With Tammy out, surely, surely, LJ has to start with Djuric AND Taylor up front?

Personally I'd like to see 3-5-2 or perhaps more of a 3-4-1-2, but whatever the formation has to be Djuric & Taylor up front together.

I think that's probably about right, - sticking to 442 if Matthews is not fit will be tough.  So I'd say either this or drop to Tomlin and have a back four of Vyner/Matthews Flint wright/mags Golbourne.

Or O'Neil....definitely prefer a flatter 3 in midfield in that formation.  Taylor has already shown that his movement is good enough to 1. come short, give and go, 2. Come short into pockets and face up the CBs and 3. Run in behind.

you don't need a no10, nor a free role no10.  We need legs and energy.  We have enough skill to create without resorting to LT, especially in a game against a team who will run us around....let's not forget Fulham are 8th.

On his day MacDonald can run a midfield.  Cairney has the sweetest left peg I've seen of late alongside Pringle and Garbutt.  We must not get over-run in there.  Will be win or list in there on Wednesday.

I'm hoping for a good goalkeeper, 4 good defenders, 4 good midfielders and a couple of lads who can stick a ball in the net - I think they are called strikers.

I think I'd be wasting my time... SL would be spoilt for choice with so many knowledgeable and more tactically aware posters on this forum.

Just promise to put a rocket up the players, play 4-4-2 and most importantly be cheap.  You'll have the job in no time

Remember when MA said "you'd be surprised whose names are on our list" - was it yours?

With Tammy out, I'd hope the obvious happens and we start with Taylor and Djuric.

And if the only reason we're apparently keeping Engvall around is because he might help cover for Tammy, then for all that is Holy; let's have him on the bench and actually consider playing him for once.

If he's keen as mustard to get into the Swedish under-21s, he's got as much motivation as anyone to do well; give him that chance.

Totally agree. Has to be Taylor and Djuric up top regardless of formation and if we're keeping Engvall around he has to make the bench.

In my mind, Engvall seems a logical replacement for Taylor if he's needing subbed, while Wilbs can cover for Djuric.

If he's not in the squad, we should just let Engvall go to Sweden; no point keeping him about otherwise.

The sun will shine tomorrow, count on à City win .

There will be a wailing and a wringing of hands by those who want LJ bannished .

Three points on the board there will  be .

The houses of Taylor and Djuric will kill assorted vegetables for a great feast to celebrate their goals

And we , the followers of the Robins , will dance In the streets and sing of these great deeds .

I don't quite know what happened there but I have a feeling we're going to win on Wednesday.

                                 Wilbraham                            Taylor

Tomlin gets a "free role" and Djuric comes on for Wilbs after an hour.

We win 3-2.

No problem.

Yesss,

This formation will confuse  the living daylights out of them.

Go for it!

Id try Brownhill Right Back - he was excellent there for 45 minutes v Forest earlier in the season

He is neither combative nor experienced enough to dominate a Championship game in midfield

Are some of you bonkers. Wanting Wilbraham instead of Djuric. The latter is far better at holding the ball up, better in the air and better at battling against centre forwards. Also we need energy and quick legs. That leaves out Tomlin (Reluctantly) and let's in Reid for me as he has the engine to break forward and support the two forwards. He also gets back sharp. Or could go for Patterson. Don't like Golbourne at the moment so Bryan back there with O'Dowda in front. Or can go three at the back with Wright, Flint and Magnusson. And Cotterill, Hegerson, Reid, Browning and Bryan. That's a lively five. Whoever is selected in whatever formation, we have to get behind the lads as soon as they come onto the pitch.

Djuric can't plough the lone furrow so I see that his hand is forced..If Lee goes one up top it would be puzzling, putting it politely.

Time to play Magners also.

one "up top" and again no Magners then!

Provided Tomlin can put a really good shift in I'd go for the OP line up, although tbh have my doubts as Tomlin is so inconsistent.

Possibly only change to this for me would be GON (if fit) in for Hegeler...not a reflection on him as I do think he is a very good player but would like us to play a high tempo tonight. Not sure Hegeler and GON would work together and I like Brownhill's energy. Hopefully Tommo is on it tonight to link up with Taylor and Cotts and JB can get some good deliveries into Djuric.

Understand the changing of players (in moderation) but don't want to see anymore messing around with the starting formation 4-4-2 for me or ok 4-4-1-1 in tough away games.

I tend to agree and 4-4-2 is something that players apparently understand the best. The trouble is with our squad, 4-4-2 means the likes of Vyner, Matthews,Goldbourne, Little (when fit) have to play in some guise and it means a 'left back' (ish) in Bryan playing left midfield,  are they good enough? Also means Mags can't get in. We have Tomlin, Paterson, Reid who prefer to play 'in the hole', so it rules them out as well. So in my opinion the best use of our squad is 3-4-3 and to get our best players playing and having to use any of our full backs!

                          wright  flint   Mags

            Cotts   heg/o neill   brownhill/pack   bryan

                            tomlin/Reid/Paterson

                   Djuric/ Wilbs          Tammy/ Taylor

Whether our better players are good enough remains to be seen and if  the recruitment and tactics are good enough.

I think with Brownhill over pack allows us to play at a higher tempo, I think o'neil would slow it down,

Good post. I'm a little torn between this formation and 4-4-2 with the line Alessandro posted. I like the 3-4-3/5-3-2 you posted for lots of reasons and you've articulated them well, However, I think I'd still lean towards 442 more because of where we are in the league, it's a little more familliar and simple to deploy and while we are struggling probably makes the most sense.
