What's that technology we use?...

Someone posted something recently about a piece of technology LJ is using where they can review match situations where a players options at the time can then be reviewed.

The idea being it captures players positions during the game which can then be reviewed from a players eye view and used as a training tool.

Ring any bells? Any help much appreciated. Cheers.

Too ****ing much.

Stop the froth. The computer graphics, grass measuring devices, player apps and hyper-analysis and get back to friggin basics.

LJ. Using your charisma and leadership qualities, just motivate and keep it friggin simple FFS. Is that to much to ask?

The players have lost all their natural flair and expression. They play as individuals worried about their personal ‘stats’, rather than playing for the team. They play in straight-jackets petrified to make a move/pass that isn’t prescribed in the computer generated manual of have to counter the opponents of the day.

We’ve gone completely over-board with the technology - it’s been like a kid in a sweet shop.

It’s a simple game, just tell them about triangles and off-the-ball movement. Let them get on with it and give the players the responsibility to impose themselves and win their own personal battles on the pitch.

Have to agree with most of that Moor2Sea.

Have to wonder how much of their minds are taken up with this when making on pitch decisions. As you say, it's a simple game.

i think LJ is a devotee to the sports science side and the fine margins. A lot of that was pioneered by the work of Dave Brailsford with Team GB cycling. The idea of getting an extra 1% out of 10 small areas = 10% improvement all round. (His work is an interesting read when it's a rainy weekend. Oh look...)

Interesting debate though - whilst scienctific progress is no doubt useful (the medical and nutrition side for example), none of the great teams of the past would have had it.

My question to get the name ChyronHego was a work based one - similar realm with potentially some cross over.

We had the two analysts as speakers at Senior Reds last season and they talked in depth about cryonhego. It’s an amazing piece of kit but no mention of it’s ability to see the play from the players POV.

For that some kind of head camera would be required I guess.

It does pretty much everything elese tho - including a reading from each player’s life status, pulse, respiratory and length of sprints, and distance covered throughout the game. It’s can tell them if a player is flagging that might not be visible to the coaching staff on the touch line but FA regulations dictate that they’re not permitted to pass the info on.....the fourth official is particularly vigilant apparently!

The two analysts were about the best speakers we had last season. Really fascinating stuff.

I think that rule may have changed for this season, pretty sure coaching staff can now have a tablet on the bench to be sent information but they can't be sent stuff like replays of potential offsides for goals etc that can be shoved in the face of the 4th official.

Interestingly enough this is something Hegeler's 'packing' analysis looks at partly. Players can't just pass the ball short and keeps stats up for completed pass % as they haven't beaten anyone so it won't register. Players have to play meaningful passes to get a good score out of the system. Analysis is always a good thing as long as the right things are being looked at and you have players/staff on board who believe in it.
