Ryan Giggs being the last example where one club can mobilise enough votes to blitz any other nominees, including that year world champions Jenson Button and Jess Ennis. Sometimes the public vote isn't always the best route to a fair outcome... Valid point. I'd forgotten that year, was a farcical result. 7 hours ago, Super said: Jimmy Anderson should be in with a shout then if Rooney is. stephenkibby.
Hamilton? I really can't think of anybody less deserving. Unless being up your own ass is the main asset to winning the thing,.
CotswoldRed
Yeah, no. So long as the winning 'personality' can, ya know, speak, like, well, ya know, proper English, like, then I don't care who wins.

Lack of Action Man
Jenson Button should get some sort of commitment award for trying his upmost to race in the worst McLaren ever.
ChippenhamRed
Ennis has to win it. Winning an egg and spoon race at a sports day would be impressive so soon after a pregnancy, but winning the Heptathlon at the World Championships is phenomenal. Lanterne Rouge
They should get team of the year (I know it was all Murray but it is a team after all and it would be a little unfair IMHO if he got the individual award). Toss up between them and the women`s football team I should think. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, Chris Froome for the individual. 22A
This year it's being held in Belfast on 20th December and tickets have sold out. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/sports-personality Nominations now in for overseas personality; Usain Bolt - Dan Carter (All Blacks Captain) - Novak Djokovic - Katie Ledecky (American swimmer) - Jordan Spieth (American golfer) - Serena Williams. I admit I had not heard of the golfer or swimmer.

Kodjia 22
Surely Jordan Spieth for the overseas award? Masters and US Open winner, tied for second in the PGA and tied for forth at The Open at the age of 22, some achievement I think.

Lrrr
Both Spieth and Novak would be deserving winners as either accomplishment is excellent. Team, England Ladies probably will get it, GB Davis Cup as another option. Or Sampson for coach of the year for England Ladies if GB win team award. Robbored
Sports personality used to be a must watch annual event and for years I never missed it. However in more recent times I found that it's become way too drawn out and dare I say it, overlong. Personally I'm only interested in who wins the award and have little interest in any of the other categories. "Overseas personality" zzzzzzzzzz who cares? i almost certainly won't bother to watch it this year probably because I can't remember who won last year...
