Haven't seen Massengo yet so not sure on him starting.

I think Jack Hunt will start. Periera had to go off last week and was struggling with the pace first twenty, add to that Bailey being out and I think LJ will want the extra experience.

I think we may go 5-3-2

Bentley

Hunt/ Kalas/ Moore / Baker /Rowe

Nagy/ Brownhill / Palmer

Weimann / Afobe

Subs

Gilmartin

Massengo

Diedhiou

Semenyo

O’Dowda

Periera

Eliasson

As LJ likes to throw up a surprise now and then, and as Brownhill was pretty anonymous against Leeds.

                                Bentley

                  Periera Kalas Baker Rowe

                     Massengo             Hagy

          Eliasson        Palmer         Weimann

                            Afobe

Thought Brownhill was good against Brum. Probably because he had Nagy next to him instead of Pack. He will keep his place in my opinion but I agree with the rest of your team selection

Honestly? God knows, 2 up front would be nice.

Afobe and Weimann up top. Weimann's movement created a lot of space for Afobe at Brum which led to 2 very good chances.

At Thursday’s Senior Reds Q & A  session LJ said he wants to play with two forwards, so Afobe and Weiman looks a good bet.

For me ;

                             Bentley

                 Kalas   Moore   Baker

      Hunt   Nagy   Brownhill   Rowe

                           Palmer

                  Weimann   Afobe

Two up front at home would be nice..

I think there is a strong chance we will continue the 5212 / 3412 we played last week v Brum.

Think Pereira will have recovered from a dead-leg and Hunt came off on Tuesday too (Owers said he thought he may have had a little strain).

I do like the look of 2 up top, one strong one, one nippy, clever one...ideal.  With Palmer behind it has a feel of Football Manager about it.

It does however leave question marks over Eliasson (and possibly O’Dowda - although I think his contract situation isn’t helping).

Of course we could go 4231 / 4411 with Palmer off Afobe and play wide men? But in accommodating Eliasson we lose a striker.

The other option is a narrow 4132, again shades of Football Manager, but retains two strikers, but maybe leaves Eliasson playing narrow?

I think tomorrow will give us an indication of future team style.

I posted about a 41212 in the Massengo thread saying I’d like us to try something like this -

             Bentley

Hunt Kalas Baker Rowe

              Nagy

  Brownhill Massengo

             Palmer

      Wiemann Afobe

Can’t see Johnson starting with it though.

I agree, three at the back seems to be the option given the injury to Dasilva and the lack of cover in that position.

I like the 3-4-1-2 it seems to suit the players we now have, although sidelines some others.

Intriguing and looking forward to tomorrow.

There will be a wildcard of bakinson or someone similar I believe in the mix tomorrow

Interesting.  Is that because you think there are further injuries?

Going by likely options as starters and subs (if Pereira/ Hunt fit):

Bentley | Gilmartin

Hunt | Pereira

Rowe

Kalas | Baker | Moore

Brownhill | Nagy | Massengo

Palmer | Szmodics

Diedhiou | Afobe | Weimann | Semenyo (club developed)

that’s 17 slots out of 18 taken.

Options for the golden ticket?

Walsh - surely ahead of Tyreeq

O’Dowda - between him and Walsh I reckon

Taylor - unlikely to need a 5th striker

Adelakun -

Baldwin - unlikely with 6 defenders already picked

The answer is surely Eliasson...

If we play all 3 centre backs then would of thought Baldwin would be a likely sub.

Dunno. If one had to be subbed, I think we’d go back 4.

Why anyone would pick elliason after watching him mid week is beyond me

against Leeds he created more chances in 20 minutes than the rest of team managed in 70.

Elliason consistently puts great crosses into to the back post which is crying out for a striker to finish them off. He also is by far the best corner taker in the team.

That's due to the fact that it was first game of the season, fitness levels aren't what they will be players were knackered he wasn't. Unfortunately unless he can develope the defensive side of his game or we change our system to incorporate him he will be forever on the bench

I think we'll go with a similar team to that which played Brum last week. But with Moore coming in for Wright, being the one big change. Could possibly see Famara in for Weimann but other than that, just the one change.

                           Bentley

           Moore       Kalas         Baker

Pereira         Nagy       Brownhill        Rowe

                           Palmer

              Weimann         Afobe

Personally I'd like to see...

                     Bentley

Pereira Kalas Baker Rowe

Eliasson Nagy Massengo Brownhill

            Palmer Diedhiou/Afobe

When you're picking a team it shows how many options  you have with players left out...

Just hope we don't use the philosophy we seem to use too much at home which tends to be to stay in the game and keep it tight until the last 20 minutes and then make some changes. Like us to be more on the front foot...coyr

As predicted, Eliasson made his sub’s appearance.

I wish he would limit the stopovers and just cross the ball when he gets an opportunity. He’s the best crosser we have but seems to be on some mad-cap “step-over” fest whenever he’s in possession. Defenders would be far more scared if he just ran fast and direct, looking to cross at the earliest opportunity when in a good position.
