Certainly seems impressed with himself.

Probably nothing in it, more than likely referring to a song as so many players for whatever reason like to do. JET is the worst for it, interesting to see where his career is heading.

He just blocked me on Instagram cos I commented stating that he is probably the laziest £10m player ever. I stand by my point. He joins the group of players who want the lifestyle and the prestige with none of the effort. Bye!

I just saw his instagram and I notice a few of the senior players have unfollowed him. Reading between the lines, I don’t think he was very popular here.

I guess he was a user of Instagram or similar before he arrived here, so a couple of minutes trawling through by someone at the club might have saved us a whole lot of money and time.

Isn't that the international symbol for "Loser"?

Hmmm....I'm not sure that should be a significant part of our recruitment process.  Oh, Lee Tomlin, yes you're right, we definitely need to look at Instagram more closely.....

You could just leave him alone. Just a thought.

Ah, Mr Ashton I presume.

If checks were not undertaken on all social media accounts for someone earning a fraction of a footballers wages I’d go ape-shit. Basic element of any competent recruitment process nowadays.

Lummydaze, if our much-trumpeted DNA checking depends on character references from the player’s dog or looking at the bloke’s scrap book no wonder we’re so bad at recruitment.

Didn't this guy announce his arrival via social media a day before the Club? If our recruiters were unaware of the existence social-media before that, someone, somewhere at the Club may have undertaken a little bit of an investigation. Such action might have deterred us committing to, what I assume, may be recorded as the worst-ever loan in the Club’s history.

Why wouldn't you? We supposedly met Tammy's parents ffs, checking social media is the first thing anyone in their right mind does when hiring someone.

I've been called some unpleasant names in my time but that is pretty vicious!

Unless he's "tidied up" his Instagram, there's nothing in the posts before he joined us that would have made me think he had a bad attitude. It looks like almost any other footballer's feed. Too many pictures of himself for my liking but that is the modern thing for young people! :ill:

Interestingly, there are no video clips of him scoring a goal....maybe that should have been cause for concern.

Perhaps, though I'd beg to differ that it looks much like any other footballers, certainly not our players feeds. With no great analysis, it seems to me that anecdotally our players Instagram feeds are, and always have been, pictures of them playing football and pictures of partners/family. Wholesome stuff.

As you say, Diony's is more pictures of himself and going out with mates. A bit of a clue. I also imagine if City had been following it earlier, his instagram stories even while in France would have been as they have been in Bristol - sitting in bars with friends or driving cars with friends and other socialising.

Hottest of hot takes - he has a big ego and likes socialising. The bloke said something when he arrived about learning English from his girlfriend. You try and find his girlfriend on his Instagram feed. She doesn't exist. Hindsight is wonderful, but these were all clues. He doesn't look the settled down type.

Agree - players social media paints a picture

As a positive example Smith and Pisano is , as you say either football or moreso interacting with their wives / children

Without going over old ground, I think our scouts thought they had secured the low-risk loan of a rough diamond who was down on his luck.  By coincidence, the €10M that Saint-Étienne paid for Diony was very close to the £9M that Burnley paid for another previous 'bad boy' target Andre Gray.  Burnley took a punt and it worked out pretty well.  I guess we hoped that we could get something similar in Diony.

For all the hand-wringing and criticism of the club, Mark Ashton et al had the sense to take the Diony on loan.  Saint-Étienne supporters must be pretty pis*ed that they are getting their star striker back after a loan when he scored precisely no goals.

His Instagram isn't great but it's definitely not dreadful.  If I followed any of the Premiership's top players, I daresay some of them don't have entirely wholesome feeds.

Tammy crashed a car, Ayling poured urine on people, JET was doing all sorts of extra-curricular stuff.  If you're old enough, Bradley Orr went to prison for assaulting someone.  We were (mostly) okay with all of that because they were doing the business on the pitch.  Players are rarely angels and in all honesty it would be pretty boring if everyone followed Adriano Basso's evangelism.

Maybe it's a contractual thing at City for our players to post sanitary photos/tweets within certain agreed parameters.  Or we might have soft players - that idea has been floating around on another recent thread!

I think the problem is we keep on signing these ‘rough diamonds’ in the hope our highly respected manager with a track record of developing players does his business.

Reasonably, a number of people are now questioning though whether LJ has the ability and time both to transform ‘rough diamonds’ into ‘shining jewels’ and manage a first team to become a consistent, winning outfit.

An increasing number, maybe, are thinking if acquiring ‘rough diamonds’ and developing Academy products is our strategy, better LJ concentrates on that side of affairs - if that is indeed his skill set (I’m yet to be totally convinced based on his track record with us)  - and someone else comes in to manage the first team. Maybe getting someone so young and inexperienced to do the two roles is just too big an ask.

IF I was a pro footballer I don’t think I could deal with having social media accounts, I’d be replying to all sorts.

For example, someone having a pop at Joe Bryan off to Barbados AFTER the season has finished! I mean how dare he :disapointed2se:

Marlon Pack and Aden Flint posting pictures after a defeat and then getting pelters for doing so, how dare they do that, not like they are human and have their own lives is it. Some more outspoken professionals don’t help themselves and do it for the banter but the abuse some of them get is ott.

Barry Bannan responds to everything on twitter. Quite refreshing actually. Makes one or two boring little scrotes look like right morons.

Are you surprised by that? Bit of a dick move on your part.

I wouldn’t describe his performances as lazy, he put the effort in but just wasn’t any good.

Crappest player I’ve seen a City shirt in a long time. Actually any football shirt

Bit harsh.

He definitely has the skill, but like Kent can go auto pilot during the game and forgets whats been asked of him.

aye agree with a lot of posters here, there can be no room for passengers during a promotion push or really at any point of the season, both these players would destroy League 1 and weirdly have done better in a prem team than in the Championship.

Kent has moments of magic you can see why he's rated and same with Diony, playing with such Quality in the Prem some might of rubbed off on them and their tricks might have come off, but not in this league, it's arguably more competitive and physical than the prem these days, the fight here in the Champ is real.
