Mods, How Many People Use/ Post On Otib?

Just got back from the pub and being a sad tw*t, I looked up the number of posts over the past 24hrs (ish)

About 340 active users (people posting on a match day - not the number of viewers) over the past match day.

If this was to be compared to the number of active supporters who attend football matches (let's say about 14 000 for home matches), this is about 2%.

Does this answer your question BcfcRobbo?

Or are you after some other answer?

surely it's better to do it when it's not a match day,or otherwise there were more active people then were city fans at the game today

Robbo's question was about the number of users who use the site. Match day is the day to do this check because it's likely to be the day when most users comment.

A match day is likely to be the absolute max posting day.

BTW, half cut so probably not thinking this through carefully.

2% my ar*e.

Even if it's a minority you can safely extrapolate that it might be broadly representative, or that the key concerns of most fans might be raised here.

To suggest otherwise makes no sense.

Did you know when they calculate TV viewing figures they don't actually check with everyone who's watched what!

You say my arse as if its outlandish?

If try to drill down to regular users id say 2% is a good estimate.

I know a few of my mates look at it, but only 2 others regularly post.

The vast majority of my fellow city fans dont even look at this site.

Depends what you count as using the site?

I read the bbc website every day but have not even created an account to comment on stories (if they even do that anymore).

If you use the Member search and search by last online, over 1700 users have logged in during August. I suspect more people have read the site without logging in too seeing as the ratio of logged in users to guests is usually around 2:5.

There are over 13,000 registered users. Of course, not all of those will look at the forum every day/week. On the other hand, that figure doesn't include all those who just read the forum and are thus influenced by it, but have never registered.

The most users online at any one time was over 8,500.

So it does reach a large number of fans.

Looks like there are 11389 (as of 12:00 23rd August 2015) subscribed users.

4125 subscribers have never made a post (no idea why anyone would subscribe but not post?) so 36% of members have never posted.

7520 subscribers have posted less than 10 times, so about 66%

9542 subscribers have posted less that 100 times, so about 84%

In the past year, 912 have joined the forum. Of these 375 have posted nothing, 640 have made less than 5 posts.

Pick what you want out of those figures.

If I've got the inclination and time, I'll look at the other publicly available data and see if anything useful can be pulled out.

Question for the Mods.... How many 'active' posters/ users/ readers are there accessing this forum? Do you have any data that you could share with us?

It would be interesting to get an idea of what proportion of fans actually have anything to do with OTIB. There seems to be a perception on here that the forum is really important and that every fan uses it or at least reads it. I'd expect it to be far less than people seem to think but would be interested to know figures either way.

Tomarse might be the man for this?

I suspect that something like this would answer your questions BR:

http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?action=stats

The otib forum site appears to be run by a piece of Invision Power Services Inc software. Admins would probably have to ask IPS for this functionality if it's not already available to them. Otherwise, it would be down to someone scraping the data from the forum (not a particularly arduous bit of work), do a bit of data analysis and pop out some graphics. But why reinvent the wheel if this functionality already exists.

Actually I don't think it is the right day to do your check. I may be wrong but from my own observations it seems less busy on here on a matchday. Of course it's all rather subjective as it depends on what sort of match we have had or if there has been any controversial moments.

If we have a home game it's fair to say many posters are at the game at the pubs travelling etc so unlikely to post.

It's the weekend so most are spending time with their families or doing some leisure activities or socialising or even playing football or other sports.

I find most posts happen in the week when most people are at work and bored.

I may be wrong and the stats may not back up my claims but that's just how it feels to me.

There is also many people who read this site and do not post. This includes members and guests. Active members should not be used to calculate what percentage of our support use OTIB as you seem to suggest.

2% is far to low. I would put it in the 10-20% bracket if honest.

If the stats are not available (well they are, would require some work though) so any figures/thoughts put forward will be subject to confirmation bias (I'd like to say I'm above a biased opinion, but that would be a biased wouldn't it  ;) ?)

Maybe 2% is too low and 10-20% too high?

So to err... anything between 5-10%?

Hardly any fans I know through following City have heard of otib.

As Red Dave posted my guess is also around 2%

However in my case nearly every fan I know has. I recently discovered two family members are on here and I knew nothing about it.

And if we once had 8,500 online, that suggests it does reach a fair proprtion of the fan base, even if far fewer will be active posters.

It appears that some want to know the posts per day (active users).

Others want to know the number of views per day (passive consumption).

Each different data pull type will suit the agenda of the consumer.

The 8500 view figure (this happened 30th October 2013), is this an statistic outlier? We won't find this out until the stats are provided. BTW, is the site able to discern the difference between real users and robots (the search engine type)?

Over to the admins to provide a detailed stat page (a basic stat page is provided) if they want to or for someone to scrape the forum and produce stats.

BTW, todays post level 240 with 30 minutes left of the 24hrs. 100 less than yesterday.

As of now, there are 281 viewers on the site.

It's most defiantely an outlier. It's possibly from a search engine bot that the software didn't reconise. However there have been times when there have been over 5'000 viewers online - usually after a major match or event.

Over the weekend we had 11,563 users online. This doesn't include search engine bots and the like. It's all subjective to % who know about OTIB and % who use it. None of us can acurrately say.
