Villa - Home, Reading - Away, Wolves - Away, Derby - Home, Norwich - Away

Guess this will be a good indication of where we are, Can't honestly see too many points from those 5 though.

Posted

I cant either im afraid,

Villa - Draw

Reading - Loss

Wolves - Loss

Derby - Draw

Norwich - Win

I going for 5 points, with our only victory at Carrow Road. Hope its more. Johnson has got a dilemma on his hands, first 11 draw to Millwall, 9 changes and beat Watford away. Whatever he does isnt going to be right to some people.

They're all big name clubs - but to be honest, only Wolves have started the season particularly well.

The rest are inconsistent and will be no more confident than us.

Posted

It's worrying that Villa seem to have got their act together in the last couple of games, but then I suppose we did last night.

Its going to be tough. But it wouldn't be Bristol City if it weren't.

4 points upwards and we'll have done well. But if we don't it won't stop the Johnson out campaign from having a go ;)

Suspect we'll get something from the two home games but don't hold out much hope for those three away games.

Could you show me an easier set of fixtures in this league ?

Wow!

Beating Norwich - an ex-premier league 'outfit' with big budget and star players.

This would be great to put on the managers CV.

Well done Lee.

We won't mention the (alleged) two defeats and two draws, as these will be against well motivated, clever, and high energy teams.

COYR!!!!!

If we put Derby to the sword that would be all credit to Lee Johnson.

For sure. You look at games like Barnsley, Millwall and Burton at home and think they are a great chance to get 3 points. Our next five have no such fixtures and look much tougher in terms of where our opponents are expected to be come May. I appreciate it doesn't always work out that way though. If we get a similar points return from the next four, as we've got ao far, I will be delighted.

@Taxi for Johnson

...you appear to have 'lost it' slightly m8, popping up everywhere with ever more bizarre posts...

Maybe a little rest would do you good?.. sorta help you regain a little of your lost mojo.

I suggest getting out of your cab and hopping on a bus, get yourself a dayrider ticket £4 and ride around all day hopping on and off of numerous buses spend some time just staring out of the windows & relaxing into a serene dreamtime for a day... spend time with joyriding pensioners people watching and earwigging or just allowing yourself to drift away oblivious of everything for a few hours... when you get home have a nice cup of Ovaltine and an early night... things will hopefully seem clearer in the morning.

See you again soon, when you're feeling better, let go of the steering wheel for a while and let 'cheer's drive' take over you can sit upstairs, downstairs at the front or at the back, enjoy the freedom of just wandering around, and ffs leave your internet connected devices at home...

To be honest ... I think we ALL need the rest.

We should be mid-table 7 points will keep us mid-table, We are looking more together this season at the moment which is good

Less than 4pts = poor

4pts = acceptable.

5pts = not too bad

6pts = pleased

7pts = very pleased

8/9pts = Delighted

9+ pts = Give LJ another contract extension!

Exactly. Based on City's league position over the last two seasons, most teams are going to be difficult opponents. Even three from four of our opening fixtures this season, against average / poor teams, have been difficult

Posted

Really important games. Going to start dictating the kind of season we likely to have come the end of that run. I think if you add the Bolton and Ipswich game to the list that'd take us to the end of September and we would have played a good balance of teams. Then we could start drawing some conclusions about where we are and if we are moving forward.

Irony but 14 isn't which I'm sure is what Davefevs was getting at.

If we want to be mid table we need to be taking 5-7 points from these sides.

I think that table you've got there is probably the perfect barometer for this set of results, this is a proper test of what kind of side we are.

So we are on four points from two matches. Should we revise our thinking?

Are we saving the win at Molineux for the year 2031 so that being the centenary of our last win there, we could even have an open top bus tour to celebrate.

But should the miracle happen and we win there on Tuesday, would it indicate a real move in the right direction?

PS. I forecast we will get 9 points from these five games. Always the pessimist!

Posted

So pleased for the team, management and you guys . If we could get something Tuesday I'd be cock a hoop. Tight budget being off work otherwise I'd be going , same excuse for yesterday. COYR

Posted

The next two are super tough. I don't expect anything Tuesday. Tough team and a night game at a place we don't do well. As long as we aren't embarrassed I'm happy. Capable of a point of course just don't expect it.

Derby looked strong Friday night. That said, we can play with anyone at AG. One point from those two I'd be happy enough. Then on to Norwich who I think are beatable in a Reading type way. Keep them out early and the fans may get restless and try a steal 3 points.

I agree that we'll struggle to get anything at Wolves. Still reckon we'll get a goal though.

I agree with what LJ said a couple of weeks back, when we play we energy we can compete with most teams in this league. I really think we struggle to maintain our energy Sat/Tue, so hopefully this will improve throughout the season. Pisano is a big loss, and won't be available until Saturday at the earliesr (going by what LJ has said.)

I'm impressed with how we dealt with the game on Saturday, one which we probably wouldn't have got anything from last year. It's actually quite nice to see a 1-0 win, a result which the whole team deserve credit for from a defensive standpoint.

Manage those energy levels and we'll be just fine.

So we already acheived 'not too bad' and by beating Derby we'll be in the 'delighted' section with the gaffer dangerously close to a Pardewesque 10 year deal...

1.8 points per game from these.  That's playoff possibly auto form, especially given the opposition.  We're on a great little run but it's very early days yet so no point in getting carried away.

Excellent job LJ, well done City!

Posted

A great return, but it will be slightly soured if we don't get the three points against Bolton, no disaster, but the point today will feel much better for three on Tuesday....

Posted

Right, so a 'pleasing' 9 points gained from the last 5 games, extending our unbeaten run....so now on to the next 5 games:

Bolton (h)

Ipswich (a)

Burton (h)

Leeds (h)

Sunderland (a)

Thoughts on number of points to gain from these 5?

Has to be 3 points Tuesday.

We have don’t brilliantly so far but to be a top 6 side which is where I think we can be this year, you have to find a way to break these sorts of teams down.

That is what the top sides do and now it is our turn - could not be greater motivation - top 6 place by 9:40 Tuesday almost guaranteed with 3 points.

Again you'd be pleased with 9. Would continue the same rate and would see us on 18 from 10. Simple guesswork based on the table might be a win against Bolton and Burton, draws at Ipswich and Sunderland and maybe a loss to Leeds. That's 8.

9 would be excellent.

Bolton - draw (won't be as easy as some think)

Ipswich - draw

Burton - win

Leeeeds - lose

Sunderland - win

8 points I think.

6 or less - poor

7 - passable

9 -good

10-12 - very good

12+ - incredible.

I agree 9 points certainly in our reach. Would prefer 2 wins 3 draws than 3 wins 2 losses. Leeds I can see being the hardest of the lot.

I'd say that's about right. Two home wins and a point away to Sunderland. We'll get nowt at Leeds and Ipswich is an awkward place to go. A draw there to make it 8 would be a terrific performance. I'd be delighted with that.

Tough group of games but it's an unpredictable league and we seem to raise our game against bigger sides.

I predict at least 2 surprise wins in that group.

Turns out my prediction was fairly accurate - well the two surprise wins bit. Would never have guessed we’d go unbeaten though. Expected our mandatory loss against Wolves but thought we might beat Villa.

I`m going 9. W, D, W, D, D

TBF, that next five looks on paper easier than the last set. When the fixtures came out I was dreading September as it looked horrific but we`ve come through it pretty well - assuming we beat Bolton of course and don`t lose at Ipswich.

Need the home wins and a point in one of the away games. I'd be happy with that. The home games massive though as they'll be bottom 6 sides. Have to take max points from games like that if we want to be serious top 10 contenders. Get those 2 wins and we're all very happy if we steal another away win.

Bolton - Win - Think we’ll be too good for them. 2-0

Ipswich - Loss - Think McCarthy will have a plan for us. Not a successful place for us historically. 2-1

Burton - Draw - think it might be a bit like the Millwall game unfortunately. They’ll play for a draw. 1-1

Leeds - Win - Surprising convincing win against Leeds. Another Derby performance 3-0.

Sunderland - Draw - Plucky draw like today. 0-0 or 1-1.

Personally, I see no reason why we can't get 3 on the bounce in the next three.

Bolton and Burton are totally winnable. Ipswich - mate of mine is a fan and says they play 3 in CM with Skuse deep. I see our two matching their two and Bobby pressing Skuse so hard that it makes him ineffective.

That takes us to Leeds. If we're 12 unbeaten at that point, confidence will be so high that anythings possible. Either 1 or 3.

Bizarrely my biggest worry is Sunderland. They can't keep being cack can they? With a month to turn it around I fear running into then at their "upswing".

This gets me to:

Bolton - 3

Ipswich - 3

Burton - 3

Leeds (if I'm right on the prior) - 1 or 3

Sunderland - 0 or 1.

Either 10 min or 13 max. I'd take that.

Think 9's a distinct possibility given our form at the moment. Would be happy with that.

If you offered me 9 I'd snap your hand off. But do you know what, we could just be capable of better.

Were starting to see that on our day we could beat anyone.

With our form at home, I don't fear anybody. Wouldn't be surprised to see us pick up maximum points!

Draw at Ipswich and a loss at Sunderland. They're bound to find some form and I fear it will be bad timing for us in a months time!

7-10 points would be great and it's very much doable.
