We saw yesterday just how much money can be generated by putting bums on seats at a reasonable price. The food and drink outlets must have taken a small fortune with that amount of people in the ground. A friend came for the first time and we were discussing today how much money was spent by people when they were in or around the ground, between the three of us we spent £32 and I expect s lot of people on here spent an awful lot more than us. Would be interesting to know just how much money was generated from that one match alone.

Was thinking the same. Full house, everybody drinking( either alcohol or hot drinks), food and even shop was packed with special offers .

I'm one of the converted, always used to drink in ship and castle and rising sun. But since the concourse in dolman has nice cider at the same price with sky TV and a toilet close by there's no competition . Luckily my mates and family do the same so it's the same atmosphere as being in pub!

For every person buying 2 or 3 pints and a pie etc there is people who bring their own drinks etc or go without.

People with lots of kids are liable to spend a lot less average.

I think about £7 per person would be a decent average giving about £180k less about - what 50% in salaries and goods for the people directly involved - presume tickets cover all the other overheads involved.

So £90k profit sound too high or too low purely on selling related  outlets ?

On a regular basis would be possible, say once a month, given that season ticket holders get priority to buy tickets even cheaper

Yes but they already got them or am I missing something?

If they did this offer once a month then I would expect my season ticket price to come down as that is reducing my saving.

An extra ticket (elsewhere) for family/friends close to for free.

Or two extra tickets so they can sit together.

Also wondering if the new stadium and facilites has had a effect on the local pubs??

It doesn't seem to have had an effect on The Rising Sun from what I see still heaving on match days, also people are creatures of habit on match days.

36 quid and we wont put too many bums on seats, 15 quid and we pack the ground.  Must be an oprimum price in between, say £25.

Depends a lot on how well we are doing and ST prices would need adjusting.

2 of us currently have to pay 70 to 80 quid to watch a game so dont go nearly as often as we would like to and its an awful lot to watch 2nd tier football.

Also, should lower thw price for the front 3 or 4 rows as you cant really see much from there.

When I started going to the gate it was 5 bob for adults and half a crown for kids (thats 25p and 12 1/2p in feet and inches).  Im sure general inflation hasnt been that bad.

Interesting thread. In terms of pure revenue generation I guess the club has to find the optimum between a higher ticket price and a smaller crowd v a cheaper ticket and a bigger crowd spending more in the ground.

I'm not sure £41 standard price in the Lansdown is the answer, but neither I suspect is £15 every game. I wonder how many fewer would have bought at £20, then £25, etc.

Ashton gate is far from plastic!

Everything on Sunday was premier league except from the performance!

Club couldn't have done more on Sunday to make fans happy.

Plastic it is not!

I know yesterday was exceptional due to the opposition and the possible problems, but I should imagine there was very little profit after the police bill was paid?

You only pay for police who step foot inside the stadium. But yes yesterday's would have been higher than normal?

But then the attendance was also higher than normal. Also many like myself got to the ground extra early to avoid traffic chaos and ended up spending more than usual.

I expect the bill for the police would be pretty high though. But certainly all outlets were really busy

And there was a great buzz about the place. At least until kick off.

Premier league is pretty plastic and compared to the Lions Miners Masonic Colliers AG is definitely not comparable. However lots of people prefer the AG experience and fair play to them. I prefer supporting local non billionaire businessmen and I daresay the club is content whichever way you swing.

£20 is plenty!!

Think that would be a good balance for club and fans?

The counter argument against this is that the Newcastle and Villa games sold out at full price. Whilst I think those prices are too much, it's difficult to argue with the economics when that happens. Perhaps the answer is to make a bigger distinction in price between the most and least attractive fixtures.

In general. For every dad who buys a coke and a large bag of crisps for a kid or two there are those who bring a bottle of water and crisps, sandwich whatever and spend nothing at the ground in the kids.

Put it this way - there is no way an average of £7 per child is being spent.

And whilst some adults have no pints, some will have 4 and adults will bring the AVERAGE price up more than kids.

So back to your question - yes - I am very sure !! How else would you explain more alcohol outlets than snack outlets ?

Don't forget we are talking about all outlets not just food and drink so you can include programmes and the shop in the argument.

To be fair the Newcastle and villa games were capped at 22,500 due to safety reasons etc. So not sure they would have sold out? Probaly would have, but need to look at the 10 other games against the mid- table teams and relegation threatened teams that people don't want to pay £35 plus a ticket.

Agreed a balance is needed but was nice to see the ground full on Sunday !

With so many genuine pubs closing down it would be great if we can have one of those pubs in each stand. A quite place were you can come a couple of hours before the game not to be treated as an animal heading for slaughter

Not sure where you'd find the room, as nice an idea as it is.

Not so sure about that. Ask Bournemouth fans if it's plastic or the Man utd fans who thought the glaziers were the end of their club.

The premier league is far from perfect like the lower leagues. But plastic.. No not from me, I'm sure us city fans could give it a go at waking it up a bit !

Just like to say thanks for the hospitality yesterday. Lovely weather, two great sets of fans mixing well, old bill ok too. Being a veteran of the more 'funkier' type of fixture between the two clubs it was nice to see.

Agree with this. I also live 4 miles from myrtle farm sandford where the thatchers factory is( and lovely cider shop) and believe me it's a good pint at the gate. I'm a specialist in drinking cider !

I noticed at half time that Oasis and sweets were running low in the South stand kiosks (I know because it was a rare occasion where I wanted Oasis and every bastard in the queue ahead of me kept buying them up!).

For city the lesson to be learned here is, get the prices right - get bums on seats (particularly kids who want sugary things) and keep the dough coming in! At 35-40quid a ticket, we won't be getting 25,000 regularly.

Know Thatcher's shop well, been visiting for years!

The season card discount has made the option of eating and drinking in the stadium more competitive and the quality is definitely better.

You're welcome! Genuine question for you with no intent to antagonise - on reflection, what did you think of your players running into the crowd like that? Fully justified or a bit rich to be celebrating narrowing escaping a failure of their own making?!

I guess it's different when it's your own team in the heat of the moment, but I thought it was a bit OTT given the season you've had.

Another question in the general area of the topic - does the club gather information regarding the spending habits of SC Holders in the ground? Is there some form of compilation when we use the cards at the outlets? They must surely keep tabs on each SCH as they go through the turnstiles, after all.

The guy who did that was Craig Gardner who is supposed to be a Blues fan yet couldn't wait to leave the year we got relegated from the prem. He has been shocking since he came this year and gave the ball away all day long and wasted all our dead balls which he's been doing since he came. So yes I did think it OTT and potentially dangerous but as you say heat of the moment etc...He redeemed himself in a post match interview however by taking the opportunity to run down our neighbours and their pathetic behaviour at Blackburn.

On the broader point I guess it was a mixture of sheer relief and wanting to share the fans elation. You're right most of them should take a long hard look at theirselves especially after Zola arrived as they did not perform for the useless little ****. Having been to every game this season I was chuffed to stay up but only to ram it down a certain clubs fans throats. Going down held no fear for me and wouldnt have changed my support.

Wendy, I genuinely don't mean to sound rude but I've challenged you on this before and you didn't reply.

As a member I pay £24 (silver) or £29 (gold) for a decent seat in the Dolman. There are other cheaper seats available elsewhere in the ground. Yes, the membership costs £20 but that pays back in 4 games - and even without it the you don't have to pay as much as you are claiming.

This season I have also watched 3 games at discounted prices - Blackburn (£10), Hull (£13) and Birmingham (£15).

It's simply not true to say you "have to pay £70-£80" for two people to watch a game. The £25 price you identify is near enough achievable already in some areas of the ground.

Great reply, cheers! Interesting that you also thought it was a bit OTT, that was my instinct. He celebrated narrowly escaping relegation like he'd just scored a last minute winner in the Champions League final!

Don't think so or we could have some kind of loyality points reward system, eg free pie after x amount of pints or even in the shop, discounted items, eg you have bought the shirt and the training top, what about money off shorts/socks. I don't think the info is collected otherwise it would be used.
