The flipside of that though is that Stoke and Aston Villa are well above that, Sheffield United are mid-table at best if not lower and yet...Nottingham Forest were but now probably are higher up and are similar to us. Even Leeds though undoubtedly having spent more this year, aren't the most expensive budget or squad yet are top.

Think we're doing okay, mid-table with an outside chance of a playoff push.

I also think we are doing ok but I feel a play-off push may be beyond us.

We live in hope more than expectation :)

That's simply untrue of either season.

The bad football is more subjective, but could probably be argued for this season.

Ignoring the obvious puns, I can't see how the bad runs outweigh the good;

We had a four game winning streak

A four game losing streak

An eight game unbeaten run

One two game losing run

A couple of two game winning runs (maybe a three game winning run depending on the Bolton result up next)

In football you need hope and we certainly have that.  If you follow the gas there is just nothing to look forward too. We have got lots to look forward too    In over 30 years of watching the city I only stopped going when o Driscoll was manager.  Horrid boring football.  I didn’t go s lot on gary Johnson s style but he created a great atmosphere at the gate    I personally like the football we are playing,   Ok some games we don’t play well but who does every week apart from Man City

It’s all about perspective

I think each defeat counts triple with certain people.

Not if he plans for it properly and has anywhere between £6m-£20m coming into the club, of which he’ll have a percentage to play with to improve the squad.

He knows if Lloyd continues his development he won’t be here for much longer, so I’m sure a head-coach like LJ and management team above him, of which you speak so fondly of will have it all sorted.

As per MA on Twentyman, option to but Dasilva at end of loan.  Sorted!!

I know, there's another LJ thread knocking about, but just wanted to add to the praise here for the manager.  The unbeaten run is growing and the substitutions yesterday won the game for us.

Well done, Lee.  Go and pick a team to put Forest to the sword on Saturday.

What you haven't taken into account is that some of the teams "above" us in May 2018 subsequently lost players which had cost fees, and did not spend as much (Reading, Sheffield Wednesday), so their current squad values will have fallen.

I don't think QPR spent any money after May 2018, so their squad cannot be more costly than £26m.

Sunderland were above us in your list but no longer in our division - I doubt any of the promoted clubs have spent more.

Two thirds may be too many, but I'd say definitely more than half.

The essential point is that the "financial limitations" as alleged by RR is factually incorrect when measured against at least half of our competitors.

I have calculated almost £30 million on the basis of only players still with us, and I think the table you have replied to has done the same, albeit the table is at May 2018 and therefore does not include sales by other clubs after that date.

Saw this when looking up our Diedhiou fee.

Interesting to read this from Forest's forum and in particular the last sentence.

Re: Matchday 28: Martin O‘Neill‘s Nottingham Forest vs Bristol City

Fair play to Bristol City. I think we saw what you get when you keep faith with 1 manager even when he`s had good spells and awful ones. The team have been through it with him as well and have seen the bad runs don`t get him the sack.

He'll have it in a year or two with us...

Perhaps even next season.  Unlikely I admit, but at this point it's still quite exciting to acknowledge the possibility exists.
