Did the Willem lot contain a 'risk' element within perhaps? Worry about a pyro being let off maybe as is more common in European football another possibility? Kid in the Riot
1 hour ago, GrahamC said: Any ideas what that was all about? At least 3 riot vans parked up outside and absolutely loads of them in full riot gear hanging around by the Dolman after the game. Sheffield Wednesday have no reputation for trouble at all and most people who were at the game were far more interested in keeping warm. Operation Overtime strikes again? Sheffield Wed most definitely do have a rep for trouble. Owls Crime Squad. 2003 they brought an impressive mob down to AG and later that season in 2004 City took an even more impressive and much bigger mob to Hillsborough. Having witnessed some of it first hand that day they were on their toes. Little bit of trouble today apparently after.

Northern Red
Remember there being a fair bit of bother outside after the game at their place in 2004, the one where we had 5k or so there and lost to virtually the last kick of the game. SYP were absolute knobs that day too.
JulieH
It is correct that there was a march planned in Bristol for today involving some members of perceived right wing groups. There was also information that a counter protest was organised by left wing group members also. The march was cancelled yesterday afternoon and although it was unlikely anyone would continue to travel we could not be certain this was the case so some police officers already warned to work remained in the Bristol area . other officers resourced to work it were dropped back to core response policing. the football game was policed as a b grade which is not as many police as Cardiff Leeds or millwall. No officers travelled from south torkshire police due to weather conditions yesterday 4 Dutch police officers assisted us with policing of the Dutch fans , none of whom presented any policing issues as a result 1 male arrrsted from Sheffield Wednesday following a disturbance in the crowd during the first half . He is currently still in custody with us .
Red Tel
Police presence was all to do with the size of todays attendance. There were 22000 of us there today, which of course included the 7000 invisible men, woman and children that we could see right through to view their red seats!! BRISTOL86
Apparently some Wednesday fans were singing in Ashton Road, but luckily there were some fans on hand to dish out some swift justice so the police didn’t have to step in to curtail the singing. AppyDAZE
Totally depends on what this "swift justice" is. I imagine our lovable BCFC protection boys told the Wednesday noisey lot to jolly well shut up or I shall have to call a policeman (or woman, Julie)

Correct, SW have been on the radar for BCFC for a few years now. 2004 was a big away day when we did take a load after they gave it the “big un” against some young un’s at AG. 5000 odd went and there was plenty of afters at Hillsborough. This fixture will come again - mark my words. Infact you have SU end of season and there is plenty of history there also! Best get used to OB presence.
