Fairly sure AFTER the yellow Tomlin  mouthed a further insult at the ref which either the ref ignored or chose to. Also has regular rants at Bryan and anyone else around. Love the skill and talent but not a team player.

He did and ONeil could not get to the ref fast enough to try to defuse the situation. It was a shocking call by the lino mind.

Yes it was but we all know Refs will make shocking decisions now and again as they are human not infallible robots and if Tomlin isn't clever enough to realise that he is going to let himself and more important the team and even more important the fans down.

So if you are reading Lee wise up!!

I feel the solution to this could be by playing the following 4-2-3-1 formation which I believe is probably LJ's preferred option.

     RO'D

AM AF HM JB

  KS GO'N

TA   LT   CO'D

      JK

So, basically you have TA cutting in off the wing (could easily rotate this with JK during games)

I think we can - but not in a 4-4-2 where he is isolated.

4-3-1-2 with him behind the front two.

Narrow but with O'Neil, Pack, and Brownhill (Smith) behind him, its a strong line up and he can be the number 10 that we know he is.

Totally agree. This is the only way it can work. Will end up with cod on the bench tho.

Talk about a complete over reaction.

Says the bloke who tells me to get a grip and have a word with myself for passing comment from outside Burton's ground, on the tactics and standard of the performance, irrespective of the result, in a manner since substantiated by about 10 other posts from other people who were at the game.

But yes, mine was the overreaction. Must he getting hot in your big glass house at the moment. Try breaking a few windows.

Regardless of the performance, the most pleasing thing for me is our reaction to a set back in both league games so far. In the past we have been the sort of team to collapse after going a goal down / conceding a late equaliser.

Now we have a group of players who can regroup and push on a make a difference, something we were crying out for last season.

.........and very importantly, a manager prepared to make changes at the right time.

Would rather play crap, have shite tactics, be under the pundits radars, play up to being the unfashionable team if it means we win games, collect points and have a reasonably successful season.

After last year I for one could do without the squeaky bum time after Christmas.

Playing crap and winning. I remember Liverpool doing that in the 70s and winning the league.

I know (I think) what you're saying (they passed it back to Clem to pick up at 1:0 rather a lot?), but here's a stat for you:

from season 70/71 to 79/80, Liverpool lost only nine (nine) home games.

Ten seasons, 210 home games, lost nine. Yes, visiting referees and lines were influenced/biased/homers but averaging less than 1 defeat at home a season for 10 years. Amazing we beat them twice here back then and one draw at Anfield (I think?)

Can't comment on the game because I wasn't there but if you had asked me before the game, how I expected it to go, I'd have said:

Taking into consideration their home form last season (lost 2 all season), the small ground, tight pitch, the fact they gave Forest a real run last week (should have got something), it's their first home game in the Championship - I expect we'll have the ball an awful lot less than we'd like and we'll be put under a great deal of pressure. I'll take a draw now and if we're to get anything, we're really going to have to dig in.

Sounds pretty much how it panned out. When we romped to the league 1 title I can remember similar reports following trips to Rochdale, Walsall and Crewe. That's football.

We're not just a new team, it's easy to forget we're also quite a young team and with that will come inconsistency.

Really important thing for me is we've played three games that, last season, we'd have lost or drawn and won all three of them.  We need to improve but every point matters and we've a 6 point gap over Blackburn, Leeds, Preston, Newcastle and Burton and a 5 point gap over Rotherham and Derby.  Whatever our hopes for the season, the first priority has to be to make sure we stay up and if we can win the games that we might have drawn, and draw some of the games we might have lost, that's going to be vital.

Kibs - you are spot on, plus, as there happens to be another side on the pitch it is rare for any team to play the perfect match.  Sometimes all you need is 8-9 6/10s, and 2/3 top performances to win the game.  It's when 2/3/4 have an off day you're in trouble.

I think we will know much more about our side at the end of September (quite a way off), when Korey is back, Matthews is fit and both him and Magnússon are settled into the back four.  Additionally Tammy won't score all the goals, and we'll see whether we can play him with Kocjia and Tomlin.  I reckon we can, but it will take some sacrifices from one of all 3 of them, plus some changes to the midfield 3.

Your first sentence is pretty much what I remember from those days. I also remember Liverpool nicking games with a late winner again and again.

Even with 2mins left and a goal down you just knew they wouldn't lose.

Nope for 2 reasons firstly  I feel that the person appending the emoji should have spent more time studying a thesaurus and secondly one person in particular uses them when he knows that he lacks a cogent argument.

That's three games in a row we've played like that and today we've literally mugged Burton despite being outplayed for most of it. The tactics are poor with no width, a real premium on creating chances (dependent on killer balls through the middle mainly) and losing out in midfield most of the time.

Been same all three games, happy days 3 wins but let's not be complacent, the tactics have not worked for most of the 270 minutes and LJ needs to sort it out. Realise I've not justified this but walking right now, proper examples to follow when I'm on the train.

If we bring in more new faces before September there will be more to "sort out" and more integration (or "gelling") to be done. And we have Sat-Tues-Sat-Tues-Sat then a chance to get up to Failand and work on what needs working on. Then it's SatTuesSat again before another free week.

We need to give this time and hope that whilst we wait for performances to improve (which they need to do) we continue to pick up points.

The recruitment this summer went better than expected and possibly raised expectations for the quality of football we might see. We haven't hit the ground running but it's a nine month season and we have time to get to where we want to be. I guess one of the disappointments in this is that the two "show" games are next and it will be a pity if our biggest crowds and some of our floating/occasional support don't see this team playing to it's potential. A scabby 1:0 win over Newcastle would be some consolation though.

I'm pretty certain I posted that exact lineup (at least the players named plus formation) on the Abraham thread before he had signed!
