'Orns
No way they make that much per year. Turnover for sure, but not profit. Weren't they in real trouble a few years ago and the local council bailed them out.....I suppose it helps if The King of Spain (not Ashley Giles) supports you as well. They will never go to the wall Got a soft spot for Tottenham, as my Dad was a fan, I'd snap their hands off. Build a new team for that money. But when Spain is financially crippled and they have unemployment at levels that we can't even begin to imagine it's completely obscene. GodEmperor Palpatine
Not good enough a few seasons back according to 'Arry Redknapp and was going to be loaned to the Championship... Now a bid of 85M from arguably the biggest club in the world... crazy I tells ya!!
CheddarReds
I know some on here don't have '2nd teams' but Spurs are my '2nd team'. I would accept this. Bale is good but not as good as Ronaldo, and 85M could buy spurs 4 champions league quality players something that they need.
Admin Ian M Posted July 30, 2013 Admin Report Share Posted July 30, 2013 I just think madrid are trying to unsettle the player and get him to put a transfer bid in, I don't think Bale can afford his fee unfortunately

Didn't he not win a game he started at Spurs in like 16 goes when he first played too? Come on massively, fantastic footballer. Needs to stop all that diving though

CheddarReds
150M? he has a release clause, I think. I can't remember how much though, sorry!
Brizzle Jordan
he has a release clause, I think. I can't remember how much though, sorry! He's not worth it though as I believe it's something stupid like 1 Billion or that may be someone else. I think 150M is what he's worth for his amazing ability. italian dave
Not much to them when they make 600M a year. 600M is their annual turnover - not profit (actually a little under) That's Euros, not pounds. £85m = £100m euros. I'd say that over one sixth of your annual turnover is a bit more than 'not much'!!
nebristolred
He only has a release clause as it's a requirement in the Spanish league. Ronaldo's is equally ridiculous at a billion or something.
David Brent
he has a release clause, I think. I can't remember how much though, sorry! Its £205M and was offered by Anzhi I believe. I honestly don't think Barca would accept any less than that.
Admin Ian M Posted July 30, 2013 Admin Report Share Posted July 30, 2013 Messi's release clause is €250m which currently equates to around £217.5m. PSG have threatened to trigger it if Barca don't stop tapping up Thiago Silva.
Brizzle Jordan
There is no point in any team bidding Messi's clause as he'll just turn them down given his love for Barca.
westred1
It's a bit shit for Spurs. Reject 85m and they'll be thought of as bloody stupid but accept it and they'll keep their mini tag as a selling club.

Real Madrid and Manchester United will always use them as a feeder club unfortunately.

MATT BCFC
Gotta be most overrated player ever. He's not even the best player in the premiership. Funny he almost joined Birmingham for 3 million in Jan 2009 window!
nebristolred
Don't think he's that overrated personally, he's a quality, quality player with every attribute going. It's not his fault or the media's fault that Real Madrid are willing to offer silly money. I agree about him not being the Premier League's best player though. Last season Juan Mata was just out of this world.

Scored so many stunning goals, won Spurs so many points on his own at times and was just the most exciting player to watch.
nebristolred
People always say this about the goals, comparing his goals per game average to the likes of Walcott and Suarez, but there's more to the game than goals. Bale was incredibly exciting to watch, and scored some incredible goals, and I don't begrudge him the player of the year awards at all, but Mata linked the team incredibly and his passing and movement was better than Bale's, it's just that's not the glory statistic.. Let's face it there's going to be some difference in opinion that will influence the final results. I just think in terms of being an all round player the best player last season was Mata personally, with Bale not far behind.

Real Madrid aren't rivals of theirs, surely it's a no-brainier.

Left Back Centre Back Left Winger Lloris Walker New Signing Vertonghen New Signing Paulinho Sandro Dembele/Holtby Lennon New Signing/Chadli Saldado That could still be a really great team with 3 top additions. The Batman
the problem that spurs will face is that clubs will know that they have £85 million in the bank So a player that could be valued last week at £15 million, can push up a bit more knowing spurs have the cash.
