brizzlelou Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Story going around that he's now been sacked! Absurd! How can any manager be expected to make a change in 4 games when given nothing to Spend!? Expect Hodgson to come in with his youthful, continental style that Parish was oh so desperate for.

shelts Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Dead man walking along with Bilic although the Hammers have a track record of giving their managers some time . No goals and points isn't great for Palace and the season is still in it's infancy but how long do you give it with all the money that is at stake?
shelts Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Just been sacked and Roy Hodgson confirmed tomorrow . Crazy times

Monkeh Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 poor start to the season, prem clubs are scared to death to go down now because of the huge money involved at the top of the game, Roy will save them no doubt

And Its Smith Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Stupid appointment and that is not just me saying it after the event. Nothing wrong with trying to move to a better style of football and I admire the ambition but if you do it you HAVE to get the appointment correct.
brizzlelou Posted September 11, 2017 Author Posted September 11, 2017 Gus Poyet left his position with shanghai today!
Port Said Red Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Difficult to know what else a Manager can do in these circumstances.

Guest Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 10 years ago we used to laugh at Spain sacking managers in that time frame
And Its Smith Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Welcome back Roy. Will Benteke be taking corners??

Nothing wrong with trying to move to a better style of football and I admire the ambition but if you do it you HAVE to get the appointment correct. I think it was their orange chairman who said when Pardew was in charge (it can't have been Pulis or Allardyce) that they did try to change their footballing philosophy but struggled to adapt so switched back. Some clubs would be wiser to accept their lot at a certain level and play football accordingly. Besides there's nothing shameful about defending well and hitting opponents fast on the break. It is quite different to the Tony Pulis brand of football. Frank de Boer always seemed like a daft decision for Palace.
RedEyez Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Absolute joke - they didn't deserve to lose against Burnley ! If we were say 15 games into the season, they had 15-20 points on the board and they lost their last 4 matches - would he be sacked then?! I would guess not Poor decision I think as he is a good young manager with plenty to offer. You don't see teams sacking players for starting poorly because they need time to adjust to a new league (Diedhou for example) Like @Port Said Red has pointed out - I don't see how you can blame the manager for losing a game where statistically you were dominant but the players haven't done what they're paid to do in order to win the match. It's bonkers!

Midlands Robin Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Against Burnley there was one massive defensive cock up after 3 minutes and for the next 87 minutes they fluff their lines in front of goal over and over again. That's hardly De Boer's fault. The best thing he can do now is join a new club and go on to have a successful career elsewhere.
One BCFC Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Disgusting that from Palace. Hope they go down now. 4 games, ffs!!

pillred Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 no wins in four, no goals in four, = dunfour.
Robbored Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Just heard a Palace fan on TalkSport saying it was the right decision because they simply cannot afford to lose PL status and with no points and no goals the writing was on the wall. Shortly after another Palace fan said it too early early to sack the manager and that the players had let him down. Danny Murphy said that almost certainly the senior players would have been approached by the chairman for their view and maybe that was a big factor in the decision............
Davefevs Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Difficult one this one. Not the decision itself, but who to blame! - De Boer for thinking he could play the Ajax way with the players at his disposal and one window, whilst realising the risk of not being able to change them overnight or - Parish for appointing a manager and falling for the "I can make Palace like Ajax" spiel. I wonder if De Boer will go to Ajax in a Jif(fy)!!!!!!
Nibor Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Can't really see why you'd appoint someone with the brief of wholesale changing the way the club is run from top to bottom including the playing style and then only give them four games. It's utterly insane and an admission that the board were not honest with themselves about what they wanted and the risks involved - that's incompetence on their part. I hope they get relegated anyway, never like them.
Lrrr Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Get the feeling he tried doing too much over the course of one summer/window, still stupidly early however the first team to lose all 4 games without scoring since what, the 30's? Think Southampton go about manager appointments the best way, they have their philosophy and style of play and then look to appoint a manager who shares their outlook.
1bristolcity Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Typical modern football mentality, four games in and they panic, if this bad run was mid season he would survive. Palace were dominant against Burnley, and unlucky....what am I talking about?... dislike them, hope they get relegated!!!

Kingswood Robin Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Lunacy. They're hardly premiership bigshots are they? Any team outside the top 4/5 can expect to lose 4 on the trot in that division at some point. Going by what I saw yesterday, some of the players need to leave, not the manager.
chowie Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Where is Steve Coppell Shortest-serving full-time managers in English football Name Games in charge Time in charge Frank de Boer (Crystal Palace) 4 (2017) 77 days Les Reed (Charlton) 7 (2006) 40 days Bob Bradley (Swansea) 11 (2016) 84 days Chris Hutchings (Bradford) 12 (2000) 141 days Paolo di Canio (Sunderland) 12 (2013) 175 days http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/41219627
MarcusX Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 They battered Burnley by all accounts and watching the highlights they missed numerous sitters. You also cant allow for players making hopeless mistakes leading to goals That said, he didnt have the players at his disposal to make such a big overhaul to their playing style - thats either completely niaive or he was under the impression he had the time to work with it. To go and sack him and appoint Hodgson just makes Parish's comments silly. Palace for the drop IMO

Get the cheque book out since he's already here in the UK and offer to make him in charge of the whole academy setup from top to bottom, with new training facilities hopefully being announced sometime soon, and a push to cat 1 status. - soak up all the local talent and try to make BCFC a team with a number of local talent where people know they can come and have a good chance of first team football, good coaching even if it means using us as a stepping stone to better things.
Flaxbourton Red Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 de Boer was hopelessly out if his depth in the premier league - also out of his depth in seria A. I can't say I'm surprised he got his marching orders - no points or goals after his first four games on the trot?

Sweeneys Penalties Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 what I think of Palace or De Boer is largely irrelevant. Steve Parrish wanted to play "the Ajax way",,, so appointed Frank de Boer. It beggars belief that Frank de Boer looked at the Palace squad and thought "yeah I can do that" without the necessary quality of player available at Palace. Bad calls from the pair of 'em, but I trust Frank has got a decent pay off. If Palace want to appoint me next... I'll do just an effective job of screwing it up
