Bedminster Born And Red
England Schools FA U18's v Republic of Ireland are to play at Ashton Gate - Friday 28 March 2014 England defeated Wales 2-1 in their first fixture at the Racecourse Ground. The opportunity for Chris Smalling to play for England Schoolboys in 2007 saw him scouted for Fulham before moving onto Manchester United and the full England senior squad. Hopefully other talented players will be on show, hopefully SC will be present. I'm guessing he will be stuck in some hotel in the Rotherham area. Bedminster Born And Red
Don't know, my question would be if he's any good, what's he doing at Rovers? What was Joe Hart doing at Shrewsbury? It's not where you start................
Nogbad the Bad
What was Joe Hart doing at Shrewsbury? It's not where you start................ He was born there and chose Shrewsbury Town over lesser Shropshire teams such as Chuch Stretton F.C., Market Drayton F.C. etc.

cheshire_red
Who remembers this one? 17 October 1956 - England 0 France 0 [0-0] Ashton Gate Stadium, Bedminster, Bristol (25,817) under floodlights HD England: Alan Hodgkinson, Don Howe, Graham Shaw, Stanley Anderson, Trevor Smith, R.Neal, Bryan Douglas, A.Jeffrey (C.Booth), V.Groves, A.Cheesbrough, Alan A'Court. The seventeen year-old Alick Jeffrey's second cap was marred by an accident nine minutes into this match. His right leg was fractured and the crack was heard by most of the watching crowd. This exciting new talent was forced to retire from the game, although he did achieve comeback years later

redcherryberry
Don't know, my question would be if he's any good, what's he doing at Rovers? That's CB Danny Haile. Plays for Glos U18s & has featured for their first team twice. Rovers signed him on a pre contract starting in the summer once he's finished his studies in Hartpury. Dont worry Nogbad, I dont think he's one that got away - not on tonight's performance anyway & Carlos Anton scouted him a few times & didnt fancy before the sags moved in. The star performer tonight was a lad called Daniel Bruce who was England No.7. He got MOTM as he did in his last game v Wales. Very impressive. Not sure if he's attached to a pro club or not but I know BT liked him.
22A
Garland did not play at AG for the U23s v Wales, but was called up for the 1970 match v Bulgaria at Plymouth. Although England won that game v Wales, it was a poor game with both sides looking dire for long periods. Funny coincidence; England failed to qualify for the 1974 & 78 World Cups when that U21 team were had progressed to the full team. They say small things stick in your mind. I remember some kids running up to the East Germany bench in that 1972 U23 match for autographs and being waved away, not by Stewards but by the East Germans themselves.
