PHILINFRANCE
I’m just reading on Cricinfo, which is normally very reliable, that qualification for the 2025 World Cup is based on the finishing positions in this tournament - the top seven plus Pakistan, as hosts. England had better buck up their ideas in the next week or so, or any discussion about poor preparation and the negative effects of the 100 will be largely academic. Today’s match against India appears to be slipping away slightly after an encouraging start - Liam Livingston starring again.
bearded_red
Genuinely abysmal.
RoystonFoote'snephew
Absolutely appalling shots, particularly from Stokes. I'll be amazed if England get past 120.
Markthehorn
Looks like another hammering on the cards if we aren’t careful. Just need to build a partnership.
PHILINFRANCE
So, England restrict India to 230 and still manage to lose by 100 runs. Suddenly, England's match against The Netherlands becomes extremely important as, should they lose, they will most likely not be going to the 2025 World Cup.
RoystonFoote'snephew
I was 9 runs out. I don't know if the holders have ever finished bottom of the competition and failed to qualify for the next world cup but it's looking likely. At present I wouldn't back them to beat a team of, 15 year olds.
Lrrr
Bin off every player from playing ODI's who is unlikely to make it to the World Cup in 4 years time, give new players enough time to get international experience in 50 over cricket before then. Chairman Mao
I am afraid I was there. Now in Kolkota for Pakistan vs. Bangladesh. Stokes was the worst. Slow in the field. Woeful with the bat. Completely embarrassing. Feel sorry for the fans who paid all that money to follow that utter shower. Luckily we only had tickets for the one game. 1
Admin phantom Posted November 1, 2023 Admin Report Share Posted November 1, 2023 Australia batter Glenn Maxwell will miss Saturday's World Cup match against England after falling off the back of a golf buggy and suffering a concussion. The incident happened on Monday as Australia's squad played a round of golf on a day off in Ahmedabad. Australia say there is no further injury and it is hoped he will be able to play later in the tournament.

PHILINFRANCE
This is going to really mess up Sri Lanka's NRR, perhaps jeopardising their chance of qualifying for the 2025 World Cup and, by extension, enhancing England's chances - always assuming England can beat The Netherlands next week. Lanterne Rouge
With the awful weather in Cornwall I got home early just as India were finishing their innings and thought, `Great, I can watch a whole afternoon of the WC now`, That went well. Northern Red
Stokes to have knee surgery after the World Cup, hopes to be fit for the start of the India tour at the end of January. Would it not make sense to send him home now seeing as we have nothing to play for? Edited November 3, 2023 by Northern Red

ralphindevon
Not a single comment on today’s game! I’ve barely commented on any of this World Cup which I normally would have done frequently. I guess it’s because we have been so poor but just feel a bit meh about the whole WC in India. I love the 50 over format, I’m sure I saw a Times headline suggesting Mike Atherton think’s the same. A good full days cricket that requires skills from red ball and T20. But the fact our counties don’t play it any more with their first elevens has pissed me off so much I can’t be doing with it.
