I don't know why some don't go and experience a foreign country. Fair play to Eric dier for going out to Portugal in the first place. In the recent past, we had Hargreaves, Owen and Beckham who had played abroad, but it appears clubs want to keep their own talent. No harm in that, but it would be nice if some would go to Spain, Germany or Italy to experience on a regular basis how other players play. I know clubs have all the technology in the world but having that first hand experience would be so much more beneficial

Our record at these tournaments are pretty pathetic. One semi final 'ever' in tournaments played abroad. It was only a friendly last night, in a game where no player is going to want to get injured, but you choose to stick the knife in....what's the difference? I don't blame them by the way as the majority of us seek to maximise our earnings.
cidercity1987
Well that was a dress rehearsal for the quarter final and we won 1-0. No problem here.

I think he's got himself a start with that performance I don't watch a lot of Premiership football so don't know him very well, but I was there last night (Portugal end) and stood out to me too. Thought he looked very good for England. Not sure why all the doom and gloom when over the course of the past 18 months talented young players (certainly I wasn't aware of) have been emerging in a range of positions for you. It was a poor game but our manager specialises in a contain strategy that sucks the life out of most matches first. It's not fashionable but I didn't think Milner was too bad either, but I suppose he's let you down with some tournament performances. Likewise I was amazed to hear England fans booing Rooney when he went off (for Lallana, which makes it even more bizarre). I know everyone is on the Vardy/Kane/Rashford bandwagon now but to me as with last night Rooney puts a shift in and is always looking to make things happen. It could be worse, Nani could be your bloody target man. As others have said, atmosphere was absolutely shocking. In ninety minutes, England fans as a whole participated in six mexican waves but only one song. It was contemptible. Based on the tube, mix of kids with parents, tourists, and pissed up city workers. For selfish reasons nice to be in the away end, could not find a more friendly or diverse national following in Europe. Last saw us in a Wembley friendly 21 years ago and was nothing like it. One for the Brexiteers Kids overheard on tube excitedly referring to an absent friend as if it was the most normal thing in the world: "No, he's a Leicester fan now"

Why would they when they get paid more in this country? I totally agree it would help our national team if they did but unless they are wanted by Real or Barca who could match salaries in the Prem they won't go

Spain / Italy / Germany etc have players go play abroad, yet their clubs are still made up of majority "home nationality" players that are good enough to compete in their leagues. If the 23 players in our England squad went and played abroad, who would replace them at United, Chelsea, Man City? Foreign players most likely. It's a good job the Argentinian fa don't have an issue. The whole starting 11 at the 2014 world cup final all played in Europe. Not even the same continent. I do appreciate what you say though, predominantly Spain's best players play in LA Liga, Germany's play in Germany etc.

Plus as someone else said, what other country in the world would pay people like Jamie Vardy 100k a week?
