Positives from tonight

I'm certainly not going to start blowing my lid about this result tonight. The team are knackered, we need reinforcements, a lot of those players badly need a rest. No overreactions necessary, it's a poor result in an otherwise brilliant season so far.

Our team needs a rest. Today was always going to happen.

Yes they do. The problem is LJ has no confidence in Elliason or Woodrow. Or he wouldn't resort to flint up front. We got hammered and had no idea how to stop them breaking. Two of their goals came from OUR corner.

Rest them all. Play a u23 team with Elliason Kelly Vyner in it even the bloody waste of space Engval.

In a sense this defeat might prove to be an important marker in our season. It signals the end of an exhilarating period in our recent history and a chance to take stock, learn and move on. I don’t sense any complacency in this team but if there was even a hint of it, it’s gone now. And if there was any doubt that we need new recruits, this settles the issue.

Plus best of all - none of our closest rivals won today. If we’d claimed a credible draw and Derby and Cardiff had both won, we’d be worse off.

We got so much more out of Reid when Diedhiou was playing. When we get him back it will be like a new signing.

Today was horrible to watch but fingers crossed that was just a little blip. Two very hard games in the space of 48 hours was always going to be difficult.

Like others have said the kids need a shot at Watford as we're in dire need of a rest.

Great season so far though and still safely inside the top 6. Onwards and upwards.

It's  good to see no knee jerk reactions- so far anyway.

Two very tough matches in 48hrs stretched the squad to far imo. LJ didn't have enough quality to rotate the squad and weariness  must have taken a toll.

There's a few in the match update thread. Totally bonkers.

It is what it is, another defeat at the end of one hell of a run! Thankfully -  Cardiff lost again (their FOURTH in a row - perspective!) and both Leeds and Sheffield Utd only gained 1 point on us over these two defeats. We're still in a fantastic position, deep breaths all around and enjoy the 12 days until our next league game!

Let Villa fans think they are a better team and have their 5 minutes of gloating over us but I know we will come back from this defeat and finish higher than them and even take that second auto place

We lost 41 nil at West  Brom and conceded 6 against Ipswich 10 years ago and still finished 3rd. Players need a rest. No one will moan losing handily Saturday or next Tuesday. After all the hard work the league is our priority and djuric and diedeous return might be just at the right time

41-nil?????

Must've blanked that one out my mind!

Teams like Villa and Wolves can bring on Multi Million pound players we can only bring on players like Matty taylor who is league 1 quality at best. We need to strenghten the squad with 4 or 5 players that are championship quality if we want to stay in the play offs

We'd already lost by then. But it's a fair point to make over a season.

A friend of 20 years is a Villa fan. Not one iota of gloating from him tonight and I didn't pass any the other way we we beat them last season.

Gloating between friends is shite.

Yes but at the moment we cant rest players and freshen things up Leko Elliason Woodrow and Taylor just arent good enough to start lets hope that this was a wake up call and Steve gets his wallet out if he seriously wants premiership football

Just hope we can weather the next couple of games. We need to rest players so a weakened team against Watford is a must, we then have Man City both these games will likely be losses, just hope it's by small margins. Winning is a habit, but so is losing, and I really don't want to see all the hard work and effort the guys have put in start to unravel. Rest up, re-evaluate and push on COYR

To me, cider comes in either a 2.5l or 5l container anyway.

Is this clear stuff what the young 'uns drink these days?

Trouble is, we play kids against Watford and get another thrashing then what's the next match, Man City away! LJ may want to put a stronger team out than he was planning on Saturday just to stop the rot.

So right. I learnt a lot about someone tonight. One quip would have been ok ( albeit painful) but the triumphalism by text after every goal from a Sofa fan who hasn't been to Villa in a decade was crass.

Exactly. Especially from those that never go. (although it's one for the memory Bank if we beat them in the playoffs).

For me its like telling everyone you're going out with a film star because you watch all their films.

Never going to games is not being a fan*

*I specifically mean those that have never gone and never will.

One walloping doesn't make a team a bad team. Conversely getting last minute winners doesn't make us a wonder team.

I have seen eight promotions in my time supporting City and without consulting the record books, it was rare for any of them to escape at least one poor result, en route to automatic promotion.

It's a setback, but not the end of the world. How we recover against Norwich will give us a better view of where we are going this season.

Injuries and tiredness were always going to be a problem with the number of games, despite that, the lads have done us proud, love Bobby to bits but he is not and never has been strong enough to be isolated up front, Leko and Woodrow are not worth any wage, not good enough as starters or subs! Taylor shows promise, but he has not improved on his div1 performance. Engval has suffered a recent dip in form but we need a front player at least until our injured forwards are match fit

SL has said no spending spree, so send the wasters back, sell the also rans and pursue loans that are good enough to start and ease some of the pressure on the first team regulars!

And what about our u23’s and loaned out players? Surely we have a few that can be given a chance! Cotts stupidly had little faith in them, time for our progressive management to show some faith and ease some pressure!

Huddersfield were hammered by fellow play-off contenders Fulham, at Fulham, 5:0 last October. And Fulham beat them 4:1 in the return. They were also well beaten by us, here, and we were not headed for the top 6. They finished the season with a -2 GD, losing 15 times (but only drawing 6. I believe LJ is going out to avoid drawing too many games).

Huddersfield played three play-off matches, incidentally, including one hour of extra time, scored one goal, didn't win (or lose) one of them and now sit 11th in the PL.

All that matters now, is how we respond to today, and Wolves, and this might include how we go about this transfer window.

One positive from tonight

I have been contacted by a fair few of my Gas mates

Have not heard from them in months!!!!!!!!

Are they pleased with beating a team who were bankrupt and penniless a couple of years ago while our exhausted depleted squad tackle a team with parachute payments?

BTW - why do you have a "fair few" gas mates. You not learning from your mistakes?

Tonight we didn’t score when on top in the first 20 minutes and then didn’t take our chances early in the second. Had we have just scored one at those times it could have beeen so different. We rest up and move on. We are still only two points off automatic promotion. If someone had said at the beginning of the season that’s where we’d be at new year we’d have probably laughed. Norwich beware!

He failed tackle the goalscorer for one of their goals

So that means he played shit then? We were all over the shop on that goal and 1 v 1 with a player of Snodgrass’s quality will sometimes lead to a goal. To me he looked composed and the one plus of the night. 45 minutes of learning, those that want our U23’s bunged in the team have to accept these lads will learn on the job and make mistakes. Can’t have it both ways.
