Bryan or Flint?

New poster...

It's pretty obvious ether Joe or Aden will be leaving, if not both. Just wondering what everyone thinks?

Personally, I'd take the cash for Flint. Joe is a Bristol lad. Pretty rare these days.

Posted

Aden coming into his prime so as his contract runs down, his age goes up and value decreases.

I'd take JB as has more potential at this stage of his career and could be worth a bit in the future.

I sound obsessed with making money here but as the game is nowadays it's par for the course!

I'd prefer them both to stay this season tho.

I guess the next few weeks will tell. I've got the feeling Flint wants out (more cash).

At least we have loads of centre backs!

Flint....not bothered either way. Bryan......a quality left sided player would be much harder to replace. I'd be disappointed if he went.

Agree-Flint has been unsettled so now is the time to cash it in...but only for £6mil plus addons..

Just getting used to how to reply etc.

Just buzzing for Saturday tbh. I'm pretty sure Baker is better than flint. Thoughts??

Posted

If one is going I'd rather it was the one who commands the biggest fee.

Both were shit all season according to many. Both are excellent and irreplaceable now they may be moving on.

Personally I feel that after two straight relegation dogfights any rejuvenation of the squad should be seen as an opportunity to refresh and progress.

They both have different attributes dont they. Flint is an aerially superior and physical centre half who also has an attacking threat. Whilst Baker seems the more intelligent and better natural footballer with a couple of years on Flinty. Just my opinnion BTW

Cant really seperate the two as they both seem to have faults luke baker being seen as a volatile and Flint makes a few defensive blunders.

I'd lose Bryan over Flint any time. There are not many central defenders in this division in our price range like him! The lad is a terrific defender, who is dangerous at set pieces.

There are plenty of Joe Bryan's...

I really really think this season could be decent - mid table.

We're just really bottom heavy, I think LJ has sorted out the defence. Just need a right winger?

Very good point. Centre backs like Flint are really rare in the champ. I just want to get the debate going

Defence can't really be any worse than it has been for the last 2 years you'd hope. A pacy winger would be a nice addition and still think we're short a striker with Wilbs gone and Engvall seemingly not in contention.

And the forum gets ever stronger ... Welcome Crossy, and a cracking thread to start - though I've got to wonder whether you're the man in charge of off-loading one of them (are you LJ or Ashton?) and your trying to gauge supporter unrest before hand- clever move!!!

I'd sell Flint if he wants to leave for more cash, but only to a top Champ team or low end Prem team - no way I'd sell to the Brummies or another rival.

Neither, but they are welcome to Johnson.

I ain't his biggest fan by the way.

Lesson 1 above - how to twist a thread in a few words, towards your own unrelated but particular  obsession. Watch and learn.

Alternatives involve mentioning favourite matches, actresses, breweries etc. We're easily distracted.

I'm getting the feeling we'll be fine without flint (if we get 6 mil off Harry?)

We have no back up for left back though? Unless Lloyd Kelly is that good?

Johnson wants to play a specific way and full backs are a part of that, much harder to find a like for like replacement for Joe then Aden really.

Nah, there's loads of people from Bristol

4.5 million for each of them and I would say that is good business by the club. No issues with either player but they are not Championship standard. Bryan has flattered to deceive. There cannot be any fan who would endorse this media view that he is one of the best LBs in the division. I am not sure what games people have seen when they say that. He has shown flashes but at his age he has shown woeful lack of consistency. Sadly he goes missing too often and he lacks consistency with his final ball.

Flint is good in the air but tell me really what else he brings - slow on the turn, positional play questionable. He is not a nasty player and thus I don't think we are hard enough in def.  Time to move players on at their peak when we can £ in. Thanks lads for the service but we need to be ruthless, which TBF I think we are now seeing.

why would we sell them they under contract, therefore, the board should demand excessive fees or they stay

Player power these days. I just think that one of them is likely to leave, so which be he would you let go?

I love Aden Flint, he's been an absolute hero for us, but Joe Bryan is younger, a Bristol boy, and could develop into something really special.  I'd miss Aden Flint, but I'd be absolutely gutted to see Joe Bryan fulfilling his promise elsewhere.

so is the player more important than the club NO !!! they are under contract.

I would argue they are both champ standard, as Ayling proved last season. I just want city to push on and wondering which out of Bryan and flint we could afford to lose.

Could be a tough ask.

Gotta trust Johnson on this.

He's got coaching badges and his eyes can spot a 90% turned head.

Damaged goods.

yes I appreciate that a player who has their head turned is a possible liability but still under contract, he costs over the odds

I've been expecting Flint to go this summer, the Baker signing has convinced me he will be off. Not Brum in my opinion. Bryan is different. I still don't think he is a left back. Play him further forward / through the middle.

Posted

Being as we have more cover at cb would be more comfortable with AF leaving than JB. Would rather flint go somewhere like boro or derby than Birmingham though for a career progression point of view.

If only we'd tried that bit harder on the final day and relegated them 'arry would not have had a hope in hell of landing flinty.

Tots agree Crossy. Good left-backs worth having, IMO. Also he's a good age.

Joe has the ability to improve more and become a far better footballer than Aden can or will.

Accordingly if we are to improve as a team I would say it is more important to keep Joe that Aden.

Posted

Linked in with which player you think we could lose without too much problem, will both play tomorrow do you think?

There is talk of Aden having his head turned, not so much being said about Bryan. With Baker suspended it appears Wright and Flint could be strongest pairing, I can't see him dropping Bryan out - but will Aden be focused enough to play?

One thing I think you can be sure of is that Flinty will put in his normal 100% performance whether his head has been turned or not. If he doesn`t play I think it`s more likely that a deal is imminent and he`s not risking injury.

Posted

Rather loose Hegeler AND Magnússon than Flint ... Is this a controversial opinion?

If we are offered just 2 million, we may as well improve his contract and keep him for a few more years.

But 6m! He gotta go. I just hope it is to a West Brom and not Brum City.

Flint wants to go and we should cash in. JB will want to go if we have another season like last season - and so will I.

Also maybe Pisano can replace Adens goals?

Similar to when other posters write in West Country slang (does I, or, that really do piss i off, for example).
