Make or break today for LJ

Just to clarify I’m a big fan of his (and the Johnson family) but we have to be realistic about our ambitions and who can deliver the goods.

And a manager who has overseen a season that has exceeded expectations - and could still achieve a play off place - might well be the person to do it. Look at the trajectory of this club over the last five years and see if you can spot a trend.

On the wind up are you?..........:dunno:

Some posters think that's my job................:rofl2br:

One thing that gets me with these threads is alternative names are rarely offered.

Who guarantees a better return than LJ with our budget?

Rowett was flavour of the month this time last year - now scarcely doing better at a significantly bigger club.

Warnock is an obvious candidate but splits fan opinion and clearly isn’t leaving Cardiff.

Who exactly is guaranteed to do better and is definitely worth breaking up the valuable continuity and knowledge of the squad that LJ has and can continue to build on?

A season that has exceeded expectations... yes.

Could still achieve a play off place... yes.

Trajectory... yes.

Do I think LJ should get the bullet... no.

but Should we be satisfied by our league position? No. Not at all. The last three months have been nothing short of abhorrent and we shouldn’t let out judgement be clouded by the fact that we had a brilliant start. I’m not surprised that a little unrest is creeping in.

To be satisfied with this is a little bit like a homeless man winning 1m on the lottery, spending 990k in a week and still being happy that he’s rich cos he’s got 10k left. It isn’t something to crow about.

LJ is still in credit, but a repeat of Monday and more patience will be running thin. We can’t ignore how dire we’ve been for such a long time.

I don’t disagree with any of that Fordy. The broad picture is still positive but the recent history is undoubtedly a concern. But for now at least I think the former trumps the latter.

Just to answer your Q, the manager I like is Monk.  Nit that I want LJ gone though.  He would be a realistic choice for us.

It’s that type of attitude that has kept us where we are for years. Pathetic.

No. It's your type of attitude that has stopped us from getting any consistency or progress for years and years. Instant fix, instant gratification? It doesn't work.

Fair enough - but certainly no guarantees, and I don’t think the case for Monk is strong enough to justify dispensing with LJ.

Monk is the new Mark Hughes, I wouldn’t touch him with a barge pole, if we were to take on a new Manager it has to be somebody with success at getting teams promoted from the Championship or with good success elsewhere I.e. the Wolves Manager, otherwise what’s the point?

If or when LJ leaves City, I believe we should go European for our Head Coach.

For very simple reasons. Coaches in Western Europe are well used to the idea of a head coach and that they are responsible for the first team only. A football director is responsible for recruitment and playing style, and which hardly changes from year to year : players and other coaches at all levels are recruited to fit this pattern which evolves much more seamlessly than the way it's done in UK.

Thus we don't have to go through a massive change because the first team coach is changed.

Absolutely not.  Would be no guarantees with Pep!  Not at City!!

by your reckoning there would be 21 sackings at the end of every season!!

If it was any other club this would happen, but with SL going to every newspaper when we were doing well to do an interview that said "Sticking with LJ was the right thing to do, see I was right" it is clear that SL is a very proud man. And sacking LJ would be like admitting he was wrong, which he won't do. So no, even if we were destroyed 10-0 today, he won't go, for better or worse.

Guest Ian Crabbe

Is this LJs team? Or has he bowed to most of us who seem not to want Kent,Diony and a couple of others

anywhere the squad,as this seemed to be the general consensus amongst the majority of supporters I don’t

think we can have too many complaints whatever the result.

From mr glass half full man.

To be fair, ive never heard of another manager in a club in our position confirmibg he doesnt want the season to fizzle out. What the hell??? Shouldnt he be a bit more positive and aggressive at this point? We are going for it etc etc??? Its like hes given up with 6 games to go?!

There was me thinking you were a Johnson. Obviously not.

I think this counts as this week’s “must win” thread.

Five more to go.

Currently with the score as it is we're 4 points behind the play offs and we've only managed 14 points so far this year.... if you genuinely think we're going to be in the play-offs I applaud your faith but also can't help but laugh at it too.

We're not making the play-offs, a win today would have been enough to give us a shot, a loss today and we're done.

Does everyone remember before xmas when Lee was being touted as the next big thing.....?

The longer this goes on the more I just think it was a good run/purple patch, nothing more nothing less and we are now back to LJ football.

Clearly a wind up thread, always good for a bit of fun and controversy - but best saved for a boring lull on OTIB, not during a pivotal match!

Errr, I think consider the result this thread is VERY TIMELY

Where did I miss the part that we have slipped into the relegation places?

Ok, so we're not going to get to the play offs, big deal!  The Championship is fine, what's the rush?

Are you serious?

Bazooka Joe, its crazy, isn't it, I am sure it is not true, but it's almost as if the only fans with ambition for our club, being a big city and all, who want us to progress, to one day reach the premiership, are unhappy with LJ's management? Whilst those happy with mediocrity want him to stay.

Oh hang on, I've answered my own question.

Yep, I can't stand the money-eating monster of the Premier League.  I'm in no rush to get there.  Of course, I'll support City if they get there with heart and passion, much the same as I would in any league.

I agree with your sentiment, but as a club it can’t be very reassuring knowing you management team allow these huge slumps in form.

itll bite us in the bum soon

I also detest the gentrificaion of football, the money-grabbing Premier League, and the greed of players. agents and all the other hangers-on.

However, I assume we, like every other club, are all chasing the same prize, so the sooner we get there the better.

I can think of numerous people (including some former OTIB posters), who died before their dream of seeing City getting to the Prem was realised.

It pains me to think of all the time and hard-earned cash they spent following City through thick and thin, and the frustration they endured over the years, hoping to see City in the Prem.

So if you're not in any rush to get to the Prem, how long are you willing to wait?

His dad? Blimey I'd sooner keep LJ if that was the only option. There is a reason why GJ has never done any better than us and is now in League 2

So you'll not be too bothered by the slump which has meant we won't be getting there
