Portishead Puffin
It seemed like there were more police today than there were for Cardiff, two weeks ago, both inside and outside the ground. We also passed a Bolton coach on the Portway which had been stopped by 3 police wagons. Anyone know why they were given such a heavy presence? Was problems up there a few years back that were matched in the Hen on their return. That probably has something to do with it.
Robbored
There was a huge line of coppers and two mounted horses just standing around in Ashton Road as I left AG. I asked some of them why they were out in such force as Bolton didn't have that many fans. They just shrugged...

pongo88
Crazy presence. Four police vans by the Nova Scocia swing bridge just after 2.00. What were they expecting from 800 Bolton fans?
54-46
Was pretty surprised to see so many myself. The away leg was trouble free so not sure why it was necessary
Portland Bill
It seems they had one loony coach load today, They were wrapped up straight after the game and had their own little escort out of town!
Fodbarmyarmy
When that coach pulled up outside the Wedlocks, after being escorted across the flyover by three vans with blues flashing, the first 15 or so off the coach were coppers..... funny as....we thought the Trotters had come in fancy dress..... They were supposed to have been deployed in Newport today, but it was considered too dangerous for the horses........

handsofclay
It is approaching the 30th anniversary of our 3-0 win against them at Wembley and it is the 70th anniversary this year of the Burnden Park disaster. If you subtract 30 from 70 you get 40 years which is the usual sentence handed out for attempting to kill 15,000 City fans so it was obvious the fuzz would try to prevent this when it was so obvious. If you don't think stats should have any bearing on anything consequential then dig this. It is 30 years since we beat Bolton 3-0 in the 86 Final, add the two 3s =6 and add the zero and nil = 0 so comes to 6-0! It is written in the stars and it would've been remiss of the authorities to ignore this.

Guest
As @Bristol Rob said I'm sure there was a fair bit of trouble a few years back. Probably just playing it safe, although if they're bringing 700 ish in advanced sales only you'd think it would be easier to determine whether such policing was necessary
myol'man
They were expecting a big boozy following (which there was) stag parties and general P!55 heads, a lot of em started to leave after the second goal went in

clerk
Simple reason: more coppers than usual fancied a bit of over-time. There were not enough young black males to stop & search, so they ended up at AG.

Kingswood Robin
Completely over the top. About 6 riot vans along north street, you'd think we were playing Cardiff and Millwall at the same time. I'm thinking it must be March and there's money to be spent. 1960maaan
Caught the bus down as we went to a cider tasting after the game. Coming down Stapleton road ( wasn't singing City are the champions BTW. one for the oldies there). There were a group of Police in army camo uniforms and Police vests, then get to the tobacco factory and loads of OB and vans ! I thought WW3 had started and no one had told me.
