Or as Pénétration put it ,

" Life's a gamble "

Some of the modern day great Philosophers have also commented.

Roland Keating put it  "Life is a rollercoaster" or Forrest Gump's equally profound utterance that "Life is a box of chocolates".

On a different level entirely, John Lennon said that "life is what happens when you've planned something else" although he may have pinched this from someone else.

As the great William Ocean once said, "when the going gets tough, the tough get going".

You can use this as a stick to beat LJ with, but as others have said, we've got best part of £3m for someone who was obviously not enjoying himself, not playing well, seemingly not socialising with his team mates. I know who's camp I'm in with this one

Camp?

You know who's camp? Is it Tootise Flint, or Gaylord Taylor?

Come on Woodsy, it's no good keeping this information to yourself - spill the beans lad, this is information City fans really need to know.

Surely the club should also know this information before they decide roomies out in Tenerife.:shocking:

He also said

Want to be your lover lover
Want to be your lover lover lover boy
Lover lover
Want to be your lover lover lover boy

Perhaps that is when the going gets tough!

Roland was never that profound on any episode of Grange Hill I watched.

Ronan on the other hand...

Pedant alert!

Can be traced back  to a 1957 Reader's Digest article, which attributes it to Allen Saunders.

Or did Paul Simon write life is a box of chocolates?

For me, LJ doesn't need to be the one that speaks. The one we need to hear from is Lansdown.

If what LJ says is true, has the club really changed after all these years? We've essentially signed a journeyman that didn't live up to expectations, didn't turn a profit, and went to a rival.

Ultimately, it's all down to who will replace Tomlin. If we can replace internally, then all hope is not lost. If we can't, questions need to be asked.

Replace the moody and mercurial Tomlin?

Why?     :dunno:

He didn't exactly set the place alight. Granted he provided some brilliance once in a while but at the same time wasted waaay to many passes and lost possession far too often.

We signed exactly the type of skilful, creative player that many fans have called for us to sign for ages, who was outstanding during his loan spell, when he was influential in our survival. Had we not signed him permanently there would have been a fans riot.

When he proved to be too disruptive off the pitch the club did well to recover a fair chunk of what we paid by selling him to club that only wanted to take him on loan.

To describe Tomlin as a journeyman, and question whether the club has really changed after all these years is more than a little disingenuous. Journeymen were the players we had on the books at the time of our last relegation, sitting on big wages that we couldn't get off the books because no one wanted them.

As for selling him to Cardiff, would we prefer him to stay here picking up £30,000 and destabilising the squad still further? It was more important that he went, then where he went.

See I would say for me, to avoid a repeat of last season, it's all about improving the defence and keeping the ball out of OUR net. Too much emphasis always seems to get placed on goals scored whereas the real fault over the last couple of years has been at the other end. We scored more goals than Huddersfield last season and also scored freely in 15/16 when again we spent most of the time in and around the drop zone.

Hopefully Pisano will help one one side, but I still think we need a quality defensive midfielder to break up play. We were far too easy to walk through last season, and it was bordering on ridiculous how often very average teams would tear us apart on the flanks.

Agree. Conceding fewer goals is the key. Towards the end of last season, Brownhill's and Paterson's defensive work rate was evident in helping to shore up the flanks. Helped Little and Bryan and the rest of the defence no end. I think Taylor's movement and chasing down also helped us defensively.  Even Brighton couldn't manage to score against us. We need more of this this season.

Well, obviously not a like-for-like replacement, but I'd assume that we'd want to replace in some capacity? Either someone battling for a first-team place, or someone to replace the academy hopeful.

It's not like the Tomlin deal was the first ever deal in football to go south after a successful loan. Tomlin is now on his fourth club in four years, and is jumping while in his prime. That doesn't scream stability to me.

While you're last point is true, I'd take a step back and ask why we signed him in the first place if he was known to be this difficult? Assuming LJ is telling the truth, we were obviously keen on him last season, so it makes me wonder why we decided to sign a player that was being too awkward to see this move as a long-term thing. The club prides itself on its vision, and its long-term goals; it's what every single player that joins the club is told to say.

Of course, airing your dirty laundry in public is not the best way to go, regardless of whether Tomlin was difficult or not.

I work in Bristol therefore i live in Bristol. If i got work in Timbucktoo then id move to within easy commuting distance simples!. Otherwise id appreciate my employer asking questions about my availability or reliability?. Hes gone to Cardiff where its negligible or even more commute each day. If the reason why he went is due to commute issues then we are either being taken as idiots or LJ is spouting frogspawn.

For what its worth. 2.9m in the till cheers. LT ta ta. Cheers.

You make an interesting point about working and living in Bristol, and those following each other.

FWIW Tomlin living in Leicester, like Danny Wilson living in Chesterfield... Nonsense in both instances.

More generally though, commuting? Nothing new. Quite a lot where I work, or a reasonable number live outside Bristol ranging from say the edges of Bristol, to Greater Bristol or even beyond that. Found it a number of places too.

Saw someone mention Gary O'Neill living in London..I think that's not too bad. If he lives in the significantly Westerly part then it'd probably be within a reasonable margin of acceptability IMO.

And as I understand it he doesn`t drive himself, he pays someone to chauffeur him down and back.
