers? You mean the pitch invasion by a bunch of predominately kids? Total over-reaction.. wasn't like they were battering people with baseball bats now is it?

How you perceive it, didn't think it was bad as others that I have seen in the past.. but then I don't get hysterical over a pitch invasion with a small amount of fans. Most were congratulating the players for a derby win and a small minority took it too far.

Rivals for 3 points, for 90 minutes, tomorrow. Then they're just another league one team, until the return. On which day they'll be rivals for 3 points, for 90 minutes. Then just another team again. Til the next meet. Not spoken to anyone who sees them any different. Not really spoken about tomorrow until today.

Got to say, think Swindle village's support is pretty good, against us. And generally. Though was surprised their play off game v. Brentford was lower than I expected, not a sell out, think? Not surprised we haven't sold out, not overly enticing fixture, other than proximity of the place. And we're struggling, right now. They always seem a bit more excited about coming here/ playing us. Well done. Not sure they will manage the level of singing and excitement of our recent neighbourly visitors, though. They were something else!

Also bound to say, swidnon had an excellent team 20 years ago, when they had Hoddle and Ossie Ardiles, that diamond formation, with Alan wassisname in the hole (that's a technical, football term. Not a derogatory reference to the old town). Went to see them once, v. Leeds, at that time Stood in the covered end. Was half full of bloody Leeds fans, who were marched, all together, up the other end. A very attractive side for a while, they were fortunate to have that. We'll leave aside all the cheating and swindling.

Also been many times to see City there, including the surprise win just before Big Joe left in 1990.

Understand that for those who live Wilts way, work with swin fans, it means bit more. But generally, just 3 points to contest tomorrow. Then, next!

Swindon fan here, reading this thread with interest. It seems some of your fans class us as rivals and others don't, which is pretty much the same as it is with our fans.

It's true to say that some of our supporters class you as our main rivals, even ahead of Oxford, but they're mainly the ones who live in west Wiltshire and probably know a lot of City fans.

I'd say the majority of our support classes Oxford as our main derby with you as second, but most do class you as rivals to some extent.

Personally, I class Oxford, City, Rovers and Reading as rivals. I don't see why it has to turn into a competition as to who we 'hate' (in a football sense) the most!

Hoping for a full-blooded derby game tomorrow with a good atmosphere and of course a win for the Town.

I've never (fortunately) met a Swindon fan so that probably goes some way to explaining my position that I don't see Swindon as rivals. I view a game at Swindon as I do a game at Reading, easy to get to. It's the same with Plymouth who see us as rivals when I don't particularly....although I have met a lot more Janners than Swindon supporters.

For me the only rivals are Rovers & Cardiff.

Having lived there 10 years ago now, at the time I would've classed you as rivals but it pretty much wained when I left. However it has come back now we are in the same league but all in honesty its just for when we play each other. For me its always been Gas, Cardiff and at a push Plymouth.

:gasmask:

Shut up pig town. I hate Swindon so much even though they're not our rivals. In fact, I hate them so much I'm going to take time out of my evening to state they're not a rival and I hate them.

Do one.

go and visit your loal prison then and at the same time say hello to your gas mates :gasmask::gasmask::gasmask::gasmask::gasmask::gasmask::gasmask::gasmask::gasmask: :gasmask: b_40.pngb_40.pngb_40.pngb_40.pngb_40.pngb_40.pngb_40.pngb_40.pngb_40.pngb_40.pngb_40.pngb_40.png

I live in West Wiltshire and have to say that Swindon are far worse than Cardiff and are on par with the Gas! Think I may have already posted months back, they really do hate us!

So much respect for fellow west wiltshire city fans I am sure they experience the same kind of feeling towards swindon fans!

And put it this way when Rovers beat them 4-0 that time I just laughed, shut them up for weeks

Nothing more tragic in football than these one way rivalries. They really seem to hate us whereas most of our fans (other than those that live in and around Swindon) are indifferent to them.

Still, 2500 City fans should be a great atmosphere! COYR!

Me personally don't hate City at all and I follow their reults closely on a Saturdayand also on points west. The thing that I don't like is the small minirity of morons who constatly put us down as a small club and when ever they come to swindon they cause so much trouble in and around the town centre as if they've got a right to go around breaking windows and scratching innocent peoles cars along station road as they are escorted to the ground. Trust me I've been to many Bristol derbies and I've seen them running all over the place

With the Flint deal seemingly nearing conclusion, I've noticed Flint has been receiving a fair amount of abuse from Swindon fans for joining us, and they seem to be rather passionate in their hate for us. People on this forum have also claimed to receive stick from Swindon fans from whom they work with etc.

Now maybe it's just me, but I only really consider our actual rivalries to be with Rovers and the Red Dragons. Obviously Swindon, Yeovil etc are reasonably local and therefore give the games against each other a bit more of a competitive edge but I don't class either as our rivals.

Is it just me?

Couldn't agree more with that!
