It seemed like there were more police today than there were for Cardiff, two weeks ago, both inside and outside the ground. We also passed a Bolton coach on the Portway which had been stopped by 3 police wagons. Anyone know why they were given such a heavy presence?

Was problems up there a few years back that were matched in the Hen on their return.

That probably has something to do with it.

There was a huge line of coppers and two mounted horses just standing around in Ashton Road as I left AG. I asked some of them why they were out in such force as Bolton didn't have that many fans. They just shrugged...

I'm glad they were mounted horses. Much more effective that way.

They were supposed to have been deployed in Newport today, but it was considered too dangerous for the horses........

Were the horses mounted in an intimate way and if so was Mark Ashton there?

It is approaching the 30th anniversary of our 3-0 win against them at Wembley and it is the 70th anniversary this year of the Burnden Park disaster. If you subtract 30 from 70 you get 40 years which is the usual sentence handed out for attempting to kill 15,000 City fans so it was obvious the fuzz would try to prevent this when it was so obvious. If you don't think stats should have any bearing on anything consequential then dig this. It is 30 years since we beat Bolton 3-0 in the 86 Final, add the two 3s =6 and add the zero and nil = 0 so comes to 6-0!  It is written in the stars and it would've been remiss of the authorities to ignore this.

As @Bristol Rob said I'm sure there was a fair bit of trouble a few years back. Probably just playing it safe, although if they're bringing 700 ish in advanced sales only you'd think it would be easier to determine whether such policing was necessary

It seems they had one loony coach load today, They were wrapped up straight after the game and had their own little escort out of town!

The Bolton coach that passed us on Winsterstoke Rd by Wickes had several Police with hi-via onboard, and they were banging on the Windows angrily.

Caught the bus down as we went to a cider tasting after the game. Coming down Stapleton road ( wasn't singing City are the champions BTW. one for the oldies there). There were a group of Police in army camo uniforms  and Police vests, then get to the tobacco factory  and loads of OB and vans ! I thought WW3 had started and no one had told me.
