Well kind of, but not as much since 2006. I think from 2010 onwards we've seen ourselves as a quarter final team not a contender.

I really thought we could (and perhaps should) have won Euro 2004. Obviously world cups much harder. Since 06 I think we've had a worse crop of players.

The age group from 16-21 is genuinely quite exciting - including Abraham.

Problem is people see the strength of the PL in England, and compare that to the England National Team. Unfortunately, there is no correlation showing that a strong PL should then include a strong National side. All the best talent in the PL are overseas as we all know.

People need to come to terms that England aren't on par with the likes of Spain, Italy etc. But are more on par with teams like Sweden, Russia, and Croatia. Even the likes of Belgium and Uruguay are better than us.

Have only been watching since after their goal. We have laboured to a few chances. Not seen the goal, but from the thread comments, sounds like Rashford had a 'mare.

It looks like I won't be staying up to 23.45,  which is the time the game finishes here.

I find it funny as well in a way. Over hyped yet again and the reality is we're absolute bollocks. £50m for walker and it's only his pace gets him out of trouble, his positioning for a full back is shocking . How the **** Henderson is a international I'll never know. England=bang ******* average . Bring back the mighty reds and the championship . Club before country

Buzzing to listen to the crying pundits if England lose slamming the team. It's like such a huge surprise when we fail to them, not sure why?

I think we're better than Belgium. For all their household names I don't think they're that good. I'd fancy us to beat them but would be a tough game.

I see your point though - I think we're at little better than that though and are in a second tier of European sides occupied by the likes of Belgium.

Some teams like Italy seem to make hard work of qualifying but are a very good tournament side.

Gareth Southgate is so far out of his depth. It's embarrassing

Yep..born loser. Remember him being feeble when we beat Boro back in the day...who'd have tipped him to manage the national side.

Slovakia looking a class above...sadly.

Rashford doesn't scare anyone.  He's a kid.  Vardy's a different prospect.  Centre halves hate playing against him.  Our team is inexperienced and wet. We need a bit of mongrel on the pitch..

Prob bring sterling on first.

Southgate said he wanted the fans to be excited. I haven't been excited about watching England since Euro '96.... 20 years and counting. Watching the national side produce the same sterile crap with different people's hands at the wheel is as tedious a watch as it gets.

Exactly. And he missed the penalty. Southgate out

I think they're more relaxed in their style of play. They know when to put the work in. If any young English player wants to progress his career Italy would be a good destination.

It's good to see two young potential England players go to Germany and Portugal this window. There may be others too.
