How could have Stead in that instance have deliberately handled? The ball hardly ever gets handled "deliberately". But he controlled it with his hand in a place it shouldn't be. You can't play football on a cabbage patch like that. You get closed down on your touch, which is difficult enough on that pitch when you are not under pressure, and it makes you look awful.
