Why ?

If we produce two players (such as Bobby Reid and Joe Bryan for instance) then thats two players we don't have to recruit for transfer fees. If we produce three then even better...

We don't have to sell players for 1m+ to break even, just produce players for the first team.

Looking at some of the kids coming through, theres every chance that the academy will do that - providing Liverpool and Chelsea keep their hands off of course. Losing those two kids was a blow, but illustrates the level of kids coming through.

I'm not saying you have to sell the players but surely if 1 million is invested then there needs to be a million quids worth of talent coming put the other end each season. Like you say, if your best talent gets picked off before pro terms then its money down the drain. It's a big risk IMO to run an academy at your level. Look at Scott Sinclair as an example, we received next to nothing for him and its an example of how the premier league teams are protecting themselves from clubs like ours ever getting to the prem. parachute payments and the termination of the 90 min rule on youth players will kill off a lot of clubs.

Crewe earn on average of 1 million a year from youth players produced, but there chairman has said that the new rules will push them out of business as there is no point investing in youth now.
