Museum As Part Of Stadium Redevelopment

Don't know if this has been mentioned, but it seems we're going to have a museum as part of our stadium project.

Sounds good and would be nice to see the memorabilia on display. Obviously, could do with some more prestigious memorabilia to be won and displayed!

Anyway, a Bristol Sport Museum would be an interesting thing to see, then something for away fans ala Preston N.E.

It seems that Mr. Lansdown really is using Barcelona as inspiration to build the profile of the City and have us (the football club) at the forefront of something really positive! Good words mentioned by him pre k.o VS West-Ham.

Intriguing what may be used, the club could do no worse than wonder up Winterstoke Road and have a look around the three lions

Are you thinking what I'm thinking?...... whether Gerry Gow kept his moustache?

Other ideas that spring to mind are one of Buster's t-shirts, Gerrard Lavin's right boot (as warn at Reading) and getting one of our floodlights back off of Wigan (although an extension may have to be built in for that one).

Andy Butlers front teeth from when Clive Platt butted them out?!

How about David Partridge's prison mug shot?

The more interesting stuff in Barcelona's museum is the hostorical memorabillia like a frame containing a season ticket from every year they have been sold at the club.

The only comparison to Barcelona, Wolves, Preston, Liverpool, Chelsea etc. we don't have the trophies - we still have quite a history to share

A must visit AG matchday facility years ago was the old 'programme' shop/shack in the Williams car park.

Stacks and stacks of back issue programmes City (and most other teams too) were available ... They had some historic gems amongst that lot through the years.. So a big 'old program' display in the museum would be a good addition..

Don't suppose Ray Cashleys 'goal mouth to goal' ball is still knocking around anywhere?

Wooden rattles, bobble hat/scarf combo's -oldtime supporters matchday kit and caboodle.

Footballs/Football boots through the ages etc.

(Its part of footballing history so what about a 'black museum corner' containing stuff from the hooligan hay days? ... Maybe a couple of skinhead manikins fully dressed in the attire of the day, bracers Ben Sherman /Brutus check shirts.. Rolled up Levis,, tonic trousers, post code red vests, bomber jackets/Crombies etc.... And some if the items typically confiscated at turnstiles or used by thugs in and around grounds .. Wow eye openers for the young 'netters' of today when they see what their quiet old grand dads used to get up to at the football a generation it two ago.. God some of that 'weaponry' and missiles is pretty unbelievably vicious and stupid looking back... Good old BAD OLD days, .... Genuine terrace history though, as bad as it was it shouldn't be swept under the carpet in these sanitised days. Looking back can't be all rose tinted. Deserves a dark corner in any football museum.

A Harry Dolman (B.D.R's ?) designed/invented turn-stile, ...late sixties/early seventies HD & co introduced some kind of revolutionary turnstile (maybe to do with accuracy of crowd count, money collected etc).

Anyway Dolman invented something like that and it should feature in any BCFC museum.

Harry's company, Brecknell Dolmam & Rogers also designed and built City's first set of floodlights. They were pretty poor by modern standards and were fixed to a series of steel poles along the side of the pitch. From memory they were probably only as high as the old Wedlock. During a night match, any really high balls could disappear into the gloom.

Museum is a must, even if it's just a collection of old kits.

Ad a collector of old city shirts, I'd like to think that when my time is up, they could be given back to the club for the museum.

Would be good to see old shirts of now extinct teams that used to play in Bristol.

Bedminster. Bristol South End. Bristol Rovers. That kind of thing.
