chipdawg
Playing devils advocate, does Bale have a right to feel aggrieved? The most famous club in the world has bid a ludicrous amount of money for him, he wants to go but his current club aren't listening. I don't agree with him sulking in a corner and refusing to train, but in one respect you can see his point; it's not like Madrid are trying to short change Spurs is it?! No, but Stanley Matthews existed in a world before £85million transfers and £250k per week contracts- and I'm sure he would have been one of the most sought-after players of his era. Who knows what that amount of money and fame would have done to the man? I'm not saying I agree with Bales (alleged) actions, just that you can't really say Madrid aren't offering a more than fair price for him

Presuming the signings of Paulinho and Soldado are already accounted for, Spurs could get 3 more top quality players for that and I personally think would put them above Arsenal in terms of squad quality and into the champions league on a regular basis

jj77
Is it fair when a club wants to get rid of a player and accepts an offer from another club? If a player didn't want to move I'm sure a club would make it very difficult for him to stay. It can't all be one way. It's not like Bale is screwing over the club. He's basically turned them into a top four challenger single handedly and they would get their money back 10 times over.

Martinez has already set his stamp on Everton, they had the most possession on the opening day, they played 500 odd passes and torn Norwich apart and will improve, they've still got Baines and Fellaini and Barkley will have a great year. Hardly crazy. Everton overperformed under moyes. United will not give up on fellaini and / or baines. Really don't expect both of them to still be there September 1st. I'll give you that about Barkley, watched him against us away at Leeds last year and he was a class above. He'll wow a lot of people this year I think. As for Liverpool. Who knows if they will sign anyone else. Aspas and Alberto both wildcards. Could light it up or be more like a jovanovic signing. Hard to say. Best news all summer for them (Suarez aside) is getting rid of reina for mignolet. Just shows what lack of competition can do to a top player. Admittedly begovic did prevent a 4 or 5-0 battering on Saturday, but I do not expect Liverpool to keep it up over the course of the season, they simply don't have enough depth, too many youngsters and a manager that can get it 100% right occasionally but cannot get his team playing well consistently. Massive for them that Lucas is back for a full season though. Incredibly underated.

Tins
I've heard Wenger has bid £10.01 and a packet of wine gums.
CheddarReds
The money Spurs are spending has got to be Bale's fee. I could imagine a couple signings to try and make Bale stay but no, he's gone. With the dealing they've done and the squad Spurs have I think they'll make top 4 this year, with or without Bale.
