An amateur league in Hull tried revising the rules once. If the ball went odd the side of the pitch, it could be thrown or kicked back on as desired. They also suggested doing away with indirect free kicks, making them all direct.

The FA came down like a ton of bricks and informed that league that if they adopted those rules, their members would be banned from playing any other club in the land.
