BRISTOL86
Don't understand why a 3.00 kick off is not acceptable yet nearly 5 hours later was fine for the game in Cardiff.

JulieH
Main reason for ko change this time is because the road leading to away coach park and the associated metro bus works will be closed at approx 1930-2000hrs. ( winter Stoke road) There was a request from us to consider an early ko as the road and workmen could be preparing for it to be closed from Early evening which would have caused lots of issues getting coaches out. hope this clarifies the situation a little

City fan 1982
If the game finishes at 5. The roadworks start at 730. The roads should have cleared in 2 and a half hours surely ?

bristolborn_and_red
Absolutely ridiculous. I have to work Saturday mornings and finish around 1.pm so now my son and I cannot go to the game. I didn't buy a season ticket to be pissed about A & S police. I bought it to go and support my team at 3.pm. The police's duty is to uphold the law not to make things easier for themselves which is exactly what is happening here. Bar BS3
The above excuse is poor as well as downright dishonest! Why not just that it's Cardiff, so we want a more sober kick off time. And I can see how, for some, kick off time changes can be inconvenient. But did anyone really expect this game to take place at 3pm..?!

You are supposed to be Police Liason, not chatting about where you live, what your dad does - and then defend this change with "Po-Po talk" It's Cardiff - you don't want the potential grief - fair enough. Don't blame it on imaginary late afternoon roadworks - it utterly destroys your credibility on here. (MODS - THIS IS A FAIR CALL AND SHOULD BE POSTED) - Thanks! JulieH
Thank you all for your constructive and honest feedback. i am not dishonest , in fact far too open for my own good! I am sure if enquiries are made at Bristol city council they will confirm the roadworks. Bcfc actually posted about them a number of weeks ago on their news feed. police engagement was requested on this site and I will continue to provide relevant and honest information for as long as requested. If there is a desire for this to stop then that will be the case. It is fair to say that an early kick off lessens the threat of disorder through alcohol, and it is the polices main core policing value to ensure public safety. This game is almost a normal game now after a number of years of very strong restrictions.

This game is almost a normal game now after a number of years of very strong restrictions. The threat of disorder? I have to confess the perceived threat is so disproportionate to reality and it a useful tool for the police to run roughshod over the views of most fans. I've been to thousands of games and, certainly in recent years, I must have had my eyes and ears closed as the amount of disorder I see is just about nil. Many of us have been to Cardiffs Ninian Park many times over many seasons and there was always trouble. It hasn't been quite so hostile when Cardiff visit AG largely because the A&S police move the ko time so no fans can get beered up prior to the game. It happens every season regardless of road works. So....Juliet, please just give us the real reason instead of the PC flannel you posted.

"Could be" or "would be", did anyone check? Out of interest, how do you "prepare" for a minor road such as Winterstoke Road to be closed, and how long does it take? With a 3pm ko, all coaches would be out by 5.30pm. That gives 2hours to "prepare" for the road to be closed. The official site says "Game will now begin at midday on Police advice" - since when did the police advise local authority Highways Department on road closures? Many people use their Saturday mornings to catch up on things they haven't had time to do during the week, or to watch their children play Saturday morning sport, or take their children to some other activity, or have a regular activity themselves, some people work Saturday mornings, and so on. Midday kick offs are inconvenient to the vast majority, many will miss the match because of it. To accommodate the logistical nightmare of moving a handful of coaches. Returning to my opening line, if somebody checks with Highways Department, that they do not need more than 2 hours to prepare for Winterstoke Road closure, presumably it will be possible to move the ko back to 3pm?
