A bit accurate for four days in advance isn't it?

43mph winds???

Not 40 or 45???

Calming down a bit for the second half???

Four days ahead!!!

:dunno:

Couldn't agree more - just a heads up, just in case.

They might get it right for once.

Or if they've got it wrong it could be worse than they're forecasting.

Interesting to see how it changes over the next few days.

Exactly.

What if we have the same 4th official on the injury time board as the Burton game!

BBC Weather (especially the app) has gone to absolute **** in last few years.  Honestly as wrong as that guy who sell his BS to the Daily Express every winter.

Heavens, that reminds me of the day ray cashley scored from a goal kick or drop kick in the fog at the gate many years ago.

I remember complaining that we were charged full price to watch the game when we could only see half of the pitch.

The Beeb in its wisdom ditched the contract with the Met Office and now get info supplied by a cheaper, inferior outfit.

The memorable fog was against Leeds, Cashley's goal in to the open end v. Hull was fully visible from my vantage point in the EE.

They still are with the Met Office. The new deal has been beset by various delays.

Their in-house forecasters are no longer trained meteorologists however.

Don't worry, there isn't.

Always feel old Fishy is unfairly traduced by that clip they show. The bit where he says "but there will be some very strong winds over the southern counties, so batten down the hatches" is always edited out.

And he was right. 1987 wasn't a hurricane. In temperate climes, you cannot have a hurricane by definition.

I saw him once in Norwich railway station. He had a tall, leggy blonde on his arm.

Didn't get everything wrong obviously...

I couldn't afford the EE, had to watch from under the Hospital Broadcast Box in the Open End. First we knew about a goal was the cheer.

Come on NTB,you know that the only way to tell what the weather is  like,is to look out of your front room window on the actual day.

I remember that game against wolves not long ago when Sky were in town, Dele Adebola brushed passed two Wolves defenders and fought off a 60+ mph headwind (well it seemed as if it was very windy at least) to burry the ball in the bottom corner.

More of of the same this weekend with our new Dele, Fammy.

The funniest thing about that night was wondering whether the Sky TV studio was going to make it through the match - it must have been bloody scary up there!

The EE roof looked a bit wobbly as well!

Would've been brilliant going to Don Goodman at HT and he’s  just stood in front of fallen scaffolding

2 days on they are saying the stormy weather will be worse and more prolonged than previously thought with 45-49mph winds from 10 am until well after the match.

However sceptical many of us may be about weather forecasting probably wise to bring your windcheater.

With his kicking the way it is,  it'll end up in his own goal.

It was gale force type weather v Huddersfield last season and we spanked them 4-0. Set pieces should be interesting.

On the bright side BBC weather predicts low UV, so no chance of sunburn!

The result could be one helluva lottery because of the weather.

Whichever side gets lucky, with gusts of wind to assist or driving rain in the faces of defenders, will be grateful. If it's us then OK but if not then let's hope we end up with what we start with; one point.

When a match is played in horrible conditions it is a leveler skill wise and those with the biggest hearts tend to win .

I would favour us as the close knit home side, on a good run and being backed by twenty odd thousand vocal City supporters.

Let the hostilities commence ( well on Saturday anyway )

Just been looking at the forcasts and it doesn't look good at all for around 3 o'clock Saturday. People have said things like the weather experts don't know etc etc .. but i'm afraid they do and are VERY accurate these days.

Well, we had Nigel come and bugger up the last home game.. now we welcome storm Brian   how ironic.

Something playing tricks with your memory, as the Cashley goal versus Hull was scored at the Open End! The postponed game versus Leeds was 0-0 when call off at halftime!

I was driving for City Line on that night on the 24/25 route Lockleaze to Whitchurch and a 6 foot high fence panel blew across the road in Lockleaze and just missed the front of the bus, scary!  The next day on the same route most of Lockleaze houses had roof tiles off and loads were broken over the roads.  Never seen anything like that since the Great Storm.  The storm that is due has been named Brian by the Irish and they will get the first impact again, the luck of the Irish eh.

As long as Brian doesn't ruin the game on Saturday I won't mind.

Hopefully it'll encourage players to keep it on the grass.

Forecasts are looking seriously bad for Saturday! Thinking that this could be postponed due to dangerous conditions around the stadium. Seem to remember games being called off before for this reason. Hope call is made early if this is the case.

listening to the bbc this morning (yes I know) they said very heavy rain Friday night and all day sat with winds of up to 50 mph, with all this h&S nonsense is there a chance it could even be called off?

I've just emailed the club.asking about the risk, due to the storm,as yet they've not answered,

AG can cope with a bit of wind, its been built to withstand anything the British weather can throw at it.  The same can surely not be said of the tents and carports on the other side of town, which I am fully expecting to be ripped apart by a gale.

It was actually Bill Giles forecast. Fishy only presented it and got all the flak.  Made him famous though, so he's not complaining :)

I know what you mean, but a hurricane is defined as sustained wind speeds above 85 mph, so to all intents it was a hurricane.

Do you think we have never played in a gale before?

Tell me how many games have EVER been called off due to high winds!

Sure you're right. But we've never had a SAG in charge before.

Think Leeds at home is weather cursed. Was at the foggy match too.

February 2014 Man City and Everton both called off games due to high winds

Games are called off far more easily these days for weather conditions, i.e.ice/snow than they were in the past. Not because of the pitch or even necessarily anything to do with the stadium but with the public's safety making their way to the ground in mind.

If it was felt the winds were likely to be strong enough and sustained enough to cause real damage, i.e. for the trees in the park to be in danger of coming down or for tiles on houses on Ashton Road to be ripped off and blown into a street with hundreds of fans on their way to or from the game, it's quite possible they'd err on the side of caution.

As for tomorrow's forecasted gale causing a postponement, very unlikely, but the way things are these days nothing can be entirely ruled out imo.

We are talking about GUSTS of 50mph winds NOT 100mph, blowing about 30mph as a norm tomorrow

We get these conditions regulalry in the winter season in the UK

This thread is getting as bad as the one's where people are convinced the pitch will be waterlogged as heavy rain is forecase

I know what you mean, but a hurricane is defined as sustained wind speeds above 85 mph, so to all intents it was a hurricane.

Actually, a Hurricane starts at its weakest category as a Category 1 hurricane when sustained winds reach 74mph. These sustained winds have to be in excess of these speeds for 60 seconds to count according to Miami's NHC and has to form in the tropical Atlantic.

The scale they use is called the "Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale" (SSHWS)

  • Cat 1: 74-95mph
  • Cat 2: 96-110mph
  • Cat 3: 111-129mph
  • Cat 4: 130-156mph
  • Cat 5: 157+mph.

However in regards to the storm of 1987. It wasnt a hurricane. It wasnt formed in the tropical Atlantic and it was infact what Meteorologists would now call "A Weather Bomb" where the air pressure dropped more than 24mb in 24hrs. Infact, this storm they're calling Storm Brian, is also a "Weather Bomb" and any storm has the potential to give off hurricane force winds without it such actually being called a hurricane. The word "Hurricane" is just a terminology for storms that form in the warm tropical waters near the Equator.

I said, 'if it was felt..' that's NOT my thinking - but it would be the PC health and safety brigade jobsworths evaluating the situation, and making the decision!

You're right that we've always seen such wind strengths in the Autumn/Winter, but 40 - 50 mph winds sustained over a 10 hour period is what is unusual.
